When the mid-engine corvette it will probably cause boomers to have mild heart attacks.

This will make their cake faced wives panic and make them sell their dank ride and get a volt.

Thus, c8 corvettes will depreciate rapidly not because of quality but because of boomers. Or maybe they just wouldn't drive them at all and keep them in their garage.

Corvette General

d805f7 No.6356

C8? The lifespan of the C7's hardly even started yet! Apart from the C2, every generation of Corvette's lasted at least 7 years. That means we shouldn't expect the C8 until at least 2021 at the earliest.

They're saying they are going to sell them alongside the C7s as special editions (1500 per year). Once the C7s run their course then all corvettes will be mid-engined.

GM was testing a rear engine vehicle, but a lot of people are saying its going to be a Cadillac supercar, sincethey are attempting to raise the prestige of the brand

Thats just the test mule, obviously they're attempting to keep it under wraps

I don't see this happening.

The Corvette has traditionally been something blue collars could afford. A mid engine model would likely be priced well out of reach for most.

A mid engine Corvette at a $50k price point would be insanely awesome, I just don't see it happening.

1a43a6 No.6365

>>6363

It is possible to make an affordable mid engined sports car, see Toyota with the MR2. It doesn't seem so far fetched that a mid engined Corvette would fit at that price point.

The fiero too.

The head corvette engineer said that the C7 chassis is at its limits so it would be logical for the corvette to become mid-engined.

I have my heart set on purchasing a C5 vette, I need some advice on what I should know and expect from the car, and what I should look for when buying

Since they run from 1997 to 2004 is there any year I should look for or avoid?

>>6374

It will be a great day when America begins making mid engine production cars again

Go for the newer looking Z06 design made from 2001 onwards. The earlier model has "Barbie" written all over it. I don't know why, but it just looks considerably cheaper and even girlier than the later C5, especially the convertible variant. May be due to the fact that pre-Z06 models utilised many cost-cutting measures.

The electrical system sucks for them and general rattling bits otherwise it's a great car with an enormous aftermarket and generally cheap parts when compared to it's competitors.

You mean mid engined or are they having another go at the Corvair.

>>6360

It's not entirely impossible. Cadillac is the flagship brand so it should have something special to call it's flagship. Also that's a testing mule And I would kill for something that looked like that with a mid engine.

What is the chance of the next ZR1 being mid-engine?

Like >>6374 said, the camaro platform is already nipping at the heels of the corvettes performance so they need to take it to the next level

The evidence is piling up, it's becoming the worst kept secret in the automotive industry.

Car and Driver leaked the story and they tend to be pretty reputable.

I really hope they stick with pushrods….. if they do they will most likely have the lowest center of gravity

13337b No.6862

A mid-rear Corvette would really only be for marketing at this point. Corvettes have been mid-engined since at least the C5 generation, IIRC. I'm inclined to suspect that it's going to be a Cadillac supercar rather than a Corvette.

C4s were the first MR corvettes, also had a 50/50 weight distribution
