RULES AND SUGGESTION BOX

Welcome to the 8chan research and reporting division, Bunbunmaru. This board is a place for users to dump information and write articles about 8chan and imageboard culture in general. Think of it as a slightly more serious version of ED with focus on actual content, but not as autistic or wide as Know Your Meme. Think of it as a blog that anyone can edit.

The "reporting" in the name means that information here will be collected into an actual image-only webzine or newspaper later. The frequency of releases will depend solely on the speed of new content that is delivered here.

Here's a list of things you can submit.

>"best of" threads

Is there a thread on 8chan that you think absolutely must be preserved? Is it funny or informative or interesting?

>original articles

Write an article about anything you like relating to chan culture or the internet. It's OK if it's shit. If you give us permission, we can edit it for you.

>2ch and 2chan thread translations

Can you write/read japanese? Please help us by translating 2ch threads and posting them here!

>media reviews

Do you think your opinion about a movie/videogame/music/anime is valuable enough to make an article about? You're encouraged to post a long review about it.

>Leads and leaks.

Any exclusive content or requests for coverage should go IN THIS THREAD!

RULES

1. Low quality threads will be purged without warning. Low quality means threads that have a minimal amount of effort put into it or are too short to be considered "articles".
2. Articles are approved by editors. When an article is approved, it will be stickied.
3. Please tag your submission appropriately! Use the tagging guidelines for help. If you don't know what to tag it, just stick with [RP] or [OC]

8chan oc dump

Sup /newspaper/

I have been here since day one of The Exodus. Ever since day one, I decided to save most everything posted that was 8chan related. My background is in history and I believe it would be a shame to lose any part of our collective history.

Most of what I saved was oc content, drawings, and misc popular threads.

If you have a question about anything, please ask.

Preliminary History Article [8CHAN.CO][WIP]

So I threw together an article based on what I know of 8chan's history. I only arrived around September and information before then is scarce, so this could definitely use some filling out. All dates before then are based on research and guesswork, and may be completely wrong.

2013
October 22 - copypaste creates 8chan, inspired by STI's (of Tinyboard and 4chon fame) refusal to create new boards when the users wanted them.

October 23 - First board is created. /albertross/ (dead)

Probably this year - First and second migrations as laid out by copypaste here >>>/b/1360579 . Lowcard becomes a global.

2014
February 22 - /waifuist/ is created by refugees from /tv/ after the mods cracked down on inane posts.

June 9 - /legion/ is founded by /co/ refugees.

2 September - Fifth migration/"First Exodus", after Five Guys (not yet Gamergate) is banned on /v/. /burgers/ is created, but sparsely populated as of yet.

September 18 - moot goes full retard and makes the "4chan is not about free speech" sticky on /v/. People repulsed by this flock to 8chan's /v/, which remains one of the fastest boards on the site.

September 19 - "Fuck it, We're Out" propaganda images are spammed on 4chan encouraging people to leave for 8chan by 10 October.

September 20 - Hotwheels upgrades the servers four times in a day to accommodate for the massive surge of traffic.

September 22 - Hotwheels announces a partnership with 2ch.net, the largest japanese textboard on the internet.

Late September - Hotwheels invented as a nickname for copypaste AKA Fredrick Brennan.

October 10 - Some people have left. 8chan gets a sizable number of migrants from /b/.

October 16 - 8archive is opened by Drybones.

October 20 - 8chan taken down by a DDoS attack. Promptly brought back up.

October 23 - Rei migrates to 8chan, and is subsequently banned from all boards that he frequents. He takes to whining on /meta/, and subsequently creates /politik/ as a replacement.

October 26 - A shitstorm erupts over /fem/, with anons demanding that Hotwheels remove it from the header. He agrees, and blacklists several other boards including /hebe/, /furry/, and /cuteboys/. He later goes back on this decision, deciding that it is not in the spirit of free speech or the site.

October 28 - Hothweels moves to the Philippines to work with 2ch

November 8 - /pol/ style flags added.

November 24 - DoS attack via search.php brings down 8chan for a few hours.

Late November - Anon makes a thread on /meta/ asking why moderator notes were visible across boards. Hothweels removes the feature entirely and hashes IP addresses to prevent any further potential for abuse.

December 1 - /gg/ is given back to Niko_of_Death. Users immediately revolt. /gg/ is completely destroyed by high power shitposting and /gamergate/ becomes the replacement board. This is the largest board exodus in 8chan history.

December 7 - "Second Exodus", following moot's destruction/funpostization of /pol/.

December 8 - Ponyfags steal both the 1M get and 999999 get on /b/. /b/ raids MLPchan in retaliation.

December 10 - Foxworth posts on /b/ for the first time, with a Blender screenshot of his character and 3D text reading "Sup 8chan". He will grow to become one of 8chan's most profitable lolcows.

December 12 - Following a wave of "muh shills" bans on /pol/ and binary-encoded bait being posted by one of the volunteers, Hotwheels nationalizes the board. He later creates /news+/ and returns /pol/ to its original owners.

December 25 - Three sticky threads for Christmas, wishing Hotwheels, 8chan, and fellow anons a merry Christmas.

December 27 - /baphomet/ is created as an edgier alternative to /b/ with "less cancer".

December 28 - 8chan goes down for a server move.

2015
January 8 - 8chan gets hit with a DDoS instigated by srhbutts and Dan Olson unknown SJWs, using LizardStresser. This attack brings down the entire 2ch network for over 7 days.

January 9 - Hotwheels creates Weekendchan as an 8chan substitute while doing upgrades to mitigate the DDoS. It is promptly raided by anons from Ylilauta, who spam dicks on /b/. They are repelled by an animu counter-spammer.

January 10 - 8chan comes back online with few interruptions.

January 12 - SJWs go to Cloudflare and Internet.bs, 8chan's domain registrar, with CP claims. Cloudflare doesn't give a fuck and automatically reveals who sent said claims, but I.bs shits itself and suspends 8chan.co. 8chan moves, temporarily, to 8ch.net. /baphomet/ has a field day and doxxes the bullshit claimants.

January 13 - Hotwheels gets the 8chan.co domain back, but has warmed to 8ch.net. The domain move is now permanent.

February 8 - >>>/baphomet/ is unlisted from the board list after being wiped for the third time, this time by a compromised volunteer account.

February 11 - Law and Order SVU airs an episode loosely based on gamergate that features a site called "redchanit" (a mashup of reddit and 4chan/8chan.) that is used to harass an innocent fictional female game developer. The board >>>/redchanit/ is created and a CSS based off of it's appearance in the show is added to the CSS list. Hotwheels buys the domain redchan.it and has it redirect to the board.

February 12 - A user on >>>/baphomet/ reposts the dox and SSID of a federal judge. The post was removed by the global administration for being illegal in the United States.

February 16 - >>>/operate/ is created by hotwheels as a replacement for >>>/meta/ due to intense tripfag cancer and shitposting.

[HISTORY][2CH.NET][RP]

2014 2ch takeover incident

-In 2012 the rights to 2ch were given to Jim at Racequeen Inc. Hiroyuki announces he is no longer the admin of 2ch, but still remains the defacto admin behind the curtains .
-2ch ran a service where anons payed approx 35 US dollars so they could post on 2ch if they were banned or couldn’t post because of their ISP (similar to the 4chan pass)
-this service helped pay for the server fees
-August 2013, the service gets hacked. Those who registered to the service had their names, address, credit card numbers/security codes leaked. comment info was also leaked, people were able to search the 2ch archives and find out who posted what using the leaked comment info.
-It was also discovered that Hiroyuki was sending other personal info of posters to companies outside of 2ch.net
-After the hacking incident Hiroyuki is unable to pay for the server fees because the 2ch pass service was shutdown.
-On April Fools day Hiroyuki announces that 2ch is being taken over.
-The leader of the coup Jim fires the janitors, sizes down operations, upgrade the servers, and improve other things to accommodate the anons who were neglected under the Hiryoku administration.
-Jim becomes the new admin of 2ch.net

-Hiroyuki retaliates by creating a new anonymous message board 2ch.sc. 2ch.sc is just a clone of 2ch.net. It literally copies and pastes all the posts on 2ch.net to its message boards.

2ch.sc allows thread simulator blogging (copy paste blogs) which have been a problem in the past and were outlawed on 2ch.net

Why did hiroyuki create 2ch.sc ?

Hiroyuki (Mirai Kensaku Brazil) had signed a contract with a data mining company named Hotlink and sold them the personal data / user comments from 2ch.net.
-After the server take over by Jim, and the fact that Hiroyuki no longer had the rights to 2ch.net, he was no longer able to give the data mining company the data, so he created the clone 2ch.sc to fulfill Hotlinks contract.
-Since it wasn’t a contract with Racequeen (Jim) , Jim stops the servers from sending the user comment data and other personal info to hotlinks servers. He also prevents hiroyuki’s 2ch.sc from copying comments by blocking its requests.
-Anons of 2ch discovers that Hiroyuki also had money ties with the thread simulator bloggers who were racking thousands from PPC ads and advertising by laundering comments from 2ch.
-Anons of 2ch find out about Hiroyuki’s gf who is helping hiroyuki to launder large sums of money with an offshore account.

Why the anons of 2ch were mad at the Hiroyuki Administration

1) when 2ch.net was hacked, he didn’t take measures to protect the user data and reveal why he was storing personal information.
2) Sending personal info and post related content from 2ch loaded the servers and made 2ch inconvinenent. Servers would often crash, and posting limits were made to compensate
3) The Mods regularly held mass banning campaigns. This was so more users would be lead to buy a 2ch pass.
4) Hiroyuki was collecting/sending personal info from posts

In contrast , The Jim administration upgraded the servers, there were less bannings, and he regularly answers/hears requests from the 2ch users. There has been no opposition to the Jim administration so far.

[8CH.NET][WIP?][HISTORY][RP] The history of /cow/

A user of /cow/ (introman!vDS3LCZBsU) kindly provided a coherent timeline of the boards history before they had come here to 8ch.net This is to be mirrored here for histories sake. This may or not be updated if more information is to come forward. More information can be found in the next post. Picture is one of the most famous "Lolcows" as they call them.

- Editor.

Timelines: 2009-2010 Krapple Komputer Kompany opens up. It's an imageboard started by Mark Ortiz aka KrappleGuy/Kopy. Servers get DMCA'd because of CEO hosting terabytes of Hentai.

Mark Ortiz opens up the legion board in early 2010. That also fucks up since krapple has the opposite of the midas touch where everything he gets involved with ends up in failure. A young dude named Seanie B decides to host it. This was about summer of 2010 IIRC. Seanie wanted to host it on his small tech chan called 789chan to increase web traffic/appreciate the web culture.

789chan lasts from late 2010 to November 20th 2012. Seanie literally inheritis all the mods/admins of the legion board except for adding homor.

N0chan opens up on the same day as 789chan's closure. Since krapple guy wanted to host his own lulcow board away from Seanie. People come and it sustains until January 13th-15(my guess). Krapple's host literally goes awol for a month without telling anybody. The servers were in limbo and Krapple keeps telling people it will go up. Nekoarc sees that a dedicated group of people are a home and wants to capitalize on this. Nekoarc decided to used the 888chan server he bought and help his buddy krapple out. Nekoarc wanted the viewership the small but dedicated board culture brought. Since 888chan pre /cow/ migration and post chanology had like 2 posters. Nekoarc and spacepirate. The board was up from february 15th 2013 to around May 4th 2014.

After Nekoarc's buttbuddy laurelai and tranny crew decided to DMCA the server for our activism. Nekoarc didn't want to host the server anymore since it came with a lot of drama. /cow/ is the opposite of the community nekoarc ever wanted. While we're "misgendering" people. Nekoarc runs a fucking LGBT support group IRC. It would be like if Archie Bunker and Daria Morgendaffer got together. Just an akward mix.

Spacepirate who thought the whole DMCA thing was funny decided to host /cow/ on the n0chan domain krapple still had. This went on from May 5th 2014 to around September 11th 2014. Spacepirate used a megabyte host which made hosting /cow/ on n0chan really cheap. As half the non dedicated IRC posters were gone. This started to amp up in costs until it was 40 dollars a month. Now I saw the donations that the rest of the people thought SP was mis-using. He got a total of 15 bucks for about 5 months of having it open. SP was hemorrhaging money because hosting started to increase incremently to around 40 dollars a month for the last 2 months. Dude, was very impulsive with money and would spend it when he got it. He worked a dish washing job and when his paycheck of 200 dollars came in. He would spend 40 bucks on stupid impulsive shit. For a Jew. He was really bad with money.

Spacepirate got mad that the forum treated him like shit. Even though he was paying for it. So one day, he decided to stop paying for it and just leave. They've hosted /cow/ on here ever since September 11th. IIRC

[4CHAN.ORG] MOOT STEPS DOWN FROM 4CHAN

On January 21, 2015, Christopher Poole AKA moot, the founder of 4chan.org announces that he will resign from administration after 11 years on his blog and news page.

This sudden turn of events shocks even the volunteer who wrote >>>/forfree/. Considering the events of the last few months (banning of gamergate related discussion, the destruction and sterilization of /pol/), it does feel like moot had planned this for some time to take the heat and "make the bed" for whoever comes next.

Poole also revealed in his Q&A stream that day to day site administration would be taken up by three admins, one is named MDB. People speculate that the other two could be Alternative and RapeApe, the two most senior moderators on 4chan.

On the Q&A stream, the enigmatic Poole reveals very little in 8 hours, rambling from topic to topic and answering harmless questions. He mentioned financial troubles and wanting to "do more" and work on his other projects.

Will Christopher Poole continue to drive 4chan from the shadows? Will the new administration make any drastic changes to 4chan? Only time will tell…

Thanks for archiving my stuff.

Here is the link to the almost error free version of Krautchan history I have hacked down.

Now to the reason I have opened this thread. I went to Neuschwabenland in the search of KC Oldfags and stumbled upon a thread concerning OC from that place. Instead of NSL OC there were screenshot of 2 causing incidences. One of them the raid thread that caused Laurelai to Ddos Krautchan.

Culture/happenings archive idea?

So this was posted on /b/…

>Does 8chan have a place that records all the happenings that go on here? I know there's an archive but that only really helps if you know what you're looking for. I'm a shit lurker and tend to miss all the epic occurrences on here, and only really lurk /b/ so only have a vague knowledge of what win other boards have found.

>I think it might be useful for other shit lurkers to have a monthly roundup of Infinite events, maybe using a board like >>>/archive/ throughout that month to collate all the monthly goings-on and to discuss whether some happenings are noteworthy or not, with the monthly thread at the end being concentrated win.

>I know there are sites like ED that carry this type of info but I think a more self-contained approach would work better for Infinite, and would ensure that anons are kept up-to-date without going to an outside site for their info. It also means newfags can't just browse that outside site and think they know everything about 8chan - they'd have to come here first to find out what we've got up to.

>Is it necessary?

>In my opinion, it is. Whenever I see shill threads that ask whether 8chan is better than 4chan/Nuclear-IB/Masterchan/Your Mom, only a handful of anons can even provide info on shit we've done. A monthly roundup would give more anons a potted history without requiring every anon to lurk 24/7 in the right threads to understand what the fuck is going on here.

>Thoughts?

[2CH.NET][OC] Hotwheels Explains recent 2ch Controversy.

A day ago, a user on >>>/meta/ brought up a thread on reddit.com asking about why 2ch users were suddenly using reddit. It turns out that many japanese users were flocking to reddit due to the imminent depriciation of almost every 2ch browser when the API is changed. The API requires keys to be used, and the keys must not be in the source code, which means that every open source 2ch app is not allowed to use the new 2ch API. This leaves only closed source app on windows, which is run by a controversial figure that is accused of selling data.

Hotwheels explains the situation in this post:

▶Anonymous 8chan Administrator 03/04/15 (Wed) 12:21:13 a319fe No.68294

(This post contains my observations and opinions and does not reflect the official stances of 2ch.net, N.T. Technology or Race Queen, Inc.)

The story is not as black and white as the Redditors are making it seem.

2ch has a few very big problems. In February of last year, long time administrator and previous owner Hiroyuki Nishimura had a dispute with the owner of the domain and split and created his own website at 2ch.sc.

2ch has an antiquated API that works on SHIFT-JIS DAT files that contain text delimited by <>. 2ch.sc works by scraping all the .DAT files which can be used to create a mirror of 2ch.net. Then, 2ch.sc spams 2ch.net with links to .sc claiming it as the legitimate 2ch.

Nishimura's business was in selling user data from 2ch to corporations, including IP addresses and DAT files. This is how he paid for the hosting and became a millionaire. Therefore, it didn't matter to him at all how usable the actual site was, ad revenue was meaningless. 2ch.net itself is a mess, it's confusing even for Japanese users. Threads don't auto update, there are no backlinks, the indexes are almost unusable, and until recently there wasn't even an official search function. So, 2ch has an open DAT API that tons of software supports for reading, and a bbs.cgi POST API that it supports for writing.

One symptom of the open API are so called "Matome" blogs. They are just copypaste blogs from 2ch threads with tons of ads on them that use SEO to achieve higher rankings than 2ch itself in google.co.jp search results, then profit off the content 2ch users produced instead of 2ch which needs the money to keep the servers running and staff employed.

Pic related is a list of 2ch dedicated browsers. Red are supported, blue will stop working.

So, what they are doing now is trying to switch from the literally 15 year old SHIFT-JIS DAT API to a more modern JSON one with application keys and everything. 2ch no longer sells data after Nishimura left and is entirely ad supported. However, 90% of the users are using these DAT API browsers and not seeing advertising.

This is where the problems begin and where I think they are making a serious mistake. Switching the API would not be a big deal, but they are requiring developers to get keys to use it. They are putting restrictions on who gets the keys, including one that is causing the most problems: the key must not be in the source code! Open source apps are no longer allowed due to this restriction, and as you can see from my list of browsers only ONE Windows application will still work, which is run by Yamashita. There are rumors that Yamashita sells data, I don't know if they are true or not but many 2ch users do not trust him.

The real bad guys, Nishimura and .sc will easily! be able to pull keys out of these new applications and use them. This is security by obscurity, plain and simple and I do not see it working. Two scenarios: if the key is offsite on a server, you can just easily use Wireshark and get the key out, or at least see the details of the request. You can reverse engineer the apps and get the keys out that way too. They can't grant new keys in a timely matter thanks to how slow Apple is to approve apps. If even one app is easy to reverse engineer, you've got a key that can read/write from any board! Meanwhile, tons of legitimate 2ch users are going to be locked out because their developers don't have keys. Quite honestly, this could even devolve into another Digg situation, where posting the leaked Sony DRM key got all over the place. I can see that happening with these new 2ch API keys. This also won't affect Matome bloggers, they can just copy/paste the HTML pages.

2ch has some official apps, but none are as popular as the third party apps that show no ads and use the old Nishimura APIs. My recommendations to 2ch were to (1) improve the site design and read.js so people will actually use 2ch via 2ch.net, (2) all the content is from 2ch, there is no reason Matome blogs should be higher! Google hates copypaste blogs, we can fix the problem with SEO and Open Graph tags and (3) add features that the dedicated browsers do not support to make 2ch.net the best way to browse 2ch. This is of course the strategy for 8chan, 8ch.net should always be better than any third party app at browsing 8chan.

The administration is shrugging off the subreddit and the splinter 2ch's but there are large numbers of users who are going to be locked out and forced to either use the official/semi-official apps that have gotten keys or find a new site. I continue to maintain that an open JSON API like 8chan has would have been a much better decision.

I think that there is no genuine cause for concern in any case, if huge portions of 2ch users are ignored, traffic will crash and they'll put the DATs back and probably start to see it my way.

Sorry for the long blog post but that's basically the rundown.

[8CH.NET][OC] /sp/ steals major GETs on four consecutive days

The denizens of /sp/ also known as /sp/artans have turned obtaining highly desired post numbers into a game of their own, building a "quilt" of their victories. Over the past four days they have managed to get the 2000000 on /v/, Defended their 88888 and 90000 during the Superbowl party, /pol/'s 1111111 the next day.

On this very day they managed to steal the 80000 on /int/ which indecently caused a raid upon /sp/ which burned out/failed. Shortly after that, /sp/ went on the offensive against /int/ which caused the board owner to lock the board to newly opened threads for a short while. After the users of /int/ could make threads again there was a small user rebellion against the board owner as well as tearing one another apart for the failed raid that had happened earlier. Currently as I type this /int/ is attempting to raid /sp/ again in a renewed assault. Will /bane/ show up to help /int/?

Many people accuse the /sp/artans of using scripts to obtain all these precious GETS, until there is solid proof of this we can only assume the assumptions are butthurt as they say. Now I asked /sp/ how they coordinate the GET stealing and the solitary response I obtained was "teamwork*", from lurking I can say this statement is true for they have an up-to-date thread on upcoming GETS from various boards here on 8ch as well as displaying their up-to-date "aids quilt" as it has been dubbed.

Will there be updates, only time can tell.

*In some circles this teamwork is also known as autism.

Above I have posted the /sp/ quilt and /int/ propaganda from the raids.

Britbongs on /pol/ get Ex UK Parliament Member to Post Their OC

Britbongers have been busy on /pol/ lately, when a tripfag that goes by the name "TheOnlyAustralianInBrit/pol/" created a fake twitter account for the Labour party called @BootleLabour.

https://twitter.com/BootleLabour

On this account he posted fake posters that brit/pol/ made about diversity and how it "enriches our society" one such poster caught the eye of Ex-Tory MP Louise Mensch to which she retweeted to a 100k followers. Extreme banter and keks were had in the connected thread where they instructed the Australian to keep posting and digging the hole.

Eventually the Labour Party's official press twitter account came out to say that ".@BootleLabour is not an official account and is not representative of the Party's views"

Brit/pol/ then told the Australian poster to make it look like the Labour party were covering it up and it worked.

So far nobody believes that it is a fake account.

[HISTORY][OPINION][OC] Imageboards and the Future

I-I hope opinion pieces are alright. I originally posted this on /b/ but I thought it would be well-suited to here. If it's off-topic, I apologise.

~~~
I've heard people say a few times that the Internet is dying, that chan culture is dying, shit like that. I used to think so too, but I'm here today to tell you that you're fucking wrong.
>b-but no one knows the history!
So what? Do you know the intricacies of the history of your country, back to its founding (Amerifats excepted), or even past like 1600? Fuck no. Expecting every anon to know the maymays in common usage in 2005 is the equivalent of that. The important thing is the legacy of that time, and there's a huge legacy. Hell, the reason furries are hated above all other cunts with a persecution complex and a weird fetish is because it was trendy to hate them on FYAD over a decade ago. Like, that's it. There are other self-righteous faggots who are into weird shit but furries specifically catch so much shit because when FYAD first flooded into 4chan they had just been discovered and were the fashionable target – and furfags remain a common target for rusing even today.
>the normalfags are invading!
Yeah, okay, so what? Normalfags ruin everything, sure, but there's always going to be somewhere to run. Imageboards specifically are pretty fucking impenetrable to the average person, unless they're already inducted – look at the usability reports for 8chan, they don't fucking get it. Same goes for IRC, it's completely alien to them. Le Reddit xD and Tumblr are a different issue entirely, by the way, I'll get to them. The real cancer is taking the Internet as super fucking serious business (which I guess makes this cancer, but fuck you) and not just laughing everything off. It's not real life, don't get so angry, like close the window nigga walk away from the screen ahahaha.
>the Golden Age is ended!
When the fuck even was the Golden Age? Depending on who you ask the Golden Age ended before I was fucking born, and I started using 4chan in 2006. Do you know about Usenet and the Eternal September? 1993, nigger. 1993. I bet the users of old-school BBSes were bitching about the end of an era when Internet access got big. But aside from that I usually hear one of two dates for the Golden Age: 2005 and 2008. Well, here's the cold, hard truth: those times are gone. They ended. But they didn't exist in a vacuum. They've left their mark on the Internet just like Usenet did.
>rival sites have one-upped us!
This is like America worrying about the Soviets or the Chinese. Tumblr and Leddit will never
E V E R
V
E
R
be imageboards or be on the same level as them. Like, name a single cultural export of Reddit. Name one. I've asked several people, apparently "in this moment I am euphoric" comes from /r/atheism and that's all I got. Tumblr's shit has better legs, but it's just that, shit, and goes straight into the same trash can that rage comics and advice animals languish in. Remember doge? It was funny for about 0.2 seconds and then it was cancerous shit, right? That's Tumblr's greatest success. Pathetic. People worried about cultural dilution are just as ridiculous. Look at shitlord. Tumblr and their insults that aren't actually offensive, kek. But what happened to shitlord, and check your privilege, and all that? They're jokes. Tumblrinas can't use them anymore, they ONLY work as jokes. That's what we do, we take in outside influences and bend them to our own purposes. That's how it'll always be.
People bemoaning the death of the Internet, or the end of *chans' cultural relevance, are like people who have a huge fucking hard-on for Rome. Guess what, faggots? Rome fell. Rome fell, but it held on for a fuck of a long time and left a huge legacy. Half of Europe speaks debased Latin, Roman authors and politics are still studied, their architecture is imitated. Look at Washington DC to see how fucking Romaboo the founding fathers were. Rome is dead, but its legacy will never die. The same goes for imageboards. Let's say that the Exodus was our Fall of the Western Empire. That makes us the Byzantines, and we've got another twelve years to dick around. You think that's enough?
tl;dr Imageboards are Rome, stop worrying that we're becoming irrelevant because it's not fucking happening
Pic tangentially related, an old pic of Cracky and Nevada-tan I found in my pictures. That was 2004, we still remember them.
[OC][8CH.NET]Interview with the Board Owner of /sjw/
Is he a troll? Is his board satire? Or is he completely serious? Who knows, or, more importantly, cares? In just the few weeks since Nolongersilenced created /sjw/, it's become a festival of funposting that some anons have said is reminiscent of 4chan's [s4s], rising first to fourth place in the board list before sinking to a still respectable 19th.
NLS has said that he'd like /sjw/ to be a serious discussion board centered around SocJus, and there is an element of that – mostly anons telling him why it is retarded, without anyone else to hold the SJW line. While there have been attempts to bring in SJWs from other sites, 8chan's reputation as the Internet hate machine seems to have held them at bay. (Or maybe, anonymity is poison to SJWs.) In the absence of actual SJWs, /sjw/ is populated about equally by shitposters and trolls.
Scrolling through the first page, we first see three stickies filled with srs discussion [read: people baiting NLS] followed by standard shitposts down to the bottom. One that stands out is a proposition by an avatarfag, reading "The only thing 'objective' around here is that my penis belongs inside your boypussy," a one-way ticket to a response from NLS. He's insistent that he's straight, even going so far as to search up and watch (interracial) porn on camera to prove it. Naturally this has convinced no one, and the offers for benis in boipussy continue to flood in from all over 8chan.
While he's has grown slightly more hardened to the various shock images and spam posts that he deals with on a day to day basis, he's not exactly thick-skinned either. When /baphomet/ discovered that his real name is Danny, he added a wordfilter to change "Danny" to "[redacted]". NLS is fond of wordfilters in general, and has filtered both "nigger" and "faggot" to "slur". That "nigger" and "faggot" don't always mean "nigger" and "faggot" is either lost on him, or unimportant in his eyes. Nevertheless, his tolerance for our "racist, homophobic, misogynist" (his words) culture has increased such that he can now browse /b/, and tripfag while he does it.
I caught up with NLS while he was posting in a thread on /b/, with his trip on. At first I asked to have a conversation over Tox or IRC. He said he didn't have clients, and ever-wary of viruses (or something), he refused to download them. In the end he created a throwaway email agreed to talk with me there. Here follows the interview.
/svidya/ made in reaction to shit moderation and gradually degrading post quality
/v/irgins are leaving /v/ entirely or are now browsing /svidya/ in tandem in response to the current /v/ administration, the ever growing amount of newfags in /v/, and the return of cancerous elements. Many in /svidya/ lament September's state of /v/ and would like to return to that.
In 4 days have reached 1000 posts and hover at around 100 unique IPs. As of March 2nd.
Developing story.
/v/ mods are now being more active in moderation for the first time, but are still overrun by the amount of shitposting they have allowed to grow in their complacency or outright faggotry in some cases. This may or may not be a direct response to /svidya/'s existence.
[OC][8CH.NET]/bane/ brother visits the filming location of the iconic opening scene from TDKR
On January 31, a brother from >>>/bane/ posted a photograph of a field with two buildings that bore a striking resemblance to the field depicted in the opening scene of Christopher Nolans third Batman film, T he Dark Knight Rises. The area is an RAF airfield in Cardington, UK and off limits to civilians. The brothers of /bane/ contemplate holding a "bane convention" in UK, cosplaying as various characters from the scene and performing a reenaction of the original events.
[8CHAN][OC][CURRENT EVENT] Regime change on /int/
A Canadian started tossing around accusations on /int/ that Lowcard, the board
owner of /int/ and global volunteer, uses his power to save CP before deleting
it, as well as protecting pedophiles on other boards. Naturally this was met
with disdain from both anon and the vols of /int/. Eventually another Canadian
replied with "Fuck off Québec, you're giving Canada a bad name." This caused
OP to sperg out and assume that Lowcard had looked at his IP (despite the fact
that Lowcard is German).
OP then proceeded to /meta/ and stated that Lowcard had tried to dox him, in
a thread he had made after the /int/ one. More derision, more lulz. Around
this time, Lowcard announced he would be accepting email applications for
control of /int/ (thread now deleted). In total he recieved 12 applications
which he then pastebinned and made into a strawpoll. As of this writing
the rankings stand thusly:
1. Quebec Rulefag - 41%, 228 votes
2. Nazi Mod - 28%, 155 votes
3. Kawaii Portugal - 09%, 048 votes
There is some concern over the election given that strawpolls are trivial to rig.
Quebec openly appealed for /sp/ to vote in the election , promising them amnesty
for their get stealing and free reign on /int/. A Swede, posting in the election thread,
suggested that he would rig the election for Nazi Mod.
The election ends at 3:30 GMT on February 14, or in approximately 16 hours, but
it remains to be seen whether, given the aforementioned obvious ballot-stuffing and
the dubious motivations of Quebec, the results will be upheld. It is possible that
the ownership will be handed to Kawaii Portugal, or that Lowcard will declare the
election completely invlid. Quebec, however, has begun treating his election as a
fait accompli, accepting volunteer applications by email.
There appears to be strong support for Kawaii Portugal, despite his third-place spot.
Hotwheels, also a candidate in the election, requested that all votes for him be counted
as toward Kawaii Portugal in light of the rigging. He has also made a formal appeal
that Nazi Mod declare his votes for Portugal, reflecting the fact that Nazi Mod himself
is not the one doing the rigging. Nazi Mod appears to have declined.
All of this couldn't come at a worse time for /int/, struggling as they are with
upping their production of dank memes, as well as the ongoing war with /sp/. Just
today, /sp/artans grabbed both the 99999 and 100000 GETs and were instantly banned
for doing so.
[8CH.NET][OC] 8chan Adds Tor Hidden Service
On Febuary 8th, 2015 the availability of a Tor hidden service that can be used to view and post on 8chan was announced. Hidden services allow users of the Tor network to build end-to-end encrypted connections to a server that are theoretically anonymous and unable to be eavesdropped on. 8chan is the largest imageboard known to offer this feature. The onion link for 8chan is http://fullchan4jtta4sx.onion. For a more information about Tor hidden services, you can read the Tor Project's description of the protocol: https://www.torproject.org/docs/hidden-services.html.en
Users accessing 8chan via the hidden service are currently subject to a few restrictions in order to prevent abuse. As of writing they are: Tor users must fill out a captcha that allows them to make 5 posts before requiring they fill out a new captcha, Tor users cannot report posts and Tor users cannot upload images. Hotwheel's decision to use Google's reCaptcha as the captcha service has raised privacy concerns but some claim that using the Javascript-less version of reCaptcha does not put a user's anonymity at risk. It is assumed by most that reCaptcha is temporary and will be replaced with one similar to overchan's “grey soup” captcha eventually.
On boards with poster IDs Tor users all share the same 000000 ID. Some users, unaware of the Tor-related news, have begun mistakenly believing 000000 is the exclusive ID of Hotwheels or of Global Volunteers. One such incident is pictured in the far right where a Tor user on /v/ received a post number ending in triple zeroes to go with their ID.
Board Owners are able to choose whether they want to allow Tor posting or not. Of the top 25 boards, currently only /gamergate/ and /cow/ have the featured disabled.
Updates to the story of 8chan's hidden service will posted in this thread as they occur.
[8CH.NET][OC]STI, former owner of 4chon.net asks Hotwheels to close 8chan
4chon.net was a site created in 2010 that hosted the /r9k/ and /news/ boards when 4chan removed them. It was the birthplace of many memes that are used today on /pol/, such as Ben Garrison edits, ron paul and JIDF. The site had a fairly strong following of almost 20,000 posters at it's prime and several million posts but dwindled to a few holdouts and tripfags by 2013, as /r9k/ was reinstated and /pol/ was created on 4chan.
The board was shut down on December of 2014, replaced with a sign offering to sell it with an asking price of 10,000 AUD. The users of 4chon scattered across the internet. Many users regrouped on 8chan's >>>/4chon/ board, which is run by the former moderators of the site. Currently, the URL redirects to a satirical site called stopnerds.org.
STI (short for Save The Internet) was the creator and owner of 4chon.net. He is also the creator of the tinyboard image script that 8chan is based on. He is known for his strange money making schemes, disinterest in 4chon and alledged cocaine habit.
On February 13th, 2015, STI, the former owner of 4chon.net contacted the 8chan administrator via IRC to ask him to close 8chan.
STI starts off by expressing his revulsion of 8chans content and claims that Hotwheels has created a site for racists, harassers and pedophiles. He pleads to Hotwheels to close his site down for moral reasons. STI reveals that he shut down 4chon because it "spiralled out of control into a hub for hatred and racism", and believes that Hotwheels should do the same. He also claims that he only kept the site running for so long because he had to cooperate with law enforcement, who were monitoring the sites posters. Hotwheels offers to buy the domain name 4chon.net for $500 dollars and is rejected. STI counters, offering to pay Hotwheels to close the site for $10,000 AUD and is laughed at and redirected to JIM's e-mail.
[WIP][8CH.NET] Peter Coffins Wild Ride at /cow/
Prologue:
"Youtube Comedian" Peter Coffin harasses women over twitter for being what he describes as "vapid" like as if he's the shariah police. He is particularly angry with women who use makeup, cosmetic surgery or digital manipulation to make themselves look better.
One of the people he angrily tweets at replies by writing a blog post about him. Xiaxue shows that after she recieved tweets from Coffin, she immediately recieved more insults from a woman named Kimi Kobayashi who claims to be peters girlfriend.
Xiaxue becomes suspicious of such a loser having such a pretty girlfriend, and discovers that Kimi Kobayashi is a completely fabricated person, using photos of a completely different person living in korea named Lee Na Young.
Peter had been pretending to have an 18 year old japanese girlfriend for over a year.
Peters lies are exposed, making him the laughing stock of the internet. He sends a fake C&D letters to damage control, but to no avail. He makes an AMA on reddit claiming to be a victim of an internet wide smear campaign and is unilaterally laughed out.
/cow/ is a board devoted to finding "interesting" people on the internet and learning more about them. the name comes from the term "Lolcow", which means a person who can't stop feeding lols to trolls. /cow/ is not really a trolling or raiding group in the same way that GNAA or /baphomet/ is, but considers itself as observers of an internet train wreck.
Part 1. November 17, 2014
Peter had been laying low since then, hoping that people would just forget about what happened. It probably would have worked too, if he had not participated in bashing #gamergate on twitter.
A thread about him on /cow/ is created on November 17th, detailing his past and casting doubt on his new wife.
During the time between then and his exposure, he had acquired another girlfriend, married her and had a baby, all in one year. His wife is a 22 year old scottish lady named Ashleigh who likes anime.
OP points out that after analyzing Peter's social media accounts, he could only find a handful of pictures of them together, no wedding photos, holiday photos, photos with other friends or photos as a whole family. The only photographs he has of them together are selfies where he inserts himself into the picture. There is also a complete lack of photos showing the baby's face or any close up details.
/cow/ deduces that the wife is actually a realistic doll, and that the photos of them together are manipulated. Ashleigh is a real person, who is probably unrelated to peter, and there is also a doll that is made to be a fascimile of her. Several images are undeniably fabricated, but most are unconfirmed or unclear. Proving that Ashleigh is fake proves to be as hard of a task as proving god doesn't exist.
The child's birth certificate is tweeted out, almost completely uncensored save for the barcode and address. /cow/ believes this is fake, because it does not have the holographic seal that all official government documents in the state of Utah have on the bottom right corner.
Investigations intensify as Peter reports 8chan to cloudflare for child pornography with his beta bunch friends. Fredrick Brennan makes the report public, and Peter cries about being doxed.
On January 5, Peter tweets out screencaps of the /cow/ thread. He seems to spend a lot of time online looking up his own name.
Part 2. January 17, 2015
Peter posts on /cow/ and is immediately exposed. He drops the act a few posts in and settles for antagonizing posters. He replies to himself several times, showing his unfamiliarity with 8chan. /cow/ tolerates his presence and continues to investigate. An enormous list of inconsistencies, anecdotal and hard evidence of fakery is uncovered.
1. Child Birth certificate confirmed fake
2. Wife uses American spelling for everything despite being fresh off the boat from Scotland
3. Edited video shows inconsistent motion blur on wife's hands, clear signs of stop motion animation.
4. Confirmed manipulation of a picture of peter holding his wife, inconsistent lighting.
5. tone, spelling, vocabulary and language matches peter and his previous "girlfriend" completely.
6. the startling lack of family pictures for a "happily married" couple, despite both husband and wife loving to take selfies.
However, other /cow/ users remain unconvinced, or believe that Ashleigh exists, but her internet persona is faked and she may not actually be married to Peter. Some /cow/ users even claim that Ashleigh is a real person who is married and has a child with peter, but has a fetish for looking and acting like a doll, a theory that is criticized for placing too much faith Peters ability to not be pathetic.
Possibilities:
1. Ashleigh is a completely fabricated person created from a composite of real camgirl pictures, photoshop and stop motion animation using a doll.
2.Ashleigh and the baby are real and peter is just intentionally obtuse to lead along /cow/ for the greatest ruse cruise in history.
This is a developing story and will be updated as time goes on.
[4CHAN.ORG] 4chan Panel at Anime USA 2005
Just wanted to make a quick little video submission for the board.
Most of 4chan's convention panels can be found at their Youtube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCzaqOjCxPAwyQ0X1gxZ65w
I'd have to check around, but they are missing at least one panel from their collection.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R24FfuQ6TE
As the title says, this is from the 4chan panel at Anime USA in 2005. Back in their time, I loved seeing the 4chan panels. From the first reveal of moot, to shut's biting wit, there was something special about seeing some of the minds and faces of the people behind everyone's favorite website. This panel was always one of my favorites: it was a much smaller gathering, and it felt like it was kinda thrown together with very little planning, but this allowed for more personal interaction between the panel and the audience.
This panel really seems to be overlooked and damn near forgotten. As far as I could find, it was previously not on Youtube. And according to the "Complete History of 4chan" on tanasinn.info, it states it took place in 2004, so that's either totally wrong, or there was another panel that took place then that I've never seen.
Give it a watch if you have some time. Take a glimpse at a time before 4chan was really big, see some of the issues of the time, and when moot would frankly admit that he was just running 4chan for porn. Little boys, big women!
