/o/ Are modern cars at all build for a lifetime of use like their older counterparts?

I'm debating on a 90s vehicle or a 2010+ vehicle, but it seems modern cars aren't built to last, which is ass.

Originally I wanted a 1990 Caprice classic brougham, as my mother had a caprice classic, but I'm afraid of if It'll have enough parts to last, like what am I to do if the tranny breaks?

If I went with a newer car I'd like an SUV or Wagon, I'm a traveling /p/hotographer and I imagine ion my ventures a bit of offroading might be common across America.

Sorry to be a bit everywhere with this, but as far as SUV's/Wagons (New or old) go, does /o/ have any suggestions?

Preferably under 32 grand.

I'm a traveling photographer as it stands via a bike..And I'm in Ohio, for the love of god help.

GM b bodies like the chevy caprice and buick roadmaster are built to last (they were cop cars after all) spare parts (especially mechanical ones) are super common and speed parts (stickshift conversions included) are shared with the corvette.

if it has a gen 1 smallblock in it, it'll last longer than you if you take care of it

How easily are Subaru Brats found over there?

Never even heard of it, or seen it on CL.

So another concern is, what if I get into an accident with a modern car? In Ohio people drive as bad as Russians.

caprice parts are a non-issue to get, also the 700R4/4l60E transmission is so common that you practically trip over them at junkyards

also look for a 5.7 94+ LT1 caprice or even a 5.7 91-94 caprice instead of a pre-91 5.0 "305" caprice, a 93-96 cadillac fleetwood uses the same platform and engine and is also not a bad choice

a 5.3/6.0 vortec GM anything is not a bad choice

a B-body caprice should do pretty well, especially in frontal or rear collisions where body on frame cars excel

Dunno about volvo availability where you live but since you're an american a v70 from 01-07 would be a real safe bet. You wouldn't have to deal with any etm issues like us yuros do and it would give you amazing luggage space for lights, stands and whatever other shite you'd need to cram in the back — while carrying models and mua's.

I'm a photographer myself and so far I'm very pleased with the '01 v70 I bought for ~€2k, gives me about 30-35 mpg. Also today I found an antique table and set of four chairs in the classifieds for cheap, was able to stow everything in the car without renting a trailer or having shit stick out the back and brought it all home in one go, if I had a smaller car it simply wouldn't have been possible.

Stay the fuck away from the 1.8 engined models though and make sure it's not haunted by electrical issues or you won't have a fun time of it. /o/ also creams itself over the 850r and v70r but they're rather sought after and can be pricey

Most 90s cars weren't either, and they've already reached the point of falling apart.

Only if they're cheap, round, bubbly shitheaps with interiors of melted plastic.

If you get anything with real metal on it from that decade, it will fucking last.

80's and early 90's Toyota's were build for quality to beat other companies so their cars were on par with Mercedes.

My 89 camry full luxury package is quite nice.

Ehh yes and no…

I remember my mommy bought a 95 brand new v6 camry xle full options and dealer fitted 5speed.

The suspension setups, just like the rest of the car were designed for ultimate reliability with city driving comfort. Not for corner hugging goodness.
