Is he a troll? Is his board satire? Or is he completely serious? Who knows, or, more importantly, cares? In just the few weeks since Nolongersilenced created /sjw/, it's become a festival of funposting that some anons have said is reminiscent of 4chan's [s4s], rising first to fourth place in the board list before sinking to a still respectable 19th.

NLS has said that he'd like /sjw/ to be a serious discussion board centered around SocJus, and there is an element of that – mostly anons telling him why it is retarded, without anyone else to hold the SJW line. While there have been attempts to bring in SJWs from other sites, 8chan's reputation as the Internet hate machine seems to have held them at bay. (Or maybe, anonymity is poison to SJWs.) In the absence of actual SJWs, /sjw/ is populated about equally by shitposters and trolls.

Scrolling through the first page, we first see three stickies filled with srs discussion [read: people baiting NLS] followed by standard shitposts down to the bottom. One that stands out is a proposition by an avatarfag, reading "The only thing 'objective' around here is that my penis belongs inside your boypussy," a one-way ticket to a response from NLS. He's insistent that he's straight, even going so far as to search up and watch (interracial) porn on camera to prove it. Naturally this has convinced no one, and the offers for benis in boipussy continue to flood in from all over 8chan.

While he's has grown slightly more hardened to the various shock images and spam posts that he deals with on a day to day basis, he's not exactly thick-skinned either. When /baphomet/ discovered that his real name is Danny, he added a wordfilter to change "Danny" to "[redacted]". NLS is fond of wordfilters in general, and has filtered both "nigger" and "faggot" to "slur". That "nigger" and "faggot" don't always mean "nigger" and "faggot" is either lost on him, or unimportant in his eyes. Nevertheless, his tolerance for our "racist, homophobic, misogynist" (his words) culture has increased such that he can now browse /b/, and tripfag while he does it.

I caught up with NLS while he was posting in a thread on /b/, with his trip on. At first I asked to have a conversation over Tox or IRC. He said he didn't have clients, and ever-wary of viruses (or something), he refused to download them. In the end he created a throwaway email agreed to talk with me there. Here follows the interview.

Anon: Hey, this NLS? I'm the guy who wanted to do the interview. Any time you're ready to start, I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

Nolongersilenced: Alright, ask away.

A: So, first, could you give me a rundown of what motivated you to create /sjw/? Were you thinking to evangelize, or was it a simple test of 8chan's principles?

N: I thought that I could help establish a place to discuss SJ issues and maybe convert some people. It hasn't really worked out the way I'd hoped, though.

A: Heh, I guess it hasn’t, at that. I have noticed a few people trying for serious discussion of SocJus, though, so don't give up hope. Now, as I understand it, before you created the board you were unfamiliar with chan culture except in passing. Now that you've been immersed in it as a semi-prominent public figure, how do you feel about it? Has your opinion changed?

N: No, it lives up to what I thought it was. Racist/homophobic/misogynist. People seem to take joy from others suffering; I don't get it, personally. And yeah, there's a few people interested in discussion. One of the problems is that I am primarily the only SJW on the board. I could try and reach out to a few SJW communities, but I don't think they would come to 8chan.

A: Yeah, you're unique in that respect. Anons are often paranoid about shills from SJW sites, but they miss that for many of them, the culture is not just repulsive, as you find it, but incompatible with their modes of interaction. Combine that with 8chan being seen as 4chan's heir and you've got a lot of resistance to coming.
Have you tried, nonetheless?

N: Not yet, I'm trying to psych myself up enough to ask r/gamerghazi if anyone would be willing to come over and debate, but I'm kind of nervous that I will receive a negative reaction.
Funny enough, some anons tried to get some people from Tumblr to come to the board, they said no.

A: I wouldn't worry. Ghazi might have brain problems, but it'd be hard to see an invitation to a new SJ community as anything other than well-meaning. Hopefully it'll go well when you manage it. Do you think there's any redeeming qualities to an identity-free culture? (not necessarily chans, if you feel they're completely irredeemable.)

N: Uhhh…. I think it can be helpful for people to talk about abuse or embarrassing things that have happened to them without being judged.

A: It's interesting you mention that. 8chan, and 4chan before it, has a tradition of anons writing out their stories in greentext and posting them. For some it's cathartic, others just want to share their experiences. Have you read any of those?

N: I've seen some of those around, although, I can't really recall a specific one though. I must admit that I don't really see why typing normally wouldn't suffice.

A: I remember talking with you when you'd just started /sjw/ and asking you what boards you frequent – /b/ was noticably absent. Now that you're using /b/, I have to ask: what other boards have you branched out to?"

N: I've been hanging around /b/ obviously, I also browse /v/, /leftypol/, and /mu/ (Although the last two are really slow).

A: Ha, /leftypol/? I'm surprised. /leftypol/ wasn't too happy when you first made /sjw/. They knew they'd get associated with you and as I understand there aren't a lot of SJ adherents on /leftypol/. Still, what do you think of it?

N: They seem a lot more moderate to me. I guess you could kind of consider yourself on the left when the other politics board is so incredibly far to the right.

A: There is that to consider, yeah. I'm a libertarian, so /leftypol/ and /pol/ are both amenable to me. You're a communist, right? Do you have a specific school or branch of communism that you prefer?

N: I believe in a altered form of Leninism, one of the altered beliefs is that the government has a hand in promoting equality, and that government officials should all come from academia.

A: Well, you know what they say about scholars and ivory towers. /mu/, I wouldn’t have expected either. What kind of music do you like to listen to?

N: I'm not that knowledgeable with music to be honest, so I'm not really sure what all the different subgenres are. The music I listen to is usually metal, stuff like Linkin Park, Slipknot, and Disturbed.

A: Interesting taste.

N: Heh.

A: What do you think of the perception of 4chan as "dead" by 8chan anons? Do you view 4chan as fallen to SocJus or too heavily moderated? Who do you prefer in terms of administrative policies – Hotwheels, or moot?

N: I think that it's an exaggeration. I visited 4chan recently and it still had people acting inappropriately. Personally, I feel that some people think that if a place isn't the edgiest of the edgy then it must be some SJ hugbox.

A: I think that for a lot of people, moot being seen as caving to SJWs was just the final straw. There's a lot of discontent even now on 4chan, due to the way it's moderated. No one knows exactly what the unwritten rules are, on top of the draconian written rules. GG being banned was the tipping point.

N: Well, I never used the site so I don't really know all that much about it. At first glance it didn't appear too friendly to people like me.

A: If you were given command over a chan tomorrow, how would you manage it? (inb4 ban everyone and send their IPs to the party van) Is that how you manage /sjw/, or would the style be different?

N: I would just try and keep it SFW, no gore, slurs, doxx, or promoting hatred. Porn would be allowed, but only on boards specifically dedicated to it. I would definitely track IPs in case someone tried posting illegal content, but, for the most part, I would keep it anonymous.

A: That last part I find odd. You've said in the past that you don't feel the Internet should be anonymous at all, with real names or at least pseudonyms being forced everywhere. Have you changed your opinion on that, or would you force tripcode use on NLSchan?

N: Well, I was mainly thinking in the context of the present. As of now, there isn't anyway to really prevent anonymity on the internet, so may as well roll with it for the time being. I would not force tripcode usage on my chan, but I would have a large mod team to try and prevent people from doing terrible things.

A: That’s certainly practical. Well, NLS, that's pretty much all I wanted to know. Thanks for the interview.

N: Thanks for your time.

Author's note: God damn, this is poorly formatted. Editor-san has permission to clean this up if he wants, though I wouldn't know how.

Nice job. the /sjw/ guy seems pretty clueless.

0f5bf5 No.372

Man that guy reeks of newfag, not to chans but the whole damned internet.

Good interview though.

>Disturbed
The guy's aware that Draiman's pro-GG, right?

>Linkin Park, Slipknot and disturbed

Jesus, I haven't heard those names since Middle School.

What's curious to me is why does he continue to try when he can't convert anyone? Does he have a guilty pleasure of being a Anon?

af0f06 No.386

So he is legit, he just doesn't know? That's pretty interesting.
