Wow you're a fucking idiot OP. My Chevy Colorado averages 30 highway with the gate dropped and a few bolt ons. Enjoy your slow shitbox that gets less range than a small pick up with literally half a v8 in it.

Highway isn't the same as average you dumb nigger, I average 30 on a <1mi daily commute. I get 36 on the highway no problem with the car full of shit.

Enjoy your slow short bed "truck." I hate getting stuck behind people like you.

Only 25-30mpg out of my 1st gen Nissan Frontier with KA. But that's with a poorly treated drivetrain at 271,000mi. I'm sure it'd be higher if I could start over with a new engine and transmission.

Keep in mind that being a 2004, I don't have a TV in my dash telling me the fuel economy, so I always reset the trip odo when I fill up, not to keep hard, detailed stats, but to have a ballpark figure in mind of how much I put in and how much I get out.

15f7e0 No.5305

>>5294

I know a guy that's been driving a Pete 389 with the MX-13, he seemed to like it a lot, versus the 379/cummins he had before, he said the fuel savings were paying for the new truck.

I thought Cat didn't make highway engines anymore after they rolled out all the SCR/DPF emissions bullshit. Now that those technologies are migrating to off highway engines, I guess Cat can come back to the on-road market?

d6cba0 No.5315

>>5305

One can still get CATs in Glider kits. Granted, the motors aren't new, but the bodies are.

MX-13 has wonderful fuel economy, but that's about the only thing it has going for it, imho. It's not my ideal choice for an engine, but it's not the worst I could have, so I really can't complain much.

head / oil pan gaskets went south this weekend. I am looking to rebuild or replace the engine with a lower mileage one soon. if I rebuild it, I'm going to replace the shitty oem composite head gaskets with felpro mls gaskets.

The odo/pump method is actually the best way to measure it. A lot of the dashboard read outs take instantaneous measurements and give the average of those which can give imprecise values.

>>5283

Does the b2000 really get that good of mileage? I kinda want a small truck, I might look at those

>>5400

a5aa59 No.5416

>>5415

I'd raise it again for some pics but I'm lazy. I've decided it would be cheaper to get the heads resurfaced / new gaskets than to buy another engine.

friend's brother runs a shop and I will be doing it there. if I had an engine lift I would do it myself at home.

so the list is , new gaskets / machined heads if warped, timing belt / pulley and water pump job, and bolting on my new exhaust that I am scraping together. I have new headers, midpipe and axleback, need front cat, up and downstream o2 sensors and a pipe welded up to remove the 2nd cat. (I bought the exhaust parts before this shit unexpectedly went south.) after that the engine should be fine since I will be making damned sure that I service it on time.

to keep this on subject, I should get 18 MPG in the city and 26 highway after fixing it.

Me again. After a bit of maintenance today at work I took it out for a loop and got 8.5l/100km (27.7 MPG) between filling up this morning, going to work, and then doing a 180~ish KM loop of very mountainous highway and driving it back home (Shell station at the end of the street). The highway loop was done on cruise at 60 mph in 5th, not even touching it for steep grades.

So not only does it beat the EPA rating (25MPG), it does so in much less than ideal terrain. If I set it on cruise along the transcanada highway (very flat) it'd probably beat 30 MPG.

34417b No.5484

Car: 93 Buick Century, 3.3L V6, 3 speed auto

Tank size: 16 gal.

Average MPG: 18.75 between last two fill-ups. (Not bad, considering a few factors: 1. The official combined gas mileage is 19MPG. 2. The car's 22 years old. 3. Lots of very short, stop-and-go trips. 4. I try to drive it like a racecar. 5. I changed the fuel filter during this time, and lost a decent chunk of gas that way.)

Range: 300 miles.

I'll check it a few more times to work out a more accurate average. Then I'll start running MMO in the gas again and see if that actually does anything.

e594c2 No.5518

So, I just got my driving license a few months ago and I know jack shit about fuel efficiency (or cars at all), but recently I started to get worried about it due to a comment a friend of mine made while taking him for a ride around the city.

At some point I commented the car was consuming around 11-12L/100km according to the on-board computer, and he said that amount was crazy high. Indeed, according to the Internet, all second generation Class A Mercedes consume between 5 and 8 litres every 100km. I haven't found data about my specific model (A150, gasoline) but it should be around 6L/100km.

I heard your average American car consumes more or less what my car was consuming in city, and I find it weird since American cars are known for their power and consumption and I try to shift gears as early as possible.

Is there something wrong with my car, is it normal or do I simply need to git gud?

de9d78 No.5621

>>5518

12L/100km is about 19 MPG.

I get an average of 19mpg in my lincoln towncar that has a 4.6L V8, my commute is half city and half country roads.

So yeah you're using way too much fuel. And if you're driving manual and inexperienced, then it's possible you're waiting far too long to shift, and operating at high RPMs all the time. That would definitely make the car thirsty.

You are probably right. This car really wasn't made to accelerate fast so I shouldn't be trying to abuse it into getting high RPM soon to change gears faster.

It probably also has to do with the layout of my city forcing me to use the first gear way too much (semaphores every 50 meters or less), but there is no fucking way such a weak engine can consume that much without me fucking up to some degree.

Thanks for the tip anon. I will try to be softer on the throttle next time I take the car.

Upd8:

Here's the last few fill-ups I have on record. I changed jobs soon after that post, and the new transit is much less stop-and-go, so fuel efficiency has improved somewhat. I haven't gotten back on Marvel Mystery Oil yet. Right now I'm trying to determine if the new Pennzoil PurePlus oil has an effect on gas mileage like they claim it does. I went to PurePlus from Mobil Super 5000 (conventional). Looks like there might be something to it, but I'll reserve final judgement until a few more fill-ups from now.

The car turns 23 this month. I still try to drive it like a racecar.
