e741bc No.4412

Here's something big that needs to be discussed; housing.

In what will we live?

I found this:
http://www.popup-house.com/

They seem to be good. Cheap, stylish, recycled materials, relatively quick to make, insulated, plenty of space for a family.

I think mobile homes would also work well, but they don't have as much room or look as nice.

The popup house doesn't have pricing yet (that I can find), and here's a video to give you the idea of how much mobile homes cost:
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/used-mobile-homes
I don't know how we'd get them in Namibia. Maybe we could buy then in Windhoek or SA, then drive them up to where we're settling? Or maybe bring them by boat?

Housing is very essential, and we need to set up shelter in order to live anywhere.

Ideas people, we need them.

e68e5d No.4418

I like your popup houses they have a cool idea but again like you said there is no price listed which is a big concern. Personally if it were up to me we would live inside a bunker or a vault like fallout but thats just me

I need to discuss area
Assuming one person per house (because no GF)
A one room house would be enough
there are downsides to my plan such as no space for toilet and it's very basic but it's essentially made for the first couple of years or so to be easily built and managed
I'll expand these plans as we go on
So here is about a 96 square feet home with a bed, lamp and stand and a shelf/cabinet
You could replace the lamp and stand with a toilet but that's just an idea
I'll update this with things like say a next to-the-house bathroom or supply garage

>bunker or a vault

But those are expensive. It costs a fuckton to make a bunker.

We need affordability.

we need to live in a pension, 15-20 person per building, no comfy

Yeah, and we need space for a small family.

We need to reproduce to keep the colony going, you know.

what kind of insulation do these house have?

Alright I see, I can try and do a pent house floor plan by maybe the end of this week, I can get back to you just the basic area and how the floors will work

Tents until we are able to construct more permanent housing

more permanent housing at the start would probably be a small house constructed from scrap metal, on site constructed bricks, or a shedlike structure if we are able to procure wood

We need to build concrete houses/bunkers. Concrete is tough and cheap. It may look like shit, but it will also allow us to defend ourselves if attacked. We should also build underground, it's safe, warm and hidden from prying eyes. It's also only temarary

Don't be a fag, you want a mac too? or a latte machine?

We can live in shipping containers, companies literally give used ones away for free

I'm far more concerned about energy generation

Namibia's coast is one of the least hospitable coasts in Africa. The best place on the coast is at the very southernmost point, and that's a border we don't want to be near.

While making the whole structure metal, using shipping containers as part of buildings is a good idea. Perhaps HDPE plastic blocks could also be utilized, with the metal from the shipping crates giving them weight.
Is important that buildings stay cool on the inside.

rammed earth houses to minimalise costs of material and make cool environment
similar to this
http://earthship.com/

also, I suggest building sand dam
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_dam
could be immensely useful because seawater desalination is ridiculously expensive, energy demanding and need decent infrastructure, well is very expensive
And biogas reactor for cooking gas, possibly even fuel for machines
shit goes in, gas and fertiliser goes out, pretty straight forward
>>4444
big pile of dirt as a wall
colder air goes in from intake hole deep in cold dirt wall (thus cooling)
hot air goes through hole under roof
>>6991
lot of people live in those with no issues, "ridiculously toxic and unsuitable for living" is an overstretch
and if you want to be 100% safe, don't go to fucking African desert

9de60b No.7166

The containers are worth more than the materials for a single dwelling. Plus, you can cram in thousands of tents, dozens of barracks and tools and building materials for hundreds of simple brick houses into a single container. Besides, you wouldn't be able to transport it from the port to the settlement anyway due to a lack of suitable infrastrure and vehicles.
