5dac58 No.116

Over the last 3 months I have received a very generous $3,200 from my Stripe checkout form that is present on the Infinity Development website. This week, Stripe chose to close my account without warning or chance to negotiate.

The only thing close to an explanation they gave is this.

> When we reviewed your account we determined that your business posed an elevated risk and, as a result, I'm afraid we won't be able to work together any longer.

This is in spite of the fact that over the course of 3 months I have received zero disputes placed against me in the ~100 individual donations I received. This decision came immediately after receiving a $250 donation that was allegedly refunded, though the contributor says he had not received a return in his statements 2 days after the fact.

Although the issue of merchants shutting down payment methods to 8chan is not even close to a new issue, I (and many others) found myself shocked that would close a completely legitimate crowdsourcing campaign because a specific website might end up using it. The audacity of these attacks leave me dumbfounded and questioning all the conventional wisdom I have learned in my life regarding the banks. If Visa or MasterCard decide you don't deserve money, there's little you can do to get it besides receive it in person, unless you deal in Bitcoins.

Most people are scared of using Bitcoins because they don't understand it. Don't worry, you don't have to.

How to be able to buy, sell, send, and receive bitcoins in 30 minutes with no experience

Step 1. Find a Web Client

copypaste has compiled a comprehensive list of web-based bitcoin operators here. If you do not have a bank account capable of dealing in USD, you can find alternatives to what I am suggesting here.

https://8ch.net/bitcoin.html

To everyone else, you can register using this link. This URL I am providing is a referal URL, and Coinbase promises $25USD in Bitcoins for every person who spends $100 in buying Bitcoins after opening the account.

https://www.coinbase.com/join/Jawsh

Coinbase is what I personally use. They're a very reputable Bitcoin dealer and their user interface is braindead easy. Setting up an account with them is less annoying than setting up a PayPal.

Step 1, click my link (or find your own provider) and sign up.

Step 2. Identify yourself

Bitcoin providers like Coinbase require some identifying information (like phone numbers) to hold you accountable. If they did not do this, it would be trivial to empty bank accounts out into BTC and then never be heard from again. By identifying yourself, you increase your BTC transfer limits. Signing up for 2-factor authentication also protects your account.

Step 3. Link your Bank

You've done this before. Either for PayPal, or for linking your bank accounts to each other for transfers, or when you pay bills or credit cards online. It's the exact same thing with Bitcoins.

There's usually two ways of doing this. One is to surrender your online information and have the system automatically authenticate you in 30 seconds, or you can do it manually by having the system send you two less-than-one-dollar amounts that you can later input to verify your ownership.

Step 4. Buy some fuggin Bitcoin

The next step is to give Coinbase your money in exchange for Internet magic money. Just click the buy button. Be aware your limit is based upon how much information you've given Coinbase.

Step 5. Send Bitcoins

The process of receiving bitcoins takes a week for legal reasons. Don't worry, ride it out. We aren't going to disappear in that time, hopefully.

Once your freedom coins end up in your wallet and you've been liberated from the banks, you have a few choices of how you can spend this money.

If you're using Coinbase, you can just use this link to send me coins.

https://www.coinbase.com/jawsh

If you want to send me Bitcoins for Infinity Next, you may also use this code in the Send box.

1Ah4wk9WRfhK5gtbgUyGrJriqiXHgyyoJZ

If you want to support only copypaste, you can send Bitcoins directly to him with this address.

1NpQaXqmCBji6gfX8UgaQEmEstvVY7U32C (from the top of the page)

Alternatively, if you would like to donate to Infinity Next but would choose not to send it to me directly, you can note in your Bitcoin transfer that you would like copypaste to give me your donation as work is done and he will oblige that request. If I die, go insane, or abandon the project, the money will be allocated to someone else.

And that's all there is to it. Congrats, you know how to buy and send Bitcoins and are officially a hacker.

Thank you for supporting 8chan despite the stupendous set of obstacles that have been levied against us. We will attempt to find ways to allow traditional bank users to send money in the future, but really, come on. Learn how to use Bitcoins already.

Bitcoins are not stable, I don't see it as a good investment tbh. Do you guys immediately exchange bitcoin to american currency? Or is it that the ones that host the domain and servers accept bitcoin?

So far it has had a pretty consistent track record. First it stays fairly steady for a while, then the media starts making articles on it. Then as people buy it the price shoots up. Then eventually there's a price crash, but in the end the price will be higher than it was before. It'll be fairly steady for a while now, but sometime later it might shoot up again.

I don't know man. A general rule is that you can't predict this kind of shit.

I'll wait for the next silkroad to get shut down by the feds, then throw all my money in bitcoin (^: . I should've bought it during that time when it was $32 per bit.

With coins.ph, you can sell your bitcoins to the website for a voucher worth cash that you can redeem in any pawnshop -- and there's many of them.

The thing that makes bitcoins very strong is that it's not centralized. When a transaction occurs, it's observed by many different blockchains. No one blockchain can disrupt the others. Anyone can set up a blockchain.

You need cash Josh, when are you going to have another sticky on /v/ or some other board?

The dev timer is deceptively low at the moment because my alternative ways of accepting donations don't add to it.

I'm going to build up a few pretty front-end features first and then I'll arrange something a little bit nicer than just stickying a thread on /v/.

>The dev timer is deceptively low at the moment because my alternative ways of accepting donations don't add to it.

you may want to fix that sooner rather than later, i mean i rarely visit reddit these days but i recently popped by r/kotakuinaction

and there was a thread pleading for people to donate to infinity next since the timer was close to running out. i'd say that its best

to prevent things like that from happening, since they have clear effects on users confidence. you especially don't want things like that

popping up on r/kotakuinaction of all places since they're tremendously spastic and hyper-reactionary.

>I'm going to build up a few pretty front-end features first

whats gonna be first on this list?

>then I'll arrange something a little bit nicer than just stickying a thread on /v/

any ideas on what this might be?

Yeah, you should really want to avoid doing that. You could end up with people thinking you're trying to jew them out of money when you don't really need any, which would destroy your credibility and make the casual faggot passing by think you're a scam artist.

That's not to mention that if GG or some other 8chan-centric suddenly drama blows up again you also run the risk of journos with an axe to grind spinning a narrative around the broken timer in order to destroy your image and further harm the site.

There's not just one new Silk Road, there's a shit-ton of them out there on the onion net now. It's like piracy, there's never going to be many more crackdowns now and any that do happen can easily get replacements. There is zero danger of federal anti-drug shit causing a price crash in bitcoin.

Biggest danger to bitcoin is whether transaction costs can still stay low even when there's no more bitcoins to mine.

there is, on the basis that the original silk road going down triggered a selloff, crashing the price

mind you I'm not against bitcoin but when a single site, like the original silk road, gets a disproportionately large share of all transactions it exposes the larger system to it getting v&'d and crashing it

That's interesting. The nonce is a one-time token from the Payment Processor. I wonder how you didn't get one.

I was using a Visa debit card from my bank.

Seriously, thanks for the guide - it's the most straightforward best-written one I've seen yet. I don't want to hear 100 separate options for wallets and this and that, I want some shit that just werks. If it's 10x more secure, with 10x as much the accountability, I'll go that route rather than do it all DIY and risk getting robbed.

d99d12 No.766

I just wanted to donate but now you convinced me to invest in bitcoin. Do you have any advice for buying lots of coins?? I hear the price fluctuate everyday. Should I watch the price like stock market or what?
