The current referendum in Scotland, and the allegated intentions of Russia to anexing Ukraine, are making me wonder:

What would be the best, the more or the less countries in the world?

Picture unrelated I guess.

More countries because it would allow more effective self-governance and it would remove power from individual countries themselves.
However, this isn't that viable to do when you have gigantic nations like the USA, Russia and China, that can do whatever they like without the fear of consequence.
But in general countries shouldn't have a divided society, but instead just large enough for there to be unity among people.
Also Russia is only playing on the desire for people to secede from the country, as the people themselves are split between the East and West of Ukraine. Russia is also trying to do the same in opposing countries by agitating the people within.
Europe alone has a shitload of them, so it wouldn't be that hard to cause in-fighting.

Putin didn't really need to do much, he just needed to give them guns and then cause the Ukranian government to go overboard for the people to decide to fight for independence on their own, although he did send some support.

That is almost definitely fake. It's a really horrible quality picture.

It depends. Some countries are better at handling differing cultures and people better than others whether it be historic or methodology. Some would like to see a stronger national identity which sometimes leads to brutal tactics to integrate cultures. Countries that take on more people or land with said people tend to have better control over world affairs. Separation can lead to a weaker power but not always if the seceding forces are too much hassle. Integration and annexation can take long years and can be very taxing.

If larger countries are broken down, the impact of individual nation states or the like will be less whereas the impact of huge superpowers are considerably huge. The world would overall be better off in smaller nation states in competition with each other. It can lead to interesting things and experiments of different ideas. Competition drives many things. Ideas are no different, especially in its practical application.
