Do you think that long running car models are getting better or worse design wise?

How about marketing wise (target market, price point, etc)?

Are there any that you think should be taken out behind the shed already? Any that are particularly worthy of praise?

That's not even the original corvette

You're correct.

I replicated another image and updated the cars.

I think almost everything in pic related has evolved quite well. I can't really say it's better or worse, just different.

The notable exception being the GTO. Fourth generation looks too soft and is overall ugly af.

31a60f No.4159

With all regulations and mandates and shit, they've done an alright job. Still missteps here and there but overall, an alright job.

I'll run through the cars you have there

>Challenger

The most powerful and in your face compared to the other two, it continues tradition well. Also pretty good looking (If a bit fatter now)

>Camaro

The original was meant to challenge the Mustang by being more agile. It's sort-of lost it's way becoming a GT cruiser for the most part but some editions can still bring that point out very well. And the latest one based on the Alpha platform with a Turbo 4 to compeate against Ford is true to original purpose Even it's gotten significantly uglier

>Mustang

The working mans sports car. It still fills this role and some of the special versions are very interesting. The modern ones still achieve this.

>Corvette

America's premier sports car at a bargain. It still does this job even in the face of potent rivals from Europe.

>Challenger

An unpoligetic styling copuled to a large, powerful engine to back up the looks. It still achieves this.

>GTO

It hurts

>>4154

It's the first Stingray technically. And frankly the C1 Corvette is odd-man out in terms of styling. The rest take after the C2

>>4155

Care to post the original if you can?

The last GTO is just a rebadged Holden Monaro. Not a bad car on its own, but people hated for not riding the retraux wave.

The modern challenger isn't just the car that overall looks the best out of these new muscle cars but it's also the one that has managed to stay the most faithful to the original design.

It's just a shame the dash looks like shit and that manual doesn't come standard, otherwise I'd ba all over it

Are you perhaps referring to the old dash pre-2015?

The new dash looks pretty good, I thought. Pretty true to the 1970's version and tidy.

It's styled on the classic interior of the old car.

Kind of makes me a sad camper that they didn't bring back the fake wood trim.

a0ff9a No.4179

>>4167

The only good challenger is the 2015 HELLCAT, and man that thing is nice, although I feel that it is kinda fat and can be slimmed down to make it look more like the original.

ce3c18 No.4184

You could probably stick an audi decal on that wheel and no one would be any wiser

Looks neat though, much nicer than the earlier versions

I was going to say that it's much too vulgar to be an Audi, and then I remembered that pic related is a thing that exists.

The SRT logo on the passenger vent needs to fuck off though.

29ba16 No.4205

Oh and the double big gulp cupholders need to fuck off or at least get a cover ffs. And the chrome accents. And the shitty looking crabon applique. I take that back, it really is much too vulgar to be Audi.

847e58 No.4216

>>4179

If you've configured a Challenger lately online, you'll have found that for one with a V8, leather and a sound system that isn't shit, they're cheaper then the Camaro by a few thousand and ever so slightly cheaper then the new Mustang.

Plus the interior looks miles better then the Camaro.

So maybe that doesn't fulfil your criteria as good, but it's good value for a decently equipped grand tourer.

>>4204

The shape and flow is the same, but the Audi is a mess of lines like the Camaro. At least the Challenger's interior flows neatly and doesn't have a lot going on, even if it looks cheap in fabric seats.

I do like that Audi integrated the map into their gauge area. Pity Dodge can't do that because of all the performance pages and shit they have in theirs.

b913b3 No.4219

>>4216

Both the camaro and mustang are on fairly new platforms, the challenger's architecture was "introduced" over a decade ago but the front suspension from the benz S Class was introduced in 98, while a good chunk of the rest of the car is from the 2002 E Class.

847e58 No.4223

>>4219

>good chunk

The transmissions and suspension were replaced with original ones in 2013.

I'm pretty sure however Jay Leno brings up and debunks the point about shared Mercedes tech on the new car when he interviews the Dodge rep on his web show. So I guess its just a shared firewall and such now.

Regardless, does it matter whose name is on the underpinnings of the platform you're driving? Are you one of those anal people who refer to all Dodges, Chryslers and Jeeps as Fiats?

More importantly, are you going to try and turn this into a discussion about performance now?

b913b3 No.4226

>>4223

Transmission is now a ZF unit, the 8HP, definitely not original or even fiat-sourced. It's a choice unit for a lot of euro makes, it's the bread and butter of VAG, BMW and many more.

Suspension is still the same.

Look, I'm not saying that's bad (it's only a bad thing if you have bad roads), just that it's using a lot of components that have been around for awhile and are shared over many vehicles, and that saves costs, so it's no wonder it's cheaper than newer cars on either bespoke or new platforms. THAT was my point.

Oh and BTW, the bulk of chrysler's lineup is either leftovers from Daimler or modified fiats. All they have left of their own are the jeep wrangler, dodge caravan and ram pickups.

They're shit.

it's all regulations.

pop-up headlights are prohibited because of injuries they caused in vehicle/pedestrian accidents.

there are regulations governing the height of headlights that impact one of a car's most striking features.

mirror placement and safety ratings impact other design features.

my biggest gripe is the A pillar in modern cars (pic related).

>cant see cross traffic if its on impact vector

>more safety

c77630 No.5210

>>5202

Pop ups aren't banned, they're just not used due to "Muh fuel economy" and that it's kinda hard to put them in with the automatic braking system that detects humans 12 miles away, and the crumple zones that ensures the driver dies while the pedestrian lives.

34b8b8 No.5211

>>5210

pop up headlights are effectively banned by pedestrian safety regs (as are many hood ornaments). The advantage of pop up headlights (lower hood while still meeting mandatory light height) has been negated as high hoods and beltlines are mandated anyway.

c77630 No.5220

>>5211

Didn't think that was a thing, must be the burger land-maplenigger divide.

Cars today if they can even be called cars are shit.

Crumple zones are there to make sure the driver survives to buy another car, not to kill them you dumbshit.

>survives to buy another car

Congratulations, you just explained everything wrong with today's car industry unintentionally. They don't give a shit anymore about individual cars, they're just out there to make money. They make the crumple zones unnecessarily weak now so that it's better to buy a whole new vehicle than bother to repair it. Yes, you want the car to absorb most impacts so you don't become a vegetable, but you don't want it to fall to pieces when you accidentally make contact with a bicycle. See pic.

Those are both made in China FYI
