Welcome to the 8chan research and reporting division, Bunbunmaru. This board is a place for users to dump information and write articles about 8chan and imageboard culture in general. Think of it as a slightly more serious version of ED with focus on actual content, but not as autistic or wide as Know Your Meme. Think of it as a blog that anyone can edit.
The "reporting" in the name means that information here will be collected into an actual image-only webzine or newspaper later. The frequency of releases will depend solely on the speed of new content that is delivered here.
Here's a list of things you can submit.
>"best of" threads
Is there a thread on 8chan that you think absolutely must be preserved? Is it funny or informative or interesting?
>original articles
Write an article about anything you like relating to chan culture or the internet. It's OK if it's shit. If you give us permission, we can edit it for you.
>2ch and 2chan thread translations
Can you write/read japanese? Please help us by translating 2ch threads and posting them here!
>media reviews
Do you think your opinion about a movie/videogame/music/anime is valuable enough to make an article about? You're encouraged to post a long review about it.
>Leads and leaks.
Any exclusive content or requests for coverage should go IN THIS THREAD!
RULES
1. Low quality threads will be purged without warning. Low quality means threads that have a minimal amount of effort put into it or are too short to be considered "articles".
2. Articles are approved by editors. When an article is approved, it will be stickied.
3. Please tag your submission appropriately! Use the tagging guidelines for help. If you don't know what to tag it, just stick with [RP] or [OC]

Te first step in getting people to contribute is providing information on how exactly that should happen.

Wait, so this won't be a sort of journalism-heavy news+ board? Because I've been really hankering for a journalism board.
Not a board for posting news links, mind you, but a board for conducting journalism ourselves.
Is anyone interested in that here?
No.74
just posted to say i came here because

I'm from that other thread Board Owner. I did these up really quick, I'll get more done when I can, also any topic is acceptable here in terms of articles, if so I'll write something up or find something old of mine.

Are you planning on keeping track of board raids as well?
One of the earliest raids on 8chan involved Blue, a /v/ admin at the time organizing a raid on /sext/ which is what got his mod status demoted.
/sext/ itself is a ghost town now.

There is one thing I don't understand here.
8chan is an imageboard, and as an imageboard it has a limited space and all non-stickied threads are temporary.
As such, how can you use a board here to record info on 8ch if the info is stored on a non-permanent medium?
Do you have anywhere off-site where you save the articles that are worthy?
No.149
>>148we use 8archive but i'm thinking about running my own archiver just for this board.

Sorry for the lack of updates, been very busy with work. I plan to finish the Peter Coffin story, but I'm also waiting for some closure, right now they've just got some private investigators and are waiting for verification.

I love this board idea. I had a similar idea back when that mass exodus some months ago happened.
Halfchan s4s also had at one point some sort of journalistic newspaper I don't remember taking off.
In spirit of Aya's theme for journalism, we could have Akyuu be the mascot for historical threads.
Contributing here will be pretty enjoyable.
No.214
I can hardly use the catalog because the subject text takes up all the space.
The idea here strikes me as similar with
http://www.chinasmack.com/ (and related at the bottom), maybe some inspiration there.
If this were a breeding ground for cross-language posting (i.e. 2ch x 8ch) that'd be amazing!

Hey there, mod from
>>>/svidya/ here. We would like to join up in a board ring. A group of boards that share traffic between each other by cross-linking. You guys seem to call it a confederation.
If there's a direct way to contact the board owner, let me know, otherwise feel free to reply to me in this form. If you're not the board owner, feel free to give us feedback anyways.
Thanks, and have a nice time documenting everything. You guys do good work here.

I'd like to write about the drama that happened yesterday involving a volunteer from /v/ resigning and then declaring a coup de tat on the current owner, but I happen to be directly involved in that, so I'm not sure if I should be the one writing the article.
No.359
>>357If I knew about it I would write about it but I haven't been around in a good while. Busy with stuff, might write a comparison of the Rise and Fall of 4chan with that of SA.

Might as well give a statement of some sort yet again that is still a conflict of interest..

WANTED: looking for more information about the recent /gamergate/ split. I was completely afk for a long time, so I'm very out of the loop. If someone would be kind enough to spoonfeed some important details, or take it upon themselves to write an article.
Twitter drama is very hard to follow…
No.411
>>409Basically, the boardowner of /gamergate/ got pissy at some twitter joke, handed the board over to trolls then an exodus caused two boards to be brought up, the former /gg/ and the /gamergatehq/.
Some people tend to stay away from /gg/ because of what happened last time and /gamergatehq/ seems to be run by an anon of somesort not to mention the owner of /v/ seems to have shilled for it when the first board was nuked, /gamergate/ that is.
No.412
>>411Yep, from what I'm aware of /gamergatehq/ is run by an anon called "Acid Man" that has been frequenting the /v/ #GamerGate threads for many months and has helped keep their advertiser blacklist(?) updated. /gg/ was claimed by an unknown party and was promoted by a twitter user called TheRalphRetort, a person that has been the center of a lot of drama and annoyance among /v/ and #GamerGate supporters.
Mark, owner of /v/, had wordfiltered Ralph's website to "Please use archive.today" due to its clickbaityness, sparking the initial drama if I recall correctly. Ralph subsequently raided /v/'s #GamerGate threads causing resentment between /v/'s #GamerGate supporters and Ralph.
Soon after its inception, /gamergatehq/ chose to follow /v/'s wordfilter scheme and wordfilter TheRalphRetort to archive.today, but the owner of /gg/ decided not to, lending fire to the idea that /gg/ was affiliated with TheRalphRetort in some way.

Board Owner here. It's been a really long time since I've contributed to this board, for a variety of reasons. The biggest reason is that I've been using the internet a lot less in general the last few months due to IRL stuff, and have been very out of touch with 8chan things.
I think the premise of this board is golden, and even if it's abandoned at this stage, we all did a great job cataloging the very early days and I hope people interested in 8chan years from now when it's gone big will find this place and read the stuff here.
If anyone here wants to continue this board as the head editor, contact me at cyber@8chan.co and I'll give you the password.
Hopefully after the spring is over, I'll be back to net browsan more often.
