18128d No.1295

A counter showing the number of times a board has been favorited.

892c74 No.1297

Favorites are handled by JavaScript and there is no reliable, internal way of being able to determine how many people consider that board their favorite without an account system.

Isn't this just another form of upboats?

bf8d60 No.1314

Advertisments and banners should host unpopular boards.

Perhaps even ocassionally a board would host a random thread from an unpopular board.

We need more ways to make people post on other boards as opposed to dumping everything on /b/ as an /all/ board and calling it a day.

It is, except worse because it's upvoting boards instead of threads and posts. It would affect anyone who sorted it by the number of favourites and anyone could misuse this very easily with bots or with a raid. While I do want some way for good boards to get noticed and stay noticed this isn't the way to do it.

I thought about a recommendation system, but that would only recommend you similar boards to the ones you browse instead of completely different boards (and another downside would be that of you browsed /pol/ it would recommend you /leftypol/, and everyone knows that would piss /pol/acks off).

I think the best way is frequent free advertisement for low population, at least one month old and still active boards. This way it won't advertise dead boards and troll/raid boards. Board owners should get another item in the "board asset" page for advertisement that has a default image with the board name and board title in it which you could change to a custom one.

Or just an "edit advertisement" page link in the "board configuration" page, or whatever as long as it's something like that.

You can't or shouldn't try to force people to use boards they don't want to.

This.

Also, it's vulnerable to abuse and makes the website unecessarily bulkier.

Stats like pph, UIP, active users are better than "likes."

If you want to pay for ads you can. I'm not going to use ad space for small boards for free, though. I don't think that'd jive well with the softserv system. The other ways I've come up with (overboard, recent activity panels) should do a good job of streamlining niche content alongside major boards.

We'll have to get more data from that before I decide to go any further.

For what purpose?

I could easily abuse it to make my board look better.

We've already got PPH and active users to see how popular a board really is.
