Can we just have a sticky already for car buying advice? There's 4 posts on the front page basically asking "iz dis kar gud?"

There really ought to be a sticky for this because this board is slow as shit anyway, and every new thread asking for car buying advice is pushing another one off the board.

Do it, or don't, but I think it's a good idea, and others will probably agree.

I second this proposal also a car question diy for general car fixmeup. Questions like what oil or sparkplugs to how to replace a transmission

Make a guide on tyres too.

An encyclopedia of popular wheel designs couldn't hurt either.

Might as well steal these guides here from halfchan, although we could always stand to update the first guide. How would you guys change it? What cars would you add/remove?

the first image is a bit dated (as you know) and glazes over the severe reliability issues and atrocious cost cutting of the mercedes from the mid 90s to 2000s

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_E-Class_%28W210%29#Reliability_concerns

>#9: Mercedes-Benz should formally apologize for the W220 and W210. Every customer who purchased a new S-Class or E-Class from those infamously troubled generations should receive a letter in the mail, hand-signed by Dr. Panzer Kampf-Wagen or whoever is running the show nowadays, apologizing for selling them an utter piece of junk. Hundreds of thousands of customers were basically swindled. They thought they were buying a Mercedes-Benz, not a cost-cut half-plastic embarrassment. Make it right. And throw them a little incentive towards the price of a new (and presumably better) Benz, just to make up for the abysmal resale on, say, the 2001 S430.

Figure I'll post this here, until a general is made. Apparently the automatic civics from 1999-2004 have horrible reliability. I'm looking at a 2000 1.6el right now with an auto, is that car also effected by the shitty transmission? I can't seem to find a difinitive answer.

>automatic civics from 1999-2004 have horrible reliability

I have no idea what country you're from, but I know civics ran from 1996-2000, and then from like 2001-2006 or so.

I've never heard anything bad about the auto civics from 1996-2000. I have a 98 which I need to get back on the road but it's got almost 200k miles, and the trans is fine. It's got a few things that need to be done, like an alignment, but it's still a pretty solid car, even though it looks like shit because the previous owner hit every-fucking-thing with it.

I agree with OP. There needs to be a car buying advice sticky already. Maybe as a joke, the name of the board should be changed to "car buying advice" instead of "auto"
