I'm considering purchasing a new (to me) car. I want a sexy 80's car. One that I can work on, and that will take a beating. Possibly something FWD, and possibly fun to drive.

What do I choose?

I live in Michigan, and I can try to purchase from out of state in order to avoid rust issues.

Buick Grand National for an evil looking GNX clone?

Cressidas, corollas, grand nationals/montecarlos, Chevy pickups are all good starters and cheap.

Problem with finding an fwd 80s car was that that was when they were starting to introduce the fwd setups so they weren't all too much available and they were straight up unreliable.

If you want a good fwd vehicle any of the 90s v6 fwd sedans are good. Primarily Japanese makes. Parts are cheap and available in all junkyards, decent condition cars can be bought for less than 2000 bucks and 90s vehicles have so much untapped potential.

I would highly recommend a camry or accord. You can easily squeeze out 200-400hp all on stock internals with a decent turbo setup.

Thank you for the information, as I didn't know about when FWD setups were being introduced. I shall look into your list!

1988-1991 Civic
1990-1993 Accord

Anything older will have horrible rust issues, a dwindling aftermarket (and less parts), and won't be as good, despite what the other /o/ will tell you.

Just remember, it'll rust quickly.

Just get a riced up CRX and take off all the rice.

Make it clean and sexy while still making it go fast.

Get an old legacy turbo. Ton of fun, very overbuilt. Works in all conditions.

Friend has an 83 Grand National. He loves it. ( yes I'm responding to a post from 2 years ago)

If I was to get an older car I'm not sure what I'd get. As it looks I'm going to end up someplace cold where it snows so I was thinking a AWD car or a light truck since I don't really need to haul shit.

I also know by the time I'm ready to get another car most of these cars will have been beat to shit and it's not as if I have the money to fix a car up and not have another one.

Always liked how the WRX, but I admit I don't know much about them. Someone told me they have shitty motors, but all I know about the guy who told me that is a VW fanboy.
