I bought a beater '96 E320 for salvage price but it doesn't have the key fob. I get the flashing red/green led on the mirror and would like to avoid dragging the thing over to the dealership to pay $300 for a new key. Anonyone know how to bypass a DAS2 system?

3ad780 No.5287

>>5274

An easy way to bypass it is to use the key to open the door like a normal fucking person.

44129a No.5289

I dont think itll be 300 for the key especially for that age.

Maybe 125 at the most.

Man Its like car manufactures don't want cars to last.

Modern cars have a little key hidden in the fob, and a single lock cylinder on the driver's door. Cars with an electric trunk release will also have a cylinder on the trunk lid.

f0fc8f No.5407

the problem is it won't start without the keyfob…it's Mercedes' theft deterrent. I'd need to get a new fob from the dealer at $300 but the real problem is that if 8 fobs were issued I need a whole new ECU because Benz. There's a way to bypass the whole shit but everyone's hush hush about it on the MB forums

3f527f No.5408

special electronic key/fob immobilizer bullshit is a kike scheme to get YOU to shell out more money when you lose a key and don't actually deter theft.

>not owning an old car with a plain hunk-of-metal key and a real tumbler

>not putting in a secret fuel cutoff switch hidden somewhere if you're that scared of theft

f0fc8f No.5409

yea no shit…

Problem is that the anti theft system is directly linked to the ecu. Ecu wont fire the engine if the anti theft deterent isnt working, malfunctioning or simply isnt detecting the transponder.

Just go to the dealer and get a new key

This thread brings to mind a truck we had yesterday at the shop.

Guy lost the keys to his dodge ram, had it taken to a dodge dealer so that they could cut new keys and program them into the WCM's skim.

Apparently, they were unable to do so, fucked around with it for awhile and eventually told the guy "your ECM is busted".

He got it out of there and had it towed to our place, at which point I went at it with our Autel Maxisys.

Check engine light up?

>check

Immobilizer lamp lights up?

>check

Communication with everything?

>check

Read codes

>Invalid SKIM key

>SKIM key not programmed

Obtain key programming PIN code from chrysler

>Erase all SKIM keys

>Program new SKIM keys

Truck starts and runs fine.

Guy is shocked at Chrysler's incompetence.

>modern cars

Why have a future if it's going to be sloppily coded, run by greedy fuckers and made with the cheapest parts money can buy?

It's the worst of all worlds.

I'd rather take a grumpy carb and letting it idle on a cold day over that shit any day, fuck.

b58bd4 No.6186

Unfortunately we already reached that point. It takes something like 11k to make full option Corvette

You know, instead of installing a fuel cutoff switch, it'd be a fuck of a lot easier to remove the fuel pump fuse.

That's assuming we're talking modern cars that are fuel injected.

Also, I have a 1999 Accord which I need a new key fob for. I just looked it up online, and I found a new one for about $30 USD.

I don't have any experience with Mercedes shit, but I'm guessing you can't do that with them? You have to go to the dealer to get a new key fob?

ccfb93 No.6229

Can't you find a fob on ebay or similar and pair it to your car? I have a W202 and there's a mechanical key to open the doors and trunk, did you get that key or not?

74a97f No.7333

Ok i figured it out. I needed a new PSA pump and the door lock cylinder is broken and doesnt activate the central locking. Trunk cylinder still works though. Just have to lock/unlock via trunk.

Locksmith Here. Pay up.

People come in to the shop I work for all the time "I'll program this key myself" when it's a BMW or a Mercedes. No. No you won't program it yourself.

You can read about it here.

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163-m-class/1245088-everything-you-always-wanted-know-about.html

Pretty much, the key has an encrypted RFID tag in the key. The car has an antenna that picks up the value in the RFID, then the DAS2 module cross checks the value in the key, against the value in it's memory. If the value checks out, you can start the car, if it doesn't, the car won't start.

On non-german cars, they're not trying fuck you till you bleed, so the type of memory they use to store keys is a Semi-non-volatile memory. E.g. you can add keys to it with a Scantool, or with onboard programming procedures. The problem with BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, is they use an EEPROM. The only way to modify a EEPROM, is to flash by doing stuff nobody wants to do.

see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uKEPGnNsDg

and this….

TL;DR You're fucked. Pay up. Don't buy Mercedes if you don't wanna pay a premium.

74a97f No.7355

Okaaay, i guess you mean program a new fob but the mechanical key still locks/unlocks and arms/disarms the immo. 4/10 on kikeshilling your dying trade tho.

>The problem with BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, is they use an EEPROM. The only way to modify a EEPROM, is to flash by doing stuff nobody wants to do.

i dont mind flashing EEPROMs, had to learn to flash/program them when working on C4 Vettes and 3rd gens

b5c55b No.7436

>>7369

Well if you don't mind it, go ahead and do it. Most people don't have the aptitude, or the need to do it.

I don't see a point in doing it tho, You'll still have to find someone to "cut the key" so to speak, then buy all the specialty tools associated with flashing an eeprom for a mercedes.

bad532 No.7439

>>7436

all i needed was a $35 SOFI SP8 EEPROM programmer from ebay and tunercat to do the actual editing which is a great program to work with GM ROMs

http://www.tunercat.com/

all i needed to do to disable VATS protection which requires a special key with a resistor thats more expensive than it should be was change a single digit and now i can use $10 keys cut at walmart, it also helps that there seems to be more info about GM EEPROMs out there, also cant find it now but on thirdgen.org there is a thread with a dump of almost all GM ROMs from the 80s/90s

Yeah. I'm familiar with GM's. Not the ROM's, but their anti-theft systems.

All GM's up to this day besides the Caddilac Caterra, The new Daewoos(Sonic etc) with a transponder system(rare) and the Chevy Cruze have had on board programming.

I suppose the cheapest way to program a key for it, would to buy one of those multi eeprom flashers, and dump the rom.

Then find documentation on what parts the key data is stored in, edit it with a free hex editor, save it, and reflash.

I could see that costing the least. Getting someone to cut a keys for you is going to be the hardest issue. You'll have to pull a doorlock out and have it made from that, and supply the keys that you've flashed into the system.

I googled for a bit, and couldn't find any information.

bad532 No.7465

>>7448

wasnt trying to imply it would be as easy for a mercedes, luckily theres a lot more info out there on GM roms and tunercat actually provides definitions for you

This is in fact the case with the w211
