7ddaba No.2633

To dissuade users from bumping their own threads or threads they like redundantly (particularly on smaller boards where this is actually an issue of contention rather than an almost imperceptible triviality) I propose a limit to a thread's ability to be bumped by the same person several times in a row based on i.p. hash set by the B.O.

For example, as B.O. you could set it so that a thread won't bump if the last three posts have the same i.p.

>but what about proxies

What I'm suggesting is just a minor deterrence, unfortunately there is no cure for autism. I think putting any little flourish you can to dissuade shitposting in whatever forms it has the potential to take in an unobtrusive way can never be a bad thing.

dumb idea

d38fc2 No.2640

Nope. This is a horrible idea. Bump locking is enough.

Perhaps you're right but I feel like it would be a good means of combating board sliding on faster boards as well.

Maybe some of you B.O.s love to micromanage all of your users posts and threads but I don't. In particular I don't want to have to bump lock somebody else's thread because some eccentric takes a shine to it and starts bumping it redundantly every 3 hours or something. Why should I bump lock an innocent OP's thread, making it so I'm officially ending the thread even for anyone else that may want to contribute to it later, because of someone else's poor behavior?

I also don't think it's necessarily behavior worth banning someone over when it's kind of a gray area. Hands off moderation supplemented with sweeping reforms is best in most instances I feel.

8chan's policy of allowing tor and proxies also means I have to be as diplomatic as possible with my users, particularly the retarded ones, or I stand the chance of exacerbating things to a level that I'm not able to handle.

that's what board volunteers are for

>board sliding

There's going to be an option to autosage threads after a certain period of days automatically.

That should deal with threads only OP cares about depending on the BO.

Example of the hotpocketry you're capable of

I'm not from /pol/, I've just had users literally try and slide my board as a means of protesting my mostly hands-off moderation.

>>2960

I like that idea

My suggestion would be a certain number of days after its last post and an "autosage" based on the "Early 404" mechanic. This will do though, beggars can't be choosers.

Josh... no.

Literally just a fancier word for "duration." Put away that thesaurus.

Fuck off cunt. That's the use that assholes in IRC were using so it's the word I used as well. I just wanted to make people happy so I gave them exactly what they asked for in the words they used.
