Peatarian diet discussion

Discuss a Peatarian diet ITT

The diet is high-carb, high-protein and low-fat.

>Carbohydrates

Best from fruits, fruit juice and honey. White sugar is a last resort as it's devoid of nutrients. Potatoes are also a great source of carbs, very nutrient-rich.

>Protein

Should be from mostly dairy, some from eggs (2 a day), some from meat (100g cooked weight) and seafood.

>Fat

Should be almost all saturated and monounsaturated, polyunsaturated fat should not exceed 4g per 2000 calories. Don't exceed 35ish% of your diets calories as fat, 80g~ is a good amount.

How can I deal with over eating? I went through a phase of my life where I was a total fool and ate 1 meal a day and ate till I couldn't even breath.

I now find it really hard to know what a normal amount of food is per meal and even per day.

Low Dose Alcohol May Not Be Protective

This paper suggests poor use of statistics and incorrect causal assumptions lead to the small amount of alcohol is heart healthy belief.

Hello, /nutrition/. I just wanted to let you know that I'm the new board owner of >>>/kind/, and I'd appreciate it if you'd take the time to drop in and say hello. It's not really devoted to the discussion of topics pertaining to nutrition, but I think kindness is or should be a virtue valued by all, irrespective of our differences!

Tell us about your day: >>>/kind/346

Eating healthy for cheap

In this day in age where it's cheaper to buy processed garbage, what do you do to stay healthy for cheap?

Mineral Supplementation

Recently started supplementing with pic related, Concentrace.
I take 40 drops a day in water, 20 drops in a cup of water twice a day. It makes the water taste really good. Kind of creamy, almost "milky", reminiscent of the mouth feel of coconut water.

Any opinions on mineral supplements or deficiencies? I'll try to post some research about this later.

How do you avoid fluoride and other toxic shit?
R: 3 / I: 0 / P: 1
What are your thoughts on organic or not? Does it matter? Do you know the dirty dozen?

Hello from /ckfitvegan/

I noticed you anons on the /boards/ board and wanted to extend my good will.

I feel like you anons are like a mix between /x/ and /ck/ which is what I'm trying to achieve a bit on my board as well.

I'm not trying to take over /fit/ or anything, but I like being neighbors to a board like yours and /fit/ and /ck/ etc.

I also hate fluoride in my water and love organic food, although I feel it could be better.

so Peace!

How do you feel about the gigantic witch hunt against "Food Babe"?
Seems like big food astroturfing to me, and idiot redditor-type herd mentality following along accordingly. You know the type, they believe that "science" is some kind of unified and infallible holy institution like some sort of pseudo religion.
I don't agree with a lot of what "Food Babe" says, or think she is any kind of authority on much of anything, but the harsh vilification campaign against her is quite curious indeed. Fat people far and wide are smugly chortling into their doritos bag about how much smarter they are than her. Wonders never cease.

Interestingly, it is Gawker of clickbait fame where the sensationalized smear campaign against her seems to have really originated.

Premature graying

Is there a nutritional reason for hair going gray at a young age? What do you think? How can it be remedied?

Brain foods

I go to a pretty difficult college. When I started eating somewhat healthy, I noticed it became easier to pay attention to my studies. Fruits especially have almost cut my study time in half, and I don't have as much frustration in school.

Does anyone have any 'brain foods' that make them notice a big difference?

Lactose intolerance but I love dairy

I just determined I was lactose intolerant lately and I'm not sure what to do.

I love icecream and cheesecake and macaroni and cheese and lasagna and pizza and all sorts of delicious food. I don't know what to do with my life, or what are any good alternatives?

Shit, nothing can replace cheese, and soymilk/almond milk taste horrid.

Gelatin

I have a cannister of
>pic related
and I was wondering if there are any creative ways to take it. I was just putting it in water and choking it down that way but it was too disgusting so I stopped taking it. Any ideas for ways to get a daily dose?

Alcoholic beverages as a source of estrogens

http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/arh22-3/220.pdf

>Alcoholic beverages contain not only alcohol but also numerous other substances (i.e., con-geners) that may contribute to the beverages’ physiological effects. Plants used to producealcoholic beverages contain estrogenlike substances (i.e., phytoestrogens). Observations that men with alcoholic cirrhosis often show testicular failure and symptoms of feminization have suggested that alcoholic beverages may contain biologically active phytoestrogens as con-geners. Biochemical analyses have identified several phytoestrogens in the congeners of bourbon, beer, and wine. Studies using subjects who produced no estrogen themselves (i.e., rats whose ovaries had been removed and postmenopausal women) demonstrated that phyto-estrogens in alcoholic beverage congeners exerted estrogenlike effects in both animals and humans. Those effects were observed even at moderate drinking levels.

Fucking Seriously

>making a whole new board for every single little topic on /fringe/

Why does this always happen? Why the incessant need to divide and fracture the community when a single thread can handle this? There is already >>>/fit/ as well.

I have seen about 20 new boards spawned because of /fringe/ and of them all only /asatru/ has lasted. Every other one was dead on arrival or died in a week.

Estrogen (and BPA) cause infertility for several generations

http://www.nature.com/srep/2015/150320/srep09303/full/srep09303.html

"…In a study published in the journal Scientific Reports, U.S. Geological Survey researchers found that fish exposed to 17a- ethinylestradiol, also known as EE2, produced offspring that struggled to fertilized eggs, The Washington Post reported. The hormone’s effects in fertility were also found in the grandchildren of the fish originally exposed. EE2 is a major ingredient in oral contraceptives, and up to 68 percent of each dose is released in urine and excrement. Researchers also determined that BPA, which is widely used in plastics, had a similar effect in reducing fertility in fish used for the research. Both EF2 and BPA are endocrine disruptors that interfere with hormones and cause developmental disorders. “These adverse outcomes, if shown in natural populations, could have negative impacts on fish inhabiting contaminated aquatic environments,” visiting USGS scientist Ramji Bhandari of the University of Missouri said in a statement."
