This makes me legitimately angry. I have no idea how people can ask so much money for jap shitboxes. The case is the same for pretty much every remotely sporty jap car.

I just wish I could find any of them for a reasonable price.

One time I was looking at this manual E34 5-series for $1500 that mechanically was in fantastic shape and well maintained but the interior was awful. It was filthy and smelled badly of cigarette smoke, when I looked at the car the owner had the ashtray filled with cigarette butts. There was also bottles and assorted shit covering the floor.

Things aren't as bad as that for Japanese sports cars here in Austalia but they're reaching that level.

Well, I was exaggerating a bit, but it's not that far off. I don't care whether you're talking about a WRX, Evo, Supra (4th gen), MR2, FD RX7, it doesn't matter. People want insane amounts of cash for all of them.

supply and demand, pal.

JDM icons like the AE86, S-chassis, FDs, JZA80s are becoming sought after and prices are reflecting that.

You could say the same about fox m-muh mustang motherfuckas, turd gen camaros, C4 corvettes among other American cars.

My point was people seem to think that because someone else managed to sell their car for X dollars, they can sell their shitbox which has been poorly modded with cheap, no name ebay parts and run hard as hell for the same price. I don't give a shit how you shake it, there's no way I'd pay over $500 for a s13 with no engine or interior, but I see it on CL all the time.

Here's a few 240s that I think are pretty insanely priced, given the condition.

Also, I'm pretty sure the only reason the AE86 is remotely sought after is…. actually I have no idea why. It's a lightweight RWD car, but that's about all it has going for it without heavy modifications. I'm pretty sure a dump truck could outrun a stock AE86.

You underestimate the autism and sheer delusion that your average Initial D fan has. Do you think people buy Delorians because they think they're good cars? Fuck no, they buy them because they want to get attention and admiration from nerds. Same shit applies here, except they also want to be able to pretend they're a drift queen at the same time.

Its not that theyre really sought after. Its those welfare munchies who need a lot of cash and sell the piece of junk to other welfare munchies until it lands in the hands of a woman or some senior who cashes the car at 1000 bucks because the engine has 190000 redlined highway miles and all the stickers are destroying the paint, the stanced wheels and home lowered suspension destroyed all suspension bushings oh anfd lets not forget the fucking check engine light, old as fuck spark plugs, shiny oil, 0.0001:1 antifreeze to water ratio, the fucked up locks, windows, and ignition beacuase it was stolen countless times and the rusted/ebay muffler
