So a lot of people are rightfully pessimistic as the migration did not take hold. I'm not too thrilled about copypaste calling it a failure in the title because it gives people a poor understanding of what has happened.
The actual data transfer was mostly successful, but the software's ability to interact with the database following the migration was sluggish and inadequate. This was a two-fold issue: Laravel, our framework, used an inappropriate query for PgSQL in certain instances that was 100x up to 1000x slower than the MySQL equivalent. PHP also poorly implements PgSQL through its own drivers. An engineer who is responsible for writing large portions of PgSQL has said he may work on a formal commit to PHP, but in the mean time, I have been developing work arounds.
The outcry is disproportionate to the size of the setback. This is not game-ending or a fundamental problem that would take months to fix; we have options. I've opted to continue fixing and improving Laravel's support for PgSQL. If that cannot work, we can simply import to MySQL the next time we do this (if we do choose to update the shard), but that's less than ideal, as PgSQL is very fast when set up correctly.
My attachment is a calendar. I will be in Japan as a part of a 2channel Christmas group that I have been invited to. I don't know what we're doing, but it's probably booze and Japanese whores, two things I'm not particularly interested in. I'll probably continue developing over this period.
Today, I have forked Laravel's framework and made a series of commits. I have been systematically destroying PgSQL errors as they've cropped up, and now I am unable to create errors. That's not to say the site is completely usable yet. Although I have been able to successfully post and navigate, the site is very slow because I have failed to properly index the 3,000,000 row Posts table. This is my next goal.
The other additional problem is how the permission table builds permissions and I would say this is probably the largest issue as of right now. Quite simply, the way I am doing permissions works very well with a small data set, but since we now have 11,000 roles it is extremely slow to build the finalized mask. I haven't worked out a plan to replace this, and it will probably take more time than the aforementioned optimizations. This is the big baddie right now and it will be addressed. When it has been addressed, the site should be usable -- and hopefully, quite fast.
That just about sums up the total problems left. I am still extraordinarily optimistic and believe that we can transition before the New Year. If the site is significantly stabilized before then, we will begin moving more adaptable communities like /sp/ over to get a feel for how the site handles load.

Maybe. I don't know if I want to bother with sitting through all that shit again. It takes like 12 hours. It may or may not be faster with old data already there. Furthermore, I don't know how I'd preserve issues with the data now that new posts have been made.

I think my biggest gripe is that you're posting in different threads and being non-transparent with your (lack of) progress. Hiccups happen, though you should really be chastised for not testing properly, but what users want is to not feel like they're in limbo about what's going on.

SELECT * FROM "posts" WHERE "posts"."post_id' = ANY (VALUES ('144444'::BIGINT), ('144445'::BIGINT), ('144446'::BIGINT));
OR, it uses ::TEXT instead, but only if there is any non-numeric number detected or number that is larger than a BIGINT. Definitely a hack, but it's super fast (+6000 VALUES handles in 60ms on my local), which is more than enough for now.

>Freech
Yep this is where the majority of the shilling is coming from.
How to spot a freech shill:
1. they will never argue technical merits
2. they will always concern troll
3. they will try to put the blame on 1 person/board and get the entire community attacking that person/board which is why the doom of the site is always 100% josh or hotwheels.
4. they will always argue that the site is beyond saving
5. enforcing rules on 8chan is rulecuckery
6. enforcing rules on freech is ok
7. they will spam meta threads on every board if they have to to get enough users on their side
How Josh should respond to freech shills:
1. Don't
2. If you really must don't bother engaging in their arguments attack their hypocrisy. They fled 8chan because of an "impotent" furfag spammer, but will implement captcha and ban the furfag spammer on freech. This shows they are even more impotent than the spammer. Attack the fact that they created their own irc circlejerk
I am the greatest ally of Josh, but he probably doesn't know it :^). I was a part of /int*/ so I can recognize the shilling tactics of the ones that fled to freech easily. Josh should let me and the ones that can see it BTFO them and send them back. Josh should focus on talking to anons that genuinely care about the site.

No, it failed.
You should have tested with what you were going to roll out onto, not just with what you had has your setup. If you did that, you would have seen the perf issue before the migration.
Same with the UID. You should have looked at the rollout server a long time ago and made sure you knew how it was set up, then emulated that setup, with the right UID on your dev system.
TL;DR - It failed. It happens. Lesson learned. Do it right this time.

It may not be worth the time it takes to discern "keep" from "toss"; it would probably take longer than pulling it into the new DB, so yeah, copying everything is unfortunately the best way probably.

The bad CSS doesn't bother me, what bothers me instead is how you cry "THE MODS WILL FIX IT" in regards to the CSS but you've increased the complexity of cssing the board from a simple 200 line CSS to a 1000 line monstrosity leaving the end users to rely on people who actually can into complicated css to fix it for them.

Josh,
>If the site is significantly stabilized before then, we will begin moving more adaptable communities like /sp/ over to get a feel for how the site handles load.
TL;DR:
Can we volunteer boards to be moved?
Blather follows:
The larger boards might be more useful here, but a smaller, slower board could help test.
If you move the user threads and posts over to be as close a mirror as possible we'd really be up for this. Even the current state is OK, and will be for a week or so.
We would not mind being a bit of a guinea pig test platform if we could say goodbye to all the 404s and 502s and whatnot, even in the face of further occasional development weirdness.
If you are willing to take volunteer boards I'll put it to the user base for a day or two of feedback just to be sure. (I'm pretty sure they'd be OK with it, but it's best to be polite with this.)
We don't care about minor wemb glitches not making it over (we're not big users of such), nor do we care if some of the board assets fail to migrate. The board staff can handle that.

I made a tomorrow theme off of your yotsuba. changing colors is not "rudimentary" since you have the board split up into five sections, each section having its own color selection and figuring out which value changes which section is largely trial and error.
secondly, that's just for recoloring your shit. Doing anything else, anything at all, and you're pretty much relying on css mavens like the /nexttest/ guy or the /miku/ guy.

No you stupid nigger, you used /meta/ and /operate/ as examples of the community failing when it was a complete lack of quality control. HW made /operate/ to try to do what /meta/ failed at doing and changed absolutely nothing about his approach, and the same fucking thing happened. So his response, rather than trying something new, is to sit in IRC all fucking day and act like he's far too important for you if you try to approach him with anything and smear the community as impossible to deal with when his approach was shit to begin with.
/meta/ and /operate/ being dumps are because of HW's failings from a community management standpoint and his "muh freedumbz" approach to moderation, even if the board's supposed to be one where good conversations are had.
But who am I kidding, someone else explained it in two sentences and you took it in a completely different direction.

>I took a different approaches to thinks that annoyed me personally about the site.
Frankly, I think this was probably why people are mad. Everybody liked the site that they had. I drive a standard car, it makes things more difficult, but I like doing it simply because I've become accustomed to it. If I took it to a mechanic for an oil change and he converted it to an automatic because he didn't personally like standard, I'd be pretty pissed.
I don't think I need to explain how that analogy applies to all of this.
Why haven't you just shrugged your shoulders and promised to change the front end back when you're done with the back end?
It would probably be a little water on the fire at least.
Maybe its a stupid question, but like I said, I know nothing of programming and I wouldn't know if there were issues preventing this.
