In this day in age where it's cheaper to buy processed garbage, what do you do to stay healthy for cheap?

908901 No.30

One thing eating healthy costs besides money is time. Food prep requires time in the kitchen. In this day and age with modern convenience it's easy to cast that food prep time to the wind for more mindless entertainment. But I find cooking to be relaxing and therapeutic. The process, from start to finish makes you feel like you've accomplished something and built upon your skill. It's so much more satisfying than eating frozen garbage or boxed crap.
… just had to get that out there. I'll make it more related to the OP: you can invest in staple ingredients and make more things from scratch. For instance, mayonnaise can be made at home with higher quality ingredients than any premade mayo. All it takes are eggs, olive oil, vinegar and salt.

Another thing that saves a lot of money is eating less food, which I found was much easier after I started meeting my nutritional needs properly (led to less idle eating and fewer cravings).

Yeah, I've always thought of getting into cooking, but it appears to be more expensive than just buying shit. I'll probably have to wait until I get a job to do some proper cooking.

Guess it's 100% whole wheat ham sandwiches and cereal for a while. Cheap.

>less cravings

Can agree with that, when I started to eat healthy I wouldn't have to eat as much. Under 2,000 calories a day was easily obtainable.

What about vegetables? I don't even know how much they cost compared to fruits. I can't really bring myself to eat them unless they're in the food. I hate vegetables but I love fruits, however I know the health benefits of vegetables. They're just not palatable to me, and even as I've started eating healthy, I've ignored them entirely, which is fairly counter-intuitive.

Butter is very healthy believe it or not. Maybe you can cook vegetables and then load them up with butter and herbs to make them more interesting? Herbs and salt are very healthy.

You could also do something like smother vegetables in tomato sauce or lemon juice to take away the taste even more.

There are lots of different ways of cooking vegetables. Some people who hate vegetables find out that they actually love them when they're baked to a crisp with butter and salt and maybe some balsamic vinegar, for instance brussells sprouts are delicious like this. You can also add some parmesan cheese towards the end of the baking for more flavor.

You can look around at salad dressing recipes until you find one that makes salad irresistible. There are lots! basic oil and vinegar, vinaigrette, caesar, tahini-based, fruity vinaigrette, parmesan creamy dressing, and more.

I think sweet potatoes are a great entry level veggie for you to experiment with. You can cook them in different ways and they are pretty gosh darn delicious.

Not a bad idea. Supermarket near me actually sells some type of dried green beans which I actually like quite a bit. They're rather expensive though (would probably be cheap if I did it myself with something like a 'dehumidifier' or whatever.)

You can even dehydrate veg in the oven at a low temperature. It's a process though; for greenbeans you must blanch them in water first or the texture would be all wrong.

And, if you like that, you might even like these which are less labor intensive and much quicker

Milk and orange juice are pretty cheap
Popcorn is cheap as fuck
Eggs are pretty cheap
You don't need to eat that much meat, so it isn't really that expensive

Really, if you're going to be frugal the only things you should avoid are like uh, seafoods and some luxury items like greek yogurt.

>>31
>I hate vegetables
You don't need to eat vegetables for a healthy diet, you don't even have to touch a single vegetable. Some good tasting vegetables, even for a vegetable hater like me, are potatoes, carrots and spinach. For spicing things up I like to use garlic, onions, capsicum, tomatoes and shallots.

Spinach is extremely nutritious, as are potatoes.

Cooking is fun but you don't even need to cook to eat healthy, the only cooked foods in my diet are a few meats, vegetables and seafoods. Common misconception that fatties have (or really, an excuse) is that WELL UH. I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIMMMMME TO COOK. Yea, right, fuck off. It takes a few minutes to cook a piece of steak and once you into the habit, putting together a stew or a stirfry is extremely easy+fast.

I go to wholefoods or some other place, mostly opportunistic.

things like:

>oats

>beans

>seeds

>peas

>carrots

>lentils

all organic are cheapest. if it costs too much, don't support it.

as for meat, milk, eggs, cheese, butter, etc:

the conditions the animals live in and what they are fed, injected with means bad in and bad out.

also orange juice and juices in general have most of their fiber removed from them, then they are pasteurized and sit in containers.

you end up with some vitamin C, and a huge dose of sugar. just eat oranges.

I stick to raw nuts and seeds, raw cold pressed organic extra virgin olive and coconut oils for fats.

Why not just link to nutritionfacts channel directly instead of posting 100 of his videos?

He just cherrypicks studies to support his vegan agenda…
