This surprises nobody that understands how software development works!

With very few exceptions, usually leaning on the smaller side of software implementations, rewriting the entire codebase of a program proves not only to be a much more massive undertaking than the programmer expects, but proves to show just how little of the current codebase they understood!

Complaints of code rot, or of rat's nests of seemingly random fixes and unorganized code structures make complete rewrites enticing to the overconfident. What they don't realize is that almost all of those are necessary to be replicated in the current rewrite! Not only that, but countless new bugs are going to need to be addressed! If they were complaining about not knowing where to start by implementing new features in the code base, or complaining about not knowing what code is necessary or not, how can they hope to transfer a working knowledge of the codebase into an entirely new one? Years of effort, experiential knowledge, and weird quirks reside in the old system that will simply be thrown out to be repeated in the new software. All the while, the current codebase rots and users become fed up with the functionality of the product.

So remember: refactor, don't rewrite!

Rebuilding from the ground up can work perfectly fine. When it's not rushed. The proper way to do it is to make the existing software work and then take your time writing the new software and testing it properly. 8chan was never in the proper place for a complete rewrite and this rushed out and untested new software is evidence of it. 4chan, as much as everyone here dislikes it, is actually in a place where it could rewrite the entire software competently and test it properly.

It really should have been obvious this would happen once the dev started excusing his problems with "The new software may be shit, but the old one is shit too!" instead of addressing them.

Before you say, "Just hire a great developer, DUH!!!" Shut the fuck up and question whether or not any professional-level developer would want to be associated with this website, its admin, or its userbase all? The answer is:

In the highly SJW-infiltrated tech world, especially! That fat methwhale randi harper or one of her goons would catch wind of a dev who was supporting "free speech online" (equivalent to supporting pedos and beheading, then raping kittens) and that guy's career would've been dead in the fucking water unless he wanted to move to nip-land and work on projects in a foreign country - as Josh and HW had to fucking do, because they were blacklisted and blackballed everywhere in this country, and through all of the US's online payment providers.

Seriously, our options were fucking limited. What you learned in college about the "best way to do things" is straight from the same people who write fucking instruction manuals that say, "Once you plug the device in and it's working" without ever considering that in the real world things do not always work that simply.

Anyone you pay. Outsourced webdev firms build websites for literal CP peddlers, hostile governments, libelous ad campaigns, etc.. It's easy too, there are even several services handling currency conversion payroll if you want to skip the middleman, overhead is usually between 2-5%.
