Ayy lmao I've never been on 8chan, so I don't really know if I'll stick around too long. What's up Chilebro?
No.13
>>12
Hey there.
Well, me neither. I still like the replying speed on 4chan so I don't go here very often.
But it also allows you to make your own boards, so it's very practical for niche stuff.
But I hope we can get more posters here. I know there's a bunch of collectors on /int/, and there's a lack of coin threads there.
No.14
>>13
Yeah, int seems like a board of obsessive collectors. After some other boards went downhill and I tried to quit 4chan ("Don't forget: You are here forever"), I started lurking int, the only reason I really went there was to collect the rare flags, haha.
Anything else you collect, or used to collect, or make a hobby out of?
No.15
>>14
Apart of fapping and posting in 4chan, just coins and banknotes.
I collected key chains from places I visited as a child, but it's not too active anymore.
And how about you? Anything else than coins that you like?
No.16
>>15
Well I used to have a lot more hobbies, mostly just collecting knickknacks and trinkets from thrift stores and antique stores.
For a very long while I had a real passion for rocks, minerals and fossils. Unfortunately I live in a part of Georgia where the only rocks are granite and red clay that takes a day to dig a few feet in. I found a few nice arrowheads, and when we visited family in the mountains of Kentucky I'd always find amazing fossils, some bones in rock and coral and shells. I went to Utah before to dig for trilobites, very cool. Mormons everywhere. I still like rockhounding but have little time for it between college and work.
No.17
>>16
That sound like fun, but maybe not too easy to display.
Did you ever found something big, or it was mostly small fossils?
No.18
>>17
Not too big, the problem is that sometimes you have a big cliff or a slab of flat rock the size of a table with something really nice in it, like a perfect shell or small bone (The bone may just be weird shaped coral), and the problem is how to take it out without breaking it.
I found one that just had a whole lot of broken shells in it that I put in the family garden, although it wasn't worth anything so I smashed it open to bits looking for cool parts. I also have a really nice rock the size of a dinner plate with a bone perfect in the center about the size of a chicken leg.
As for rockhounding I only found semiprecious rocks. Black tourmaline, amethyst, some very poor quality rubies and emeralds (which are super cheap, just curiosities really.)
No.19
>>17
Where do you live in Chile? It's mostly mountainous, and close to the ocean on the Pacific Rim. Any place close to the sea usually has a lot of sedimentary rocks that might have fossils, and mountains are famous for some nice minerals. You could look around for places to rockhound within a few hours from you, I bet.
No.20
>>19
I have been to the mountains and remember I found some minerals there. Copper, Iron, Lapis Lazuli
But no fossils here. The north it's a paradise for them, though. You could find some nice stuff just looking at the ground. But not many people want to go to the desert to look for some rocks.
No.21

>not many people want to go to the desert to look for some rocks
People pay money for it. Also, those mountains sound awesome, I wish I could dig around there.

No.22
>>21
You could dig up some fossils, but customs will probably rip your ass if they found with some of them.
But I don't think they could trouble you for some minerals.
No.23
>>22
Not really, unless you have something very important. When I came back from a trip to Chile they didn't check bags well, they're really lax. And even if they search it more detailed you can tell them they're just shells. Unless you walk out with a pterodactyl skellington they won't care. The biggest problem is weight.
When we left Utah we had a suit case filled with trilobite slabs. The suitcase weighed like 100 pounds so it drew a lot of attention, and even when they saw it was fossils they swabbed it for "particles," lol.
Basically don't dig this stuff up on a national park or private property, there are places that do cheap tours probably. And if you get drilled on it at customs demand to see the manager. They're just shells, and the fossil is only worth something to you because it's interesting.

Well, Easter Island is Chile, but the dollar it's generally accepted there. Did you bring back home some Chilean coins?

I'm more interested in coins, so I kept an eye out for them but wasn't able to find any. I think the set is just a fantasy set, they also sell ones for Katanga from 2013 (hasn't existed since the sixties).
I saw a few paper notes on sale but unfortunately didn't but a couple. Still kicking myself for it.
>>27
Hey Lithuaniabro, I don't know if I'd want to trade my best ones, but I have a few old Russian and Soviet coins. A couple of 1600s silver ones (only the size of a flattened pea and paper thin) and some early 1920s Soviet coins that still have the ornamental decoration and beautiful silver look, before the USSR went all boring and dull in their coins.
No.30
>>28
I can get you pretty much all of the regular ones, from 1961 or somewhere around. And those commemorative big ass roubles too.
>>29
You want to trade too???? We'll have an antique market soon, so tell me what are you interested in?
No.31
>>30
Maybe a few commemorative coins, like the one you posted, if they are cheap to get. The regular Kopecks coins are easy to get here so don't bother with those.
And maybe this one, if it isn't expensive.
How about Russian empire coins, are those easy to get?
What other countries could you get on that market?
No.32
>>30
What kinds of coins do you have? I sort of have an interest in the early 1920s and 1930s ones with propaganda on them, or modern Belorussian coins.
Really any coins from dictatorships are super interesting. Did the Soviets ever put Stalin on a coin?
No.33
>>31
Yes those commemorative ones are like 50 euro cents, not a big deal. Oh ok, bimetallic I can get you too. Empire copper is easy to get, though it's usually not in a good shape, and silver is silver.
For now I have these: http://en.numista.com/echanges/membre.php?id=41038
There's an even bigger market in a week, I'll get some dozens more. I can get pretty much all european coins.
>>32
Belorussians don't have coins in circulation afaik, only commemorative ones that are hella expensive. Interwar soviet ones are pretty rare and expensive too since soviets had a habit of melting coins down. I'm afraid I could get you only the postwar ones. And no, only Lenin or some jews :D
No.34
>>33
Well, if they cost 50c, get me a few ones at your choice. If you see a russian empire for an euro or less in decent shape, get one too.
And do you know what's the price of the cheapest kind of coins in that market?
And if you can, take some photos of the market.
No.35

Tell me which ones do you want. Bulgarian, romanian, swedish, macedonian, some british, czech, UAE, indian, kazakhstani, ukrainian and jewish coins in pictures are in circulation, cypriot, maltese, greek, belgian, danish, dutch, estonian, latvian, lithuanian, finnish, french, italian, german, yugoslavian and soviet coins are not. These are pre-war ones:
http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2363.html
http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces6401.html
I did not add some of lithuanian coins yet, couldn't find decent quality ones (I obviously did not keep enough of them, oh dear ;-;), also no tsarist ones or silver ones, 2expensive. These pictured, you can consider that a single coin cost me ~30 euro cents, according to my calculations. What could you offer in return?
No.36

I don't think I can get lithuanian interbellum silver, I seriously think you would be better off buying them abroad, here people all go muh heritage and ask for unreasonable prices. This one
http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces10417.html
I could find only for 3 euros today, that's bullshit. If you'd like, I could give you this one
http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1510.html
It's something like 70 euro cents. Next weekend I'll go meet my friends and do some swaps, I'll try to get some more pre-euro coins for you.
No.37

It's a nice looking market, thanks for the photos.
These are the coins from the pics I'm interested in.
And what about the bronze inter-war Litas, how much did they costed? And I can pay you for that silver Swedish coin, or would you like other silver in return? I could offer you something.
I can offer pretty much everything I have in Numista

Check all you want so I can save them.
No.38

Bronze cents you mean? They are actually even rarer than the silver litas coins, cost about the same as silver :D for whatever reason I don't know. Oh sure, if you have some south american silver then I'd be interested in that. Also, check those coins you want on my numista as well, I have them up there.

Welp, then don't mind those old Litas coins if they are too expensive.
I have a few silver ones, but not in great shape. Mostly all silver coins starts from 1,5 euros.
And about inter-war coins I have, don't worry about that. There was no war here, so you won't see a lot of changes in coins during that period.
Also, I checked the coins in the Numista swap page.

By type. I don't care about the year except for 1945 as a boundary :D pre-1945 coins hold much more value for me :D I guess it's just european psychology :D war changed everything :D so give pre-1945 if you have a possibility and if not then I don't care about the year. Also I added

Those are the coins you selected. My scanner don't want to work today, so I tried to get a good photo.
I'm missing one coin I can't find. And the 20 centavos Peru it's not in good shape, I can't read the year.
Also, you didn't select anything from Uruguay.

Oh and I'm also missing paraguayan coins, but those modern ones don't look good at all, maybe these with the lion are good

You can see there are some dents on the maltese cent, one of the rubles and the greek drachma, also bulgarian 50 stotinki are a bit scratched. And danish 2 ore is worn overall, soft aluminium. No.55

I just got the 2 pesos coin, but it's not in great condition. You'll see a lot of the old current Uruguayan coins, like the one on the left. But the new series it's not as common.
I'll see if I can find more of those, but it won't be easy, specially the 10 pesos one. Its face value goes for 30 euro cents, but I've seen it been sold for 3 euros.
>>54
Only if you can find better coins. I was worried about those dents on the rouble and the condition of the greek one, but maybe it's easier to find a better 10 lithuanian centu than the former coins. If you can find some replacements I'll be happy, if not, I'll be glad too.

No.68

I could use that, or baking soda. Where did you found it and how much did it cost?
Yeah, it's a nice number of coins for a swap. But I still need to confirm that Bolivian coin, and still I can't find that Argentinian coin.
About that Swedish silver coin, I can offer you those 500 pesos or one of those silver coins I showed you.
Also, do you think you could find those 2 and 5 litas?
No.69
>>68
Hm, I thought baking soda was only effective with silver, not anything else? I got it at a market, it was dug up by a lad I somewhat know. I have a metal detector too, though my coin finds are rather pathetic so far :DD It cost me 20 euro cents.
Okay, that bolivian coin is the most precious one for me :DD And if you can't find that argie bimetallic one, don't worry, I can choose something else that you have instead of it.
Hm, well those cinco centavos from 1916 seem nice, I'd like those. You said 500 pesos are worth a lot right, so I should get something more for it?
That would be a problem, I kept a few of those for myself, but didn't even think of keeping more for trading. Now I have no idea where to get them as they have a high value and people exchanged them to euros already. I'll be on lookout but for this swap I doubt I can get some.
No.70
>>69
I could try. But maybe i'll go for the warm water and detergent.
I always wanted to look for stuff with a metal detector. What kind of thing have you find with your detector and how much did it cost you?
I'm still looking for the bolivian coin, as I said before, it could cost me at least 2 or 3 euros. And I already accepted the new coin you checked.
Ok, I save that siver 5 cent, check it on the swap. I'll try to get a better picture of it.
500 pesos are the coin with highest denomination right now. It's worth 70 euro cents, and you can buy a can of coke with it. If you have time, you could search for something good for a similar price, like another of those silver Swedish, those roubles or a few more cheap coins. Or something you already have, offer me something.
And don't worry about the 2 and 5 litas, I found someone here who maybe could exchange them to me.

It's a great fun for me, though I gather things you can find in Chile are much more limited than here. Pic related is WWI things I found yesterday in ~4 hours worth of searching in a forest 5km from my home. My detector is a simple Garrett ACE 250, cost me 200 euros, I bought a used one.
Okay, I'll look for something more then. We have time as we're waiting for the bolivian coin anyway :D
Oh, good then!

All right, but if I have to make a suggestion, you said those silver old Litas costed 3 euros, right?
Anyway, I'll leave it to you. If you find something you consider nice for that value, then it'll fine.

I got 1 silver litas for 2 euros, as you can see the reverse is not worn but has that black spot, and obverse is pretty worn, the double Jogaila cross is not visible on the shield. What do you think? I can get a better one, besides, this is 2 euros, not 3 so I would have to give you something else.
No.90

It doesn't look so bad. The 3 Euro are in better shape?
And what kind of coins are worth 1 euro? If you think you can get another nice coin for 1 euro then let's go for that.
Also, do you collect current Euro coins?
No.91
>>90
In a bit better shape, but I have no idea when will I be able to go to a coin market in another city. Hmm well maybe I'll think of something.
Nah, not really interested in Euro coins, but if you need some- let me know, I can start collecting some rare ones like cypriot, maltese and andorran and so.
Anyway, how have you been m8? I'm sorry for my absence, I haven't forgotten our swap, but my job kills all my time :s
No.92

It's more than 3 euros but please have that. The maltese 5 cents are are something between VF and XF I'd say, they are still shiny. 1 zloty is a bit scratched, soft nickel, and german 1 Mark is all around very worn, VG at best, but it has silver for more than 2 euros. Will this do?
No.96

Thank you so much for those coins, they look fantastic. I'm sure it was not easy to get them, so I really appreciate your work. If you tell me how much was it, I'll send you some euro coins to make it fair.
And I'm sorry to be a bother, but I really want to know how hard is to get some UNC Lithuanian Euros there? If you don't mind, I could send 3 Euros for a 1 and 2 UNC Euro coins, plus giving you 2 nice coins to make it kind of equal. Of course, only if you want.
Before I send the package, I'll take a picture with all the coins plus some extras. So tell me when you're ready to put it all together.
And I'm awful guessing conditions, but I could say something between XF and AUNC for Malta.
No.97
Is this all or did I forget anything?
No.98

You see, we had these "euro starter packs" sold here before the introduction of the euro, and they became a popular souvenir, so there are a lot of UNC euro coins, the problem is that the pack contains 11,59 euros, and I'm sure now the pack is much more expensive. But I have two 1 euro and two 2 euro coins that I set aside on the first day euro was introduced, so they are not truly UNC as they passed the hands of a cahier, but something close. If you'd like, I could give you one of each.
No.99

Also it is fair, don't worry, I'm afraid that the quality of some other coins is not that good, so I want to make up for it. Unless of course you could get your hands on those new urugayan cents with south american animals :D

I tried to find at least one of those coins, but I only found the old Uruguayan set. Maybe for another swap, if I ever got them.

Here are my coins.
I didn't take a better picture of the 1916 5 cent silver coin before, so I don't know if you still want it after. It doesn't look really good, so tell me if you still want it.
I also put the 3 Euros there, and the 2 extra coins for the Lithuanian Euros. One is an Argentinian 10 cents 1944, so you can complete the wheat and cow set, and a Cuban 5 cents 1966. I hope you like them.
I think that's all. If you see something missing, just tell me.

Any swap during this time?

I'm pretty busy with my work and also I had a leg injury so I had to stay indoors for some time, so I had to put off coin collecting, but now I'm back on track. No new swaps, people either seem to collect euro coins which I don't or they don't speak english well and I don't trust them :D What about you?

Well, it's good to know you're fine now.
Yeah, a lot of guys collect Euros. The most avid of them already have Lithuanian Euros, probably.Even here you can see some euros collectors.
I'm still buying some cheap stuff I find. A lot of new coins, but I still haven't updated my collection in numista. Maybe this weekend I'll take the time.
And I found something that might be interesting for you.

Oh nice, I buy coins with an exchange in mind too, trying to get some obscure countries like Mongolia. Time for a second swap :D

Have you bought something recently? I've seen one guy selling Nepalese coins here, but for 1,5 euros for one coin.
Have you been offered a swap in numista during this time? I had like 10 offers, but I had to decline everyone because of their coins, or because I haven't updated my collection yet.
Even thought this is my first Uruguayan 10 pesos coin, I think it would be harder for you to find it over there.
