See:

https://infinitydev.org/mu/thread/11#15

I've added support for a few different file types. MP3s will convert to MPGAs (the non-proprietary format), so be aware of that. The inline player is somewhat smarter than it is on 8ch. It will check to see if your browser can play file types before trying to inline them, and if it cant, it will trigger a download.

If you upload an audio file with a thumbnail (i.e. you see cover art in your Windows Explorer), that will be its thumbnail.

You can also upload SWF files.

I'll expand upon this feature soon.

000000 No.866

>MP3s will convert to MPGAs

Will that cause quality loss?

197d42 No.867

>>866

I don't believe so, no. If I'm wrong I'll correct it. I think the change is in name alone.

479eb7 No.869

I think there is some bug with the audio inline/attachments, sometimes it doesn't show the maximum length of the song and doesn't let you move the seekbar/slider to the end of the song until it finishes it naturally.

479eb7 No.870

>>869

For example https://infinitydev.org/mu/thread/11 post number 23 has this problem.

Having this problem as well. Also, tried uploading a couple mp3s with embedded cover art (https://infinitydev.org/mu/thread/11#26 and https://infinitydev.org/mu/thread/11#27) and neither show the art as a thumbnail in the thread like the Cash song does. Downloaded them from the thread and changed the extension back to mp3 afterwards and the album art was still visible, so it wasn't being stripped on upload.

>>866

You can just straight up change the extension from blah.mpga to blah.mp3 after you download it, .mpga is just a different extension for the same mp3 file (like .jpg vs .jpeg). A different codec isn't being used.

Yeah, I'm confirming issues too. It works perfectly locally but on the remote server everyone seems to be having issues, myself included. I think the problem is that large files upload in chunks and as a result the server interprets them as "application/octet-stream" types (bin files) as opposed to music files.

Looking into it.

197d42 No.874

Okay, it should be a bit better now. I'm learning a lot more about audio files than I intended to for this, haha.

479eb7 No.876

Is the problem fixed for any newly uploaded audio files? Because the problem still persists right now for the existing audio files.

197d42 No.877

>>876

The fixes won't apply retroactively, no. I'm just developing and testing as I go.

37ba27 No.878

>>874

Focus on .ogg and vorbis-type files.

(Because maybe you can implement embedded .ogg into images and create a player for playing them)

And then .mp3.

I honestly don't see the point it taking FLAC/ALAC/APE/WAV when they'll be too big to upload.

Also if this helps:

197d42 No.879

>>878

Do you know a place where I can get OGG video and music files? Like, freeware demo files? I haven't worked with them before.

37ba27 No.880

>>879

You can convert and record in .ogg using audacity. So maybe make your own test sounds to use.

Ripping on the other hand, I use dBpoweramp Music Converter since you can convert full albums quickly (as compared to audacity) to just about every audio format in the sea.

Free use demo files, I wouldn't have a clue. I would assume Xiph.org would have some

but I'm not seeing anything.

197d42 No.881

While I'm getting feedback on how file uploads work I'm going to begin working further into the post form. The next big commit will have ...

1) Post form controls.

2) Post preview.

3) Dropzone file uploading.

479eb7 No.883

>>881

>Post form controls.

What are these form controls exactly?

>Post preview.

Finally! I really wanted this feature to be implemented, it always annoys me when I don't know how the formatting will turn out for my posts.

40460c No.884

wikimedia commons has a wide array of multimedia files in ogg formats like vorbis and theora.

sound files: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Ogg_sound_files

video files: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Ogv_videos

also yes pretty much every software out there supports it. audacity, ffmpeg, ... etc

Don't forget about http://opus-codec.org/ though (just click on examples on the navigation bar on the left to get example files, you can make opus encodes also with ffmpeg, should work just fine)

just check the "use quick reply dialog" box > click on "open the quick reply dialog > click the "plus" in the top-right

Progress on this is actually going faster than I thought it would. I've already got the fundamental features down (async file uploading, skipping file uploads where file exists on serve) and am now improving the user interface and error handling.

bd2319 No.933

>>927

So how is spoiling and removing selected files going to work?

37ba27 No.934

>>927

>Error handling

Does that include warning of the upload limit BEFORE posting? Or just a counter to show how big the filesizes are combined.

I'm sure to make it future-proof (if your pipe dream ever comes to fruition) have the ability for board owners to set max filesize warnings but leaving it at 8mb by default.

>>933

This, can the user have the ability to individually spoil the images they upload instead of having 4 images spoiled?

>removing selected files

I assume it's going to be like the other types of systems. Hovering over the thumbnail will show an [X] on the top right of specific file. Clicking it would discard that file.

019cdc No.936

>>933

I'll add a button to the UI on the thumbnail overlays or something. I'm glad you reminded me, though.

>>934

>Does that include warning of the upload limit BEFORE posting? Or just a counter to show how big the filesizes are combined.

The page will not reset the form for any error. Even if the form fails to predict the error, which it will do 90% of the time, the post will stay loaded until you can get it to go through.

Concept of how the delete / spoiler feature looks on the new dropzone. If you don't have JS you're going to be restricted to all or none spoilering, but if you have JS it'll function like this.

I supposed it isn't needed in the case of one image.

b5710a No.951

>>945

I feel mine is better because in yours a user would have to scroll to access the "click to add" button after adding 4 files. I also don't see a way to set spoiler status.

>>947

Of course it's needed ... How do you access file #4 and beyond without it?

Scroll is set to auto so it doesn't appear unless you do actually need it.

And this is what it looks like with no files. I think it's really tidy.

742712 No.953

Can we either get an option to hide album covers, or replace the icon with the black vinyl CD thing, or something? I fucking hate inconsistency while scrolling threads, and now some songs have a blank file icon while others have an album with a disk coming out of it.

What if I gave them a faux cover art? Like, white 250x250 square with an infinity symbol and the word "MUSIC"?

How does it look now?

>I also don't see a way to set spoiler status.

I didn't bother to add that, because it'd just look like this >>944

>>952

My central issue with this right now is that it seems so inconsistent, I just can't think of any reason why you'd have its width extend to the edges of the post form.

It'd look much better if it looked like the above.

37ba27 No.956

>>954

Yee, I like this idea.

b5710a No.957

>>955

Oh I see, I didn't even notice that's what you had changed. I'll tweak it soon.

c648da No.962

>>954

That would work too. Or you could combine both ideas and write the file extension onto it instead of 'music'.

b5710a No.971

>>955

I played around with this and I'm sorry to say I don't like it. The dashed line around the text looks gaudy, and the padding compresses the size of thumbnails more than it needs to. Each thumbnail can be like, 20px larger in size this way and it looks much better.

The very early copy of my file uploader is live.

https://infinitydev.org/mu/thread/11

There's quite a few issues and user interface items that are less-than-perfect.

Just some things to be aware of.

- Some file types that shouldn't be able to be uploaded can now be.

- It's very unclear when a file has completed uploading.

- You can submit a post while files are uploading.

Though on the plus side, my MD5 has check works great.

>>872

>A different codec isn't being used.

so how would that be then any less connected to software patents when it is still mpeg-1 audio layer 3? you don't just change a file extension and that will make patents void

c7b52e No.991

>>962

I like putting the file extension or name of the codec somewhere on the default cover art (if the file has no cover art included)

In Gnome Web 3.16 it's not possible to change volume of audio files that are playing because the image is over the volume slider. Didn't yet test it with 3.18
