From Hotwheels himself:
>I can now finally see that Infinity Next sucked all along. Oh sure, its features were great, but Stephen Lynx did all the same shit for free.
It's over.
Time to pour drinks, laugh at Josh, and wonder what happens next (hahaha).
I'm going to be straight here /next/.
I am a cuckold weaboo, but I am also a white nationalist. I believe that whites have contributed more to humanity than any other race, space travel, anti-biotics and the list goes on. But when it comes down to it, blacks are just better at fucking. There is no shame in admitting this. There is no shame in admitting that despite the infinite intellectual and moral superiority of the white race, black cock is just better at pleasing women.
The reason white women are turning from the cause and running towards the blacks is simply because they are not being sexually satisfied. Can you blame them? If you don't get enough to eat at home you're going to go out to eat, Simple. The only way to save the white race from miscegenation is cuckolding. My pure white wife is my angel, the apple of my eye. And I want nothing but the best for her. So every friday she gets to have her fill of black bull semen. And our relationship goes on like normal. We love each other, and plan on having a mixed child soon where I will teach him about our cultural ways as well as the red pill. She also shares my red pilled beliefs.
Monogamy is a tool of the jews. Just give it a chance once, Its exhilarating. There's something deeply majestic about watching a toned muscular black stud going in and out of a beautiful white woman. Try it once.
Brown Pill For Jewshy boy
Have you taken the brown pill yet, mateys?
it's a tough pill to swallow! The brown pill was founded in 1999 by Sir Reginald Brownpill, who presents and narrates the attached video.
Forget red and blue pills, brown pills are the way of the future.
Video related. Please leave your questions, comments, and concerns below about this radical new paradigm of thinking!
Swallow the brown pikklkll today! Red pills are for fedora fucking wearing faggots, blue pills are for the ignorant masses. Ignore the other le epin /pol/ maymays, this one is the readl deal.

VOTE ON 8GAG'S FUTURE HERE, NERDS:
You incompetent fucking shithead
Can you go a day without an idiotic blunder? How is it even possible to be this fucking awful? You got paid 12,000 dollars to do this. Literally anyone else would do a better job. You didn't just make an ugly piece of shit that no one likes, you made it incredibly slowly after receiving an amount of money that far exceeds its value. Then, when it was finally ready, months after when literally any competent dev would have finished, it doesn't even fucking work. The best part is that for months you've been a smug, egotistical faggot who displayed open contempt for any suggestions or criticism from the userbase (you know, the userbase you're developing for, the userbase that fucking paid you), despite having done NOTHING of value. You're a complete and utter failure, Josh. You always will be.
Hello!
I came here just to thank josh for all the hard work he is putting into developing the software we all can enjoy.
I am really glad you could share it with us, and i can't wait for the brand new way of seeing 8chan yet to come!
The beta version looks amazing, and has a lot of interesting features that are not very often used on the other imageboards.
Keep up the good work, josh! You're doing great!

Translation
I'm looking for translators to do work within the next month or two. Your job will be to translate the entire application into a second language, using the Laravel language system.
The source language files can be found here.
https://github.com/infinity-next/infinity-next/tree/master/resources/lang/en
I will write up extensive, clear documentation on how translation works when it comes time to do it, but for the most part, you are just copying /en/ to another 2 letter language code (/ar/ for Arabic, /sp/ for Spanish, etc) and then changing the right-hand assignment, like this:
/en/greetings.php
return [
"hello" => "Hello!",
"whatsup" => "{0,1}Whats up, dude?|[2,Inf]What's up, guys?",
"address" => "Welcome back, :name.",
];
/sp/greetings.php
return [
"hello" => "¡Hola!",
"whatsup" => "{0,1}¿Que pasa, amigo?|[2,Inf]¿Que pasa, amigos?",
"address" => "Bienvenido, :name.",
];
With this codex, any time I call for a translation, I can get a reliable definition. In a template, these examples would look like:
trans('greetings.hello')
trans_choice('greetings.whatsup', $numberOfPeople)
trans('greetings.address', [ "name" => $nameOfPerson"])
Super easy to do, anyone can do it. Hopefully.
If you're interested, I'm looking for almost every language. Please email me at josh@infinitydev.org so I know how to reach you.

Request for updated info
Not trying to troll here, genuinely requesting an update on current status as I don't do Twatter.
TBH I really want Next to succeed, the shortcomings (script errors when trying to post, flood detection false positives etc) of the current software are becoming more prevalent.

FAQ & Complaint Thread
I've completed my work with getting Infinity Next to support PostgreSQL (I think, at least ...) which is a huge step forward towards our Open Beta, which I still hope to have by November 9th. With this considerable burden now off my mind, I will take a breather and try to answer some questions and deal with complaints.
YOU WILL NOT BE USING NEXT ON THE 9TH
8chan is not going to be running Infinity Next on November 9th. There will be a LIVE BETA that imports some or all of 8chan's current database and lets people try out the software as if it did switch over so we can make changes before it does go live.
What will happen on the 9th?
Infinity Next will be deployed on a server owned by 2channel using a near-production environment. It will exist on a subdomain of 8ch.net (like beta.8ch.net) and will import some, if not all, of 8chan's database so that you can play around with features as if it were a live site. It will not be live until December.
Open Beta IS. NOT. the final product
copypaste is hurrying things through the pipe and I am going to have an inadequate amount of time to redress complaints before the open beta begins. During the month of testing I will rush to complete missing features by importance, as decided by me and copypaste.
Launch Date IS. NOT. the final product
I wanted a December 25th release. That's not happening. copypaste said he's going to use Next by December not matter what. This means I have to double time to get things done. This also means it won't be 100% by the day 8chan is using it on 8ch.net live. We will still be making changes months, probably even years after we start using it.
The design IS. NOT. the final product
I'm still tweaking the design. I'll be tweaking it long after release. I have a big fucking list of things that piss even me off about the design and I will continuously be changing it to get it working as well as I can get it on all forms of device. If you don't like it, I still love you and that's fine, because ...
YOU WILL be able to change styling
I will incorporate a custom CSS and JS tool, at latest by the release. That is one of the most important features to both me and copypaste. My whole intent with the front-end is to give something that people can style to flavor. I've positioned HTML elements so that it's easy to regress the form to its normal state (top of the page), and communicate with skinners so that I can know what I need to add to get the website looking like BOs / users want it to. Just because I think something you don't like looks good does not mean I am revoking your ability to change it. It's your computer, you can do whatever the fuck you want with it.
I DO NOT DECIDE what goes on 8chan
copypaste / Hotwheels does. He will fork infinity-next from infinity-next/infinity-next to ctrlcctrlv/infinity-next and make whatever crazy hacks, changes, and design modifications he wants. If you think I'm some reprehensible cunt who can't design shit, you're in luck: I don't own 8chan.
"IS THIS FEATURE MISSING?"
Yes. A lot of front-end features are not implemented. I'm sorry. I'm way behind where I want to be on the JavaScript widget feature parity. I am continuously working on that. I know a lot of quality of life shit is not present on Next at the moment, which is scary considering how close to the wire we are getting, but I'm not going to forget these important things that people (myself included) use every day.
I have complaints / suggestions about the design
If you have objective criticism I encourage you to email me with complaints. If you use screenshots to show me how something can be done better, you are much more likely to convince me that you are right.
Common complaints are OPs having post boxes and there being missing <hr> elements between threads. I completely disagree with those items. I've tried demoing Infinity Next without OP backgrounds and with lines, and I absolutely hated it. I find those things visually irritating. The main issue is that it's somewhat more difficult to tell threads apart on the index page now, and I agree, but lazily throwing in page breaks does not resolve the issue. Having OPs without boundary boxes causes them to bleed together when they do not have replies (especially if they do not have images). I have demonstrated these concepts on dev/infinity/ and am confident that this way is better, but still seek out ways to help threads pop against each other. This is the kind of feedback that is valuable. Caplocks rage goes into the dumpster.
Why can I make accounts?
In Next, your one account can be used to own multiple boards and have multiple moderator positions. Registration is abstracted from board creation, but it is not required for anything the typical user cares about.
Why does file uploading start before I submit a post?
The file uploader is actually really cool. If you're uploading an image / webm / song that already exists, the checksum is bounced against the server, and if it's found, you don't need to upload at all. This saves bandwidth and makes it so that if your post fails you don't need to wait a second time. I'll add a feature to turn this off in the soon-to-be JS Options panel, but you'd really be missing out on a great piece of technology.
CAPTCHA!?!?!
A captcha is in some form required to prevent bot spam. The one we have right now is 3~6 letters and is required once per hour or once per ten posts (as a demonstration of the system). If you see a captcha after posting, that's because the post form doesn't update after the requirement is lifted. You can add nothing at all the second time you post. The post form updating to show requirements is an immediate to-do.
I hate CAPTCHAs.
Ye we all do, but an automated turing test is required to keep out spam and advertisements that degrade the quality of life for everyone on the website. It helps with a lot of things. Improving the captcha is a big priority of mine and our captcha system is actually its own thing, so if more people use what we've built on their own projects, Infinity Next will reap those benefits automatically.
4chan bans all public IPs and requires a captcha on all pages or $10 for a pass, which is then tied to every post you make so it can be revoked if you are a spammer who paid for a pass. You either identify yourself by using a domestic IP your ISP will keep track of, or you identify yourself via credit information.
Google's system ties to your account. Forums don't often require captchas but on registration. We can't make it so that posting with an account requires no captcha, because then we'd have to tie posts to accounts, and that's pretty fucking gay tbh. Next tags no identifying information to your content except on posts, and even that is automatically pruned once every 2 weeks or so. This severely limits what options we have to deter spammers.
In short, there is nothing we can do to eliminate the need for a captcha. We can only make them better, easier, less intrusive, and have them respect your privacy. If you are PHP developer and have an interest in turing tests, here is our project:
https://github.com/infinity-next/brennan-captcha
I'll update this posts if I see more duplicate questions or concerns.
Is Hotwheels kill? (Potential stupidity)
Fellow Infiniteers: I have one question to ask: What the hell is up with Hotwheels? What happened to our based cripple Aryan who used to post regularly and was incredibly responsive to the community?? Why hasn't he posted on any board for months! Why does he need this Josh guy's help, and what did I miss? Josh, if you could chime in, that would be fucking awesome.
BON VOYAGE, SITE GOBLIN
>continuously disappointing HW, users, and BOs
>continuously failing to deliver on features
>continuously failing migrations
>has his head so far up his ass he can't admit that he's such a huge fuckup
So when does HW cut his loses and say BON VOYAGE to this fucker?
ui changes
a few UI changes that need to be made:
1) new thread pop-up window opens by default and it's in the way of the main page and you have to close it. it shouldn't be there unless you need it.
2) the overlay when you hover over a thread in the catalog, why does the catalog have to be like a minefield that i have to scroll through, making sure the mouse cursor stays in the margin lest i wish to go KABOOM with a stupid overlay that gets in the way of other threads? simply changing the element's background color to a lighter huehuehue like it does here would be sufficient.

Blocking proxies and vpns
Can you give BOs the ability to block proxies and VPNs? Like we can compile our own list of proxies from various sites, put them through a system you devised to prevent them from posting on a board.
or whatever
I'm sick of having to deal with the same spam and CP 3-4 times a day every day. It's not easy having a 24 hour volunteer protection squad either and if you do have a lot of volunteers then chances are there's going to be a lot more meddling and arguing between them about how a board should be run which leads to board drama.
Sorry I'm /tech/ illiterate so I don't know if this is feasible or not. and if it is I'd like to know why you wouldn't implement it sometime in the future.

Next catalog is absolute garbage.
literally looks like something i'd expect to find on tumblr.
not even joking either. it literally has that same feel of pandering to the lowest common denominator with bells and whistles but lack of usability.
you can report a thread via catalog, but you cant see how many posts/images (you see where the image orients to the left when you hover over? the right of that would be the PERFECT place to put those. i hope you're reading this, josh who am i kidding? it's pretty clear at this point that Josh is illiterate), the whole layout looks obnoxious, you have to scroll to the bottom to post a thread, and you have to click on the image or a small "open" banner to open the thread (which is the same with the current catalog, but Next's layout serves to highlight it and make a minor inconvenience into a fucking nuisance).
and did i mention that it literally looks like it's modeled after more "trendy" (ie, batshit retarded) social networks? i know i did, but seriously Josh. what the fuck is wrong with you?

Infinity Next's Failed Transfer
Now that the site transfer failed and Infinity is restored, the site seems to be functioning better than before.
/pol/ used to need a new thread after 350ish posts, now we get around 550 posts before it has problems.
This is a clear sign that Infinity could be fixed rather than replaced. Clearly something that was clogging the tubes got cleared at least partially because of the downtime.
There are boards that no one uses that are getting flooded with spam posts, and how many of them there are in total I have no idea, thanks to the ability to de-list them. I can only imagine that some of those spam bots stopped functioning because of the downtime, so now posting has been freed up for actual users.
Hotwheels should take one last serious look at places Infinity could be repaired, while Next gets a lot more development time that it needs.
Migration Plan 2016
Here's my plan for the new migration.
Site
Instead of shutting down the site, it will remain up.
Boards
1. Boards without new posts will be skipped.
2. `posts_` tables will be locked one at a time. This will prevent new posts from being made.
3. Because of 8chan's templating issues, I can't put up a 503 page for these boards. Instead, I will hijack the banner application and replace board banners with a graphic explaining that the board is locked and under migration.
Posts
I'm going to tweak the migration schema to include older attachments. Specifically, I want to be able to import post >>>/cow/125 and its attachments perfectly. This is an incredibly important historical document.
With any luck, after the migration is done, we'll be able to switch over and start opening second servers.
The beta is now up again.
everything new will be lost?
>We will not run another import. Anything new posted to 8chan's current site will be lost with it when the switch happens for real.
so is the period from the failed update to the real one basically just the era of the shitpost? everything we post, all the new threads will get wiped to how it was when the fake update started happening, so why contribute? Anything we spam will disappear from the face of the earth when infinity next for real happens. or am I interpreting this wrong?
Roadmap for the end of December
So a lot of people are rightfully pessimistic as the migration did not take hold. I'm not too thrilled about copypaste calling it a failure in the title because it gives people a poor understanding of what has happened.
The actual data transfer was mostly successful, but the software's ability to interact with the database following the migration was sluggish and inadequate. This was a two-fold issue: Laravel, our framework, used an inappropriate query for PgSQL in certain instances that was 100x up to 1000x slower than the MySQL equivalent. PHP also poorly implements PgSQL through its own drivers. An engineer who is responsible for writing large portions of PgSQL has said he may work on a formal commit to PHP, but in the mean time, I have been developing work arounds.
The outcry is disproportionate to the size of the setback. This is not game-ending or a fundamental problem that would take months to fix; we have options. I've opted to continue fixing and improving Laravel's support for PgSQL. If that cannot work, we can simply import to MySQL the next time we do this (if we do choose to update the shard), but that's less than ideal, as PgSQL is very fast when set up correctly.
My attachment is a calendar. I will be in Japan as a part of a 2channel Christmas group that I have been invited to. I don't know what we're doing, but it's probably booze and Japanese whores, two things I'm not particularly interested in. I'll probably continue developing over this period.
Today, I have forked Laravel's framework and made a series of commits. I have been systematically destroying PgSQL errors as they've cropped up, and now I am unable to create errors. That's not to say the site is completely usable yet. Although I have been able to successfully post and navigate, the site is very slow because I have failed to properly index the 3,000,000 row Posts table. This is my next goal.
The other additional problem is how the permission table builds permissions and I would say this is probably the largest issue as of right now. Quite simply, the way I am doing permissions works very well with a small data set, but since we now have 11,000 roles it is extremely slow to build the finalized mask. I haven't worked out a plan to replace this, and it will probably take more time than the aforementioned optimizations. This is the big baddie right now and it will be addressed. When it has been addressed, the site should be usable -- and hopefully, quite fast.
That just about sums up the total problems left. I am still extraordinarily optimistic and believe that we can transition before the New Year. If the site is significantly stabilized before then, we will begin moving more adaptable communities like /sp/ over to get a feel for how the site handles load.
Thread tags
I'm curious how people would feel about thread tags. This is a system that exists on quite a few formats. It's primary advantage is allowing people to filter content based on what tags they wish to see or not see.
For instance, the big boards like /v/ and /a/ have respective meta boards, which seems a bit disorganized. You could instead have [Meta] posts. Though, a better solution to this specific issue may be just to have sub-boards.
Another example would be this very board. I've plugged in some simple CSS to show you what I mean. This thread is a [Suggestion], but you would also want to filter by [Updates] or [Complaints].
What do you guys think?
I.P. hash consecutive bump limit
To dissuade users from bumping their own threads or threads they like redundantly (particularly on smaller boards where this is actually an issue of contention rather than an almost imperceptible triviality) I propose a limit to a thread's ability to be bumped by the same person several times in a row based on i.p. hash set by the B.O.
For example, as B.O. you could set it so that a thread won't bump if the last three posts have the same i.p.
>but what about proxies
What I'm suggesting is just a minor deterrence, unfortunately there is no cure for autism. I think putting any little flourish you can to dissuade shitposting in whatever forms it has the potential to take in an unobtrusive way can never be a bad thing.
layout tweaks
Pardon my terrible drawing
>layout and design has taken a back seat
I want to probe on this a little bit.
Yotsuba is a comfortable and familiar layout, I don't think many would disagree. But It isn't entirely efficient of screen space.
I personally don't like how the widths of posts vary so much. And it's worth nothing that the current layout only fully utilizes the left side of the screen. The right side is completely unloved and could be the perfect place to align media. Referring to my shitty drawing, A, B are fixed and C, D are the minimum vertical post size whether the post contained media or not, respectively.
A design like this would benefit by allowing more posts in less vertical space.
I have minor web dev experience, but I haven't had any time off lately. Once I get a chance I'd like to mock up a more formal idea.
btw im going dark for the next ~hour
CAPTCHA Compromise, fam
I think there may be a better compromise between the now-standard once every 24 hours that 8chan uses and the once every hour/once every ten posts that's proposed for Infinity Next.
How about once every 24 hours per board? I feel like this would drastically reduce the spam by making it a pain to post on more than a couple boards at a time, and does so without impeding the regular use of the other 99% of users whom probably don't actively contribute to more than a few boards anyway.
For example...
With the current system, a bot-spammer just has to fill out the captcha once per day and then the entire site is fair game for any boards
With the proposed system that's currently in use at infinitydev and the beta, most regular users will have to input a captcha for a good percentage of the posts they make throughout the day (if they're not spammers to begin with), but the spammers will get 10 posts per captcha.
With this thread's proposal most people will probably just have to solve a captcha 2-5 times a day tops depending on how many boards they actively contribute posts to (I admit this 2-5 number is entirely anecdotal on my part, I'm basing this assertion primarily off of my own personal use of the site and that use so-described by some of the users of my board), but for a spammer to spam 10 boards or so it will take him far more initial effort to spam these boards than even the once per hour suggestion would, they'd need 10 captchas to make 10 posts across 10 boards.
TL;DR
24 hour CAPTCHA
1 solved CAPTCHA = free reign on the site for 24 hours
1 CAPTCHA per hour/per 10 posts
1 solved CAPTCHA = free reign on ten boards per CAPTCHA
24 Hour CAPTCHA Per Board
1 solved CAPTCHA = free reign on only one board for 24 hours (hell, you could even move it down to 12 or 6 hours if you felt like it and it'd still equate to far less CAPTCHA that real users would have to be tormented with)
Considering the current modus operandi for the spammers is to post 1 thread on a board once every 24 hours or so (it would be redundant for them to post multiple threads on a single board after all), I feel like not only would this system be less obtrusive to genuine users of the site but more obtrusive to the spammers than Infinity's currently proposed system by a substantial margin.
What do you think?
Beta update when?
It's been three days since >>2534 and your sticky seems to be frozen.
Can we get an update on the how beta setup is going?
GAS THE BOARDS! SITE WAR NOW!
You can end our suffering, Josh. You know what you have to do to make things go back to normal so that we can have a smooth, drama and bug-free transition into infinity next month.
Right now there are thousands and thousands of dead boards causing tinyboard to shit itself and there is one, and only one solution to this problem...

Pre-Release Version 0.4.0 Upcoming
We are approaching the end of Month 6. I am aiming to have a beta import of 8ch.net live for open testing by November 9th. This stable version will also mark Pre-Release Version 0.4.
This means that there should be equivalent tables for all data in the current Infinity database, and most (if not all) of 8chan's core system features should be present on Infinity Next. Many front-end features will still be missing, but we can add those over the course of November and December as we gain user feedback and continuously tweak the interface.
Infinity Next is unstable at the moment because of a huge number of change I've made this week to prepare for this import. This includes moving all public assets into the `static` directory, a change to the primary navigation that is completely unfinished, and a partial boardlist import. So, please bear with me. I realize that the site looks a bit trashed at the moment. I'm juggling a few updates at a time right now. I wanted to do the primary nav, then realized I had to get the board list done first, and then realized I was missing statistics, then realized I was also missing tags. When I tried to add the tags, I encountered issues with the collate which caused the scare that I would have to truncate the database, but my upgrade plan worked.
So this week, I got the site recording hourly statistics, I got the board tags working + an interface to support it. The primary navigation is ~30% complete, but the board list is more along 75% done. I'm working my way back up out of the rabbit hole now that the big nasty stuff is out of the way and by the end of next week the whole site should be much more cohesive and finished looking.
captcha
Will Next have captcha enforced site wide to prevent the type of thing that happened on >>>/ints/?
Meanwhile on /next/
>Hey josh can we get something as a default feature on infinity next
>HEY, WE HAVE IT ON CATCHAN!
I appreciate the work but you should stop posting your catchan thing already, or post it somewhere else. Isn't this supposed to be a board about what actually gets in infinity next? Josh?
View OPs only
Cool feature would be "view just OPs" without any of the last replies visible like in the standard index.
Could show about 50 OPs per page or just keep numbers the same.
Also you could have a search bar and when you type in something it shows you just the OPs that have that word in the post.
This would be a good alternative to the catalog.
Nerf board owners
How about having a system that never deletes posts, only makes them non viewable. Each board should have a filtered and unfiltered version that users can choose between. The filtered board would be the one that board owners clean up while the unfiltered would just show everything that's been posted.
The content posted here should belong to the user posting it and 8chan as a free speech site should support this. Also if Board Owner goes bad he can't really destroy the board.
Plans for the middle of October
My plans for the immediate future:
- Finish my redesign of the global navigation. Everyone is going to immediately hate it but it needs to happen.
- Add the global board index. Hopefully my code for that is modular enough I can import it no big deal.
- Finish user interface for site staff.
- Improve how board and site settings are handled as per this ticket:
Complete ban, report, appeal system underway
By the end of this week the entire ban system will be overhauled to include:
- Binary IP storage (IPv4&IPv6 Support)
- Range bans
- BANNED! page with table showing all bans
- Reports (local&individual)
- Report account association (opt-in)
- Board and site config for custom report windows
- Ban appeals
- Ban appeal management
- Report and appeal notifications for staff.
get hype for the hotpockets
More options regarding wordfiltering
>want to filter niggerspeak
>can't filter "fam" without it breaking other words, such as "familiar" or "famous"
There should be a wildcard system or a "match exact word" option for wordfilters, or even an option to match characters with ASCII alternates (c to ç, for instance) to catch anyone trying to evade.
Global Navigation Redesign
This is an early concept of how I want to redo the nav.
Main modules are static up at the top and sizable enough to be operated on a mobile device.
Click "Boards" will show you three different lists: Your favorites, top boards, and most recently active boards (that are not also top boards).
Thoughts?

This board is for discussing Infinity Next, a project I am leading that aims to replace what 8chan is run on. It is being built from scratch on the Laravel framework in PHP. The project is open source and licensed under AGPL3.

> Who the fuck is Josh
I am a software developer "hired" by copypaste to work on this project. I was selected from 5 other people proposing similar ideas. I have worked on the existing codebase before, my contributions being the current board list and the upgrade to the report system late last year.
I have written a small autobiography here, if you're interested in reading more.
https://infinitydev.org/contribute
> How is copypaste / Hotwheels involved?
copypaste is overseeing development to ensure that it stays loyal to the interests of his community. He also helps me advertise my project so I can receive funds to continue developing full time. He also has offered code directly, such as a brand new captcha system that I will be integrating into the software.
> I think https://infinitydev.org looks bad
As of writing, we are nearing the end of Month 3. and design has taken a back seat until now. My primary focus has been to get the core featureset of the software running, and running correctly, before trying to make the design look good. I am currently improving the design, and am very interested in feedback.
> There's a feature I don't like in development
People have expressed concern regarding certain features. One such feature was long-term retention of posts, which has been turned into a board option after listening to feedback. Not everything I want to add will make it in, especially if people feel it hurts the fundamental feeling of the imageboard. To paraphrase copypaste, "I am not the last word in what gets added to Infinity Next, but I am the last word on what gets added to 8chan". Because of the nature of open source software, he can make any changes he pleases before utilizing the software on 8chan, in short vetoing my decisions.
> I recently gave Hotwheels some Bitcoin, what happened to that?
Support that goes to copypaste will be used by him. Support that goes to me will be used by me. If you'd like, you can also support the project by donating to copypaste on my behalf. He will pay me over time as work is finished to sustain the project without having me become a liability.

> I don't see any mention of this feature I suggested awhile back
Right now, the aim of the project is to meet feature parity with 8chan, meaning we want to make Infinity Next do everything Infinity can before we focus on adding many new features. Sometimes we can detour from the beaten path if it's a great idea and in reach, but for most suggestions (especially elaborate ones), we can only make note of it or speak hypothetically.
> Can we add this feature?
"Yes". The entire point of this project is to add new stuff. We are extremely technically limited in what we can do with the current codebase. If you're interested in a technical explanation, check out the front page of http://infinitydev.org -- I go into detail about some things holding us back.
Though, "can we add it right now", is a very different question and it entirely depends upon what I'm working on and if it's better than what we have currently on 8chan.
> Can I help with development.
Absolutely. Check out my Github for contribution guidelines.

> What are the rules for this board?
Threads should be about Infinity Next, and should be posed as a suggestion or inquiry in a way that warrants a response. Trash threads will be treated like trash.
My goal with this board is to prevent it from becoming /meta/ v3. If your post isn't about Infinity Next or is obvious shitposting, I will delete it. Sorry. I want actual feedback to my software.
Board name character length
Is there any way we can go back to having 4 characters being the limit for board names?
I dislike the long board names for many reasons. Long names kill creativity, 4 characters forces people to be inventive, I've never seen a good long name or something that isn't easily abbreviated. Also seeing something long like /gamergatehq/ alongside /a/ with just one character isn't right.
Staff Management
Amigos,
The development funds are getting a bit low, so soon this week I will be finding some way to interact with the broader community to talk about work that's been done and what's left to do.
One of the things that people bring up with me is a missing checkbox for the 2nd milestone regarding moderator management. I left this behind a while back because it required a complicated and not-so-fun-to-make user interface that the average tester wouldn't get to see or experience when browsing the development site. So, in the interests of sustaining the project, I skipped ahead to improve the stuff people cared most about.
Now that the actual threads and boards are looking and feeling pretty swell in use, I'm stepping back to tidy up loose ends. This means the board management. I want to add a few new settings, but first and foremost, I need staff management. This is very important and cannot be delayed any further.
This is some preliminary screenshots of the staff management area. You'll notice right away it's being designed with the idea of allowing 1 account to be used as staff on multiple boards. This is a new feature permitted by the more flexible permission system we have.
A part of this will be the caste system (not shown), which are custom janitor permission groups. When a user is added as staff, you will select their roles. A user can have multiple roles per board. So if you were going to make a janitor that could only sticky/unsticky threads, or lock/unlock, or whatever -- you could arrange that. If Janitor A was a stickier, Janitor B was a locker, you could have Janitor C that was both. By default, you can assign a staff to just be a Janitor, who has all the permissions a board owner does minus the ability to touch the config. This is ALL DONE in the back-end, it just needs a user interface. :---DDD
Two additional things worth pointing out:
1) The "User Info" button on this screenshot goes to nowhere. I have no clue what I want to do in terms of profiles. We'll cross that bridge when we get there because there is no precedent set forth and it might get taken out. To be absolutely clear, I do not want a traditional community profile page. If anything, it'll be a name, a "PM me" link, and maybe a list of boards they manage. That's about all I want, if even that.
2) I will be adding a "Merge Accounts" link that will allow you to combine user data, roles, board ownership, etc together. This is for people who own multiple boards on different accounts currently after the import.
Any thoughts?
Inline audio and video support
See:
https://infinitydev.org/mu/thread/11#15
I've added support for a few different file types. MP3s will convert to MPGAs (the non-proprietary format), so be aware of that. The inline player is somewhat smarter than it is on 8ch. It will check to see if your browser can play file types before trying to inline them, and if it cant, it will trigger a download.
If you upload an audio file with a thumbnail (i.e. you see cover art in your Windows Explorer), that will be its thumbnail.
You can also upload SWF files.
I'll expand upon this feature soon.
A proposition about tripfag cancer
I am not sure if posting this on this board or /operate/ would be more appropriate.
I am reposting this from /b/, it's about tripcodes.
________
Trips are sometimes important, for example if someone is posting a long greentext story or if someone is giving advice, you get the idea.
I have a very limited understanding of cryptography but I know how tripcodes work on a very basic level. A "password" is input and a function, known as a hash function, turns the input to random letters and numbers. Obviously this function is the same for every thread on /b/, that means input 1234 generates the same output on all threads.
An overwhelming majority of /b/ dislikes tripfags, however, tripcodes are a valuable tool when needed, as specified before. My proposed solution to this is as follows, every new thread created on /b/ also has it's unique hash function for generating tripcodes. Since tripcodes, when used for legitimate reasons, are only useful in one thread. Tripfags now cannot identify their superior selves in every thread since anyone can now claim to be any tripfag.
What do you think? Does something like this take a long time to program and implement? is hotwheels lazy?
Tl;dr: make tripcodes unique to threads i.e tripcode input "1234" generates "fhvt&!4" in one thread while generating "hkug!!" in another thread.
________
Does that sound like a good idea?
pls at least fix this in next
I don't expect any more bugfixes from wheelman since we are switching to next anyway so here is the bug complaint thread for things that have never been fixed even after having been mentioned multiple times on /operate/ that you hope will be avoided in next.
Adding LOL with 2* on both sides still breaks the site, the same probably happens with other filters as well.
Some filters just don't seem to work or to only take effect when the thread is opened, I have tried multiple different phrases from the gamergate thread copypasta and the subject line but the thread is till being shown.
Filters don't work at all in the catalog.
The watchlist is a mess, the threads only have numbers instead of the subject line most of the time, sometimes you get a reply window after opening one, sometimes you don't. The name of the bookmarked thread changes to weird combinations of phrases from the thread when bookmarking a post that used the subject field. Also, having to scroll way up just to put a post on the watchlist is annoying, there should be an option to have the watch thread option scroll with you.
Clicking the filename to download the file with that name works almost nowhere.
Certain themes make parts of the website unreadable, dark for example breaks the catalog when hovering over a thread and parts of the options menu.
Oh, also, one thing I noticed just now.
IF YOU ARE TRYING TO UPLOAD A FILE AND THE CAPTCHA CHANGES HALFWAY THROUGH BECAUSE OF A SLOW CONNECTION,THE POST WILL BE REJECTED.
PhotoDNA like post filtering
Could we get something like PhotoDNA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhotoDNA) for Infinity Next?
Working on new CAPTCHA system
A lot of people have pointed out that the captcha system on Infinity Next is flawed. This is primarily because of how it handles solutions.
1. Request a document.
2. Captcha is generated and solution is stored to your session.
3. Answer is provided.
4. Answer is checked and reject/accept actions handled.
The problem with this is: if you open a second tab with a captcha, it throws out the previous answer, making perfectly valid solutions suddenly invalid if you tab back. This also means that if your cookie is thrown out (or if you don't have one), then your session may be lost and you have no solution at all. In either scenario, you receive an erroneous "The captcha was not answered correctly" reply and that's very frustrating.
So, copypaste/hotwheels was kind enough to write up a new captcha system in base PHP that I'm now translating into Laravel's architecture as a plugin. This is my third time building a new package for Laravel. Although none of them are "release candidate" yet, I'll eventually redress this technology and polish them off as I continue to develop. Since I'm technically a FOSS development group now, I figure it'd be cool if I opened up some of my assets as independent systems other people might make use of.
The way the new captcha system will work is:
1. Request a document.
2. Captcha is generated and solution is stored in the database.
3. Your captcha is provided with a hash ID.
4. Answer is provided alongside hash.
5. Hash is used to pull answer from DB and is checked against input.
This really simple change makes the software more palatable to no-JS no-Cookie browsers (Tor). The captcha can also be provided with a URL like this:
/cp/captcha/300x72/c0e1c5ceddea124b2f606d310b45157449670adb.png
And that way, if you're using JS to render a new captcha or you've opened an inline document that requires a captcha, the hash can be pulled from the URL string and reliably set.
All of this will be open source as well and a companion library provided with the software.
webm support live
Webm uploading and thumbnailing added. I'm going to add JavaScript to handle inline streaming tomorrow.
See:

Thanks for the support all. <3
Bitcoins -- the Final Solution to the Financial Institution Problem
Over the last 3 months I have received a very generous $3,200 from my Stripe checkout form that is present on the Infinity Development website. This week, Stripe chose to close my account without warning or chance to negotiate.
The only thing close to an explanation they gave is this.
> When we reviewed your account we determined that your business posed an elevated risk and, as a result, I'm afraid we won't be able to work together any longer.
This is in spite of the fact that over the course of 3 months I have received zero disputes placed against me in the ~100 individual donations I received. This decision came immediately after receiving a $250 donation that was allegedly refunded, though the contributor says he had not received a return in his statements 2 days after the fact.
Although the issue of merchants shutting down payment methods to 8chan is not even close to a new issue, I (and many others) found myself shocked that would close a completely legitimate crowdsourcing campaign because a specific website might end up using it. The audacity of these attacks leave me dumbfounded and questioning all the conventional wisdom I have learned in my life regarding the banks. If Visa or MasterCard decide you don't deserve money, there's little you can do to get it besides receive it in person, unless you deal in Bitcoins.
Most people are scared of using Bitcoins because they don't understand it. Don't worry, you don't have to.
How to be able to buy, sell, send, and receive bitcoins in 30 minutes with no experience
How to make trolling and raiding a unpleasant experience
It is a open secret, that the worst offenders on Imageboards rather evade their bans than sitting them out which makes IP bans futile for dealing with this type of user.
This is yet another instance of the iterated Prisoners dilemma where someone decided to rather defect than cooperate with everyone. My idea therefor is making the software defect on the User. These could be little things like forgetting the file, making posting take forever or simply ignoring all interaction with Captcha systems.
Later you could add custom annoyances like a different CSS, random noises or a custom name with a certain trip added to the post.
It could work just like normal bans. Globally, it should be only possible with known free proxies, since a user who posts without one or has to pay for his is more likely to play fair.
I also expect this thread being shitposted to dead by users who don't want such a feature put into place because they hate the idea of their actions having consequences.
Anonymous Volunteers
Currently, volunteers are not anonymous to each other. They can follow each other's UIDs. Could there be a feature to hide this? Maybe signing into your board controls could give you a separate UID from your normal anon posts? The goal is to make it so only the board owner can tell who is who.
Legacy Boards
It's been discussed many times before and I wonder what Josh's stand is on this issue is.
Most users of this website have migrated here from some other website, mostly 4chan. Legacy boards are those using the same names as the equivalent boards on 4chan. Even if the moderation of these boards is bad, alternatives had little success, simply because people like the old names. By preventing board names in Infinity Next to be under 4 characters, this problem could be solved.
Sidebars
So someone in /operate/'s last thread suggested that we add sidebars to the right hand side of the page. This suggestion stems from the presence of gutter space created by capping the posts to be 70% of the browsers maximum width, with a minimum distance of 300px fro the right-hand page border. The remaining space allows for the post form to glide up and down without overlapping content and also the ads.
Anon said that this space was wasted so the last thing I've done tonight is try and play around with this gutter space and add custom text data a la Reddit. This is really hard to get looking right. I'm going to attach my attempt, but I think it looks really bad.
Input welcome.
Likes/upboats
Something that bugs me about the whole likes/upvotes thing.
Image boards already have these, they're called replies. When someone responds to a thread without saging that's an upvote.
When someone replies to a post they're effectively giving that post the image board version of an upvote. When someone sages or "dubs" spams that's downvoting.
Further on to this because replies act as upvotes on image boards it encourages the entire "bait" culture.
