What's your opinion on Sir John Bagot Glubb's Fate of Empires?

 No.6

Pretty enlightening read. The most interesting part was how all empires seem to fall in the same amount of time.

Except for Soviet Union. They managed to dissolve way early on schedule.

Gommunism was a fucking mistake.

It's bretty gud.

Reading it now. This part stood out to me:

>One of the oft-repeated phenomena of great empires is the influx of foreigners to the capital city.

>Many of the foreign immigrants will probably belong to races originally conquered by and absorbed into the empire. While the empire is enjoying its High Noon of prosperity, all these people are proud and glad to be imperial citizens. But when decline sets in, it is extraordinary how the memory of ancient wars, perhaps centuries before, is suddenly revived, and local or provincial movements appear demanding secession or independence.

Reminds me of the social justice types who are now demanding that America atone for oppression that took place several generations ago. Really, the whole thing is very accurate in predicting the developments of the past few decades.

>Average empire lasts about 250 years

>1776+250=2026

>We have barely 10 years left on top

RIPIP America

M-maybe we're in our Roman Republic phase and we'll become an Empire soon.

Personally I think that the best thing that could ever happen for America is for China to become a superpower. We've gotten lazy since the fall of the Iron Curtain. When we had an enemy to compete with, a rival to outperform, we did some great shit. But after we were confident were on top, we got lazy. We need a conservative revival like we had in the 80s, bring back patriotism, hard work, courage, all that good shit. If China or Russia really starts making some aggressive moves, we might see that. But if we don’t we’ll just continue to see a long slide into decadence.

Despite his mistakes, he's a good intro into reactionary thought, you can carry his book around with you and let people read it to show your position, since it's short.

But once you go deeper, you find that evola, spengler, junker, pobedonostsev, carlyle (and many others) explain the theme you need more exhaustively and accuaretely.

It's funny since the signs of america's downfall are already showing:

>Defensiveness

>Pessimism

>Materialism

>Frivolity

>An influx of foreigners

>The Welfare State

>A weakening of religion.

It was fun while it lasted.

This. The combination of China & Russia's threat to our dominance would get America back in gear.

Its not like we have to worry about being outright conquered like Romans , given current trends in wars.

>>101

>An influx of foreigners

Its not the foreigners themselves its the lack of assimilation.

>The Welfare State

This what is going to kill us more then anything else.

It will bleed the country dry financially and fosters dependence.

Not to mention the entitlement mentality that bolsters it that has been growing in every generation since the boomers.

I guess that's where what we could call the excessive materialism comes in , we humans have always had a capacity to desire material goods nut not like this before in this country.

Now that I've given it some more though , maybe America will continue to exist as a geopolitical entity under various regimes/constitutions being cycled out every quarter millennium. Kinda like the Imperial dynasties of China.

There is a realistic possibility of you losing a large part of your influence in Europe and Asia though. The international order the USA have established may yet be brought down; direct conquest of North America isn't necessary to accomplish that.

Then consider the internal decay, SJW shit, racial conflict in the US. The future doesn't look too bright for the US empire.

>you can carry his book around with you and let people read it to show your position, since it's short.

Yes that's what I like the most; actually, you just reminded me I need to tell some guy who borrowed my copy to return it.

But as always, when reading a book, you aren't supposed to agree 100% with what is said, just consider the points and analyse it thoroughly.

Well Rome managed to do that three times as well; first as the Republic, second as the Empire, followed by intermediate period after the Crisis of 3rd Century, and then finally as Byzantine Empire (which wasn't really relevant after they got rekt by Bulgars, except for a short period during the 11th century).

But perhaps dissolution into several nation states and completing the ethnogenesis, while preserving American "culture-group" would be a better idea. Right now, Texas and Utah definitely have their own culture, I can also think of Appalachia and New England, maybe also Cascadia. America could politically dissolve, yet remain culturally united, as happened with Europe during the Medieval period.

>2026

But this assumes that we were at Empire Status or rising into it in 1776 rather than the mid-late 1800s

I give us until the middle of the century for when shit really falls apart.

>>118

>international order the USA have established

Its likely that America may fall from being the massive hegemony it once was , but will still carry a lot of weight.

Its not like our empire is primarily built on overseas colonies , although that doesn't prevent balkaniziation.

>future doesn't look too bright for the US empire.

True , the whole SJW shit and welfare state is what primarily keeps the US down. Politically (internally) , economically , and socially.

>>120

To think that the Byzantines could have retained control of the the western teritories and beat the Arabs if they plague of Justinian didn't fuck their shit up.

>American "culture-group" would be a better idea

Very likely that American will be a cultural clade of similar order like Chinese or Slavic.
