I'm curious how people would feel about thread tags. This is a system that exists on quite a few formats. It's primary advantage is allowing people to filter content based on what tags they wish to see or not see.

For instance, the big boards like /v/ and /a/ have respective meta boards, which seems a bit disorganized. You could instead have [Meta] posts. Though, a better solution to this specific issue may be just to have sub-boards.

Another example would be this very board. I've plugged in some simple CSS to show you what I mean. This thread is a [Suggestion], but you would also want to filter by [Updates] or [Complaints].

What do you guys think?

Sub-boards would be better.

Seems like a good idea to me. It was pretty much the only way reddit was usable at certain times. When a major event happened there would instantly be 10 threads on it and all of them would get upvoted. Not as big of a problem with a small imageboard, but finding threads easier is always a good thing in my opinion.

Probably. My issue with that is I don't know how I'd do the URL structure. We'd have to end up blacklisting a ton of board names for that. Maybe even put it on a whitelist.

>>186

That's what I'd hope. I don't use reddit ever but in systems where there are tags I've had no problems with them.

Another person has said that maybe it'd be in the realm of feature bloat, which is a fair point. We don't want to add too much random shit. IMO even 8chan has too much native JS right now.

Glad to see Reddit Next is coming along well

I'm not very fond of this idea, personally, but if it were implemented, would it be possible to browse multiple tags at the same time, like Suggestions+Complaints?

I think its an interesting idea and we should definitely try it once everything else is done to see how it goes.

> would it be possible to browse multiple tags at the same time, like Suggestions+Complaints?

This would be needed.

Seems like InfinityNext is just missing adding the >>x when you click a post and to fix the CSS to be good enough to move there

and on that note, would it be possible to view everything except for a specific category, like -Meta?

and what would be done about people misusing tags, like criticism under suggestions?

If this was added, would there be an option in the settings to disable it, if people don't like this?

also: what's up with the 503s? Why so many?

>also: what's up with the 503s? Why so many?

Varnish appears to be a piece of shit.

I'm turned off to the idea now. I think people have made some strong points regarding how this would affect the feel of the board and add feature bloat. Thanks for the input.

We already have the thread subject field. If people wanted to use tags, they'd do [TAG HERE] already.

Post Tags are very helpful in Reddit, they make it easier to find content that you want see on big subreddits (default subs are full of shit on the front page). But I don't know if this feature is really needed on imageboards.

If it wouldn't be too much of a hassle, I guess it's worth a try. Just to see if there would be any improvement.

Yeah, people just need to make better use of the subject field

The subject field is good enough as proven on /a/ and /v/ which meta threads usually have the same title.

If you don't know the real purpose of the meta boards, I suggest you to lurk more.

Actually, I would like this feature. I could then just sort the catalog and skip trash that I don't want to read.

I feel thread and image tags are a good idea.

59dbb3 No.1429

I implemented a tag system. Try it >>>/operate/38974

saged for not disturbing this board.

96a0d7 No.2949

I like this idea

2487a7 No.2965

Exactly, this can already be accomplished via the filter system in the subject field. You could "filter" something to be pinned at the top of the catalog or index, or filter it to stand out with a certain color using your little thread ribbon thing.

Tags are just an overengineered solution and another field that we don't need.

2487a7 No.2966

>>2965

Also, actually bumpable suggestion: maybe their could be an overboard specific filter based on board tags? That would actually be cool. Write that down, cutie, it might be a killer feature, and of course you might want to have a personal board blacklist.

2487a7 No.2967

>>2966

Oh, nevermind, come to think of it you had already sort of thought about it with your multiboard functionality you had planned, but maybe not exactly with tags. Oh well, definitely keep it in mind I guess.

For example, I added the tag #CatChan and I can grep them from lainchan. Of course, you can aggregate them from overboard. But 8ch is too slow, I recommend you to test them in lainchan or 4chan.

5785a0 No.2988

Perhaps it should have tags provided by boardowners. For example most boardowners would make a [meta] tag, /v/ could have a [gamergate] tag, /pol/ would have an [xpol], [britpol] etc tag.

A bit feature creep, I guess, and it might only isolate established community threads such as gamergate threads on /v/ and metathreads would get much more attention and shitposting.

5785a0 No.2989

>>194

Also a good point

Perhaps remove subject fields and replace with tags. No-one fucking uses subject fields unless it's a recurring thread anyway.

364989 No.3443

dumb idea tbh fam
