I'd like an explanation. I get the association with the Crusades, and white is of course an appropriate colour for the field- but why a yellow cross? I get that red and black are out (having already been taken by England and Prussia), but why was yellow the next choice?

I just thought it fitted tbh. Namibia is essentially a huge desert, and lots of sun. The cross shows the English and christian heritage the colony would have then adapted to the environment of Namibia.

The specific shade of orange comes from the flag of the Orange Free State which we should also remember as an example of those who went before us. OFS was internationally recognised as a country and was an important part of colonial history. We should remember the brave spirit of the Boer who founded it.

The orange/yellow is also a very positive colour and shows hope for the future. or some shit like that.
