It should probably be mentioned that the reason Africa looks barren is not the absence of resources, but the fact that so little of Africa has actually been prospected. There's simply no money there for the governments to invest in prospecting while thousands to millions starve and die of aids/malaria across the continent.

This. So much this. We don't need raw resources to export because we have the brains to produce expensive equipment, jewelry, etc. from resources we can easily and cheapl buy from locals.

Exporting raw resources is the shittest thing.
