What is /o/'s list of approved cars for under $5000 and how does it differ from cuckoldchan's?

0aa876 No.3583

It likely doesn't. That was a good list.

I'd like to include old classics on it as well, but the prices on those are so variable because boomers.

And, I guess, unless you're handy, classics might not be viable.

2a405f No.3584

Well at the rate this board goes it would take us 5 years to come up with a list and it would look identical to 4chan's, so yeah. It does a really good job of segmenting cars and highlighting the best that you can get for 5K in each segment. I might highlight different cars in the top spots, like the 5-series instead of an E class in the luxo segment, but that's just useless nit picking.

It would be interesting to see an Aussie or UK version of it.

1faca3 No.3587

How long ago was the approved list made? It could probably use an update. I'll be down to make one if we reach top 25 boards.

c350c1 No.3591

The most important point is making sure the vehicle you want is mechanically sound. Brand really doesn't fucking matter.

0aa876 No.3593

>>3584

The Aussie version would be fucking nothing, sadly.

Maybe an old Toyota or Honda or Ford but that's it.

Most expensive country in the world forth year running yay.

Is this the guide ? because tbh it is kind of outdated.

Weird. The version I have saved looks like this. Not sure how up to date this one is

ff0055 No.3903

Either way, if you modernized the guide, it would look the same because newer cars that stand the test of time are few and far between, and are getting rarer because of all the electronic shit that breaks and because nothing is sold with a stick shift anymore. Yay for planned obsolescence.

>no northstar Cadillac

>no Volvo 2XXs

>no cheepo '80s wagons

>shit trucks

>no luxobarges or bigblock boat anchors

0/10 I forgot how bad those lists are

156380 No.3919

>>3903

that and all cars today look like ass and are slow as fuck, and the ones that don't are way out of the price range of most people

cd8344 No.3951

>>3916

>>no northstar Cadillac

wrong wheel drive except for the xlr and sts, neither of which you can get for under 5K

>no Volvo 2XXs

in the wagon section

>no cheepo '80s wagons

because why would you get a shitty 80s wagon vs a volvo or a 90s subie

>shit trucks

because there are a lot of great options besides tacoma/f150/f250/silverado/sierra/ranger oh wait there aren't

or are you a moparfag butthurt because they didn't include a "cummins" scrap heap

>luxobarges

ltc and fleetwood

only thing i'd add would maybe be e28 (gl finding one that hasn't been stancefagged to death) and the 900 turbo. used to be you could get an alfa spider for under 5K but not anymore

098082 No.3956

>>3951

>implying first car has to be FR

>no Volvo 262c PRV or any mention of the 164, 140, 122, 544

>implying full-size wagons aren't the best thing ever

>F100, C10, Apache, VW Type 2 truck

>implying those are luxobarges

LTD, MK.V, Eldorado, Thunderbird, DeVille, BMW 7 series, BMW 8 series

the guide does need to be updated, mainly needs more information

for exaple the GM c/k 1500 section should point out that the 96+ vortec trucks and 99+ LS trucks are much better while not costing much more

also too many mercedes and volvos

>>3916

>no northstar Cadillac

i have owned 2 of them, and while i personally love them its not the best car for a first time car owner

its not especially difficult or expensive to repair if you have the tools and knowledge but presents quite a high learning curve if you dont know how to work on cars

>shit trucks

other than the ram 1500 which i see quite commonly for very cheap, and easier to find with a manual than most V8 GMs or fords, there doesn't seem to be much missing

>>3956

most of those are individually good cars, but not for an inexperienced first time buyer who depends on it to drive

I would rather have started driving in a foxbody Thunderbird than a LTC, and most boomers will gladly help you fix your 2nd-7th Gen F100 my dad and my grandad both were waterfalls of advice when it came to early '80s and older cars, as was most of the rest of my extended family.

EFI foxbodies are relatively modern and have a plethora of information about how to work on them and easy parts availability

i actually had a 94 town car as my first car which i learned most of the basic skills on, and then a 96 northstar eldorado, and later a 5.0 foxbody mark VII, at the time i didn't have the money to pay anyone else to fix them whenever i had a problem (frequently) so i had to struggle through it on my own

while most other people probably could work their own problems out if they have the tools and applied themselves or enough money, but most people simply arent going to do that, especially for an inexpensive first car
