New car due for its first oil change. What brand of full synthetic does /o/ recommend?

I use Royal Purple whenever I can. Despite being gimmicky I've never had problems with it. Amsoil is good too.

Why is it "gimmicky"? I was under impression the purple coloring was due to detergents.

28f9cf No.6928

>>6921

It's just dye.

61e7e4 No.6934

What does the manual say?

3e71b8 No.6941

>>6934

Vague, it just says to use 5W30 - it's a Nissan so I know their shops use that blend shit.

773891 No.6942

I used Mobil1 for a while before I rebuilt my engine, was always happy with it. When I tore down the engine, everything was decently clean (surfaces were stained, but no sludge, grime, or any kind build up), even though it had been pretty badly abused before I got my hands on it. I'd recommend Mobil 1 to anyone, and I still use it in some of my family's cars.

Now that mine is freshly rebuilt and broken in, I'm trying the new Pennzoil PurePlus stuff. I've heard good things about it, and so far I like it. I'm keeping track of my MPGs (or MsPG) to see if it actually improves gas mileage like I've heard. Seems like it does a bit, but it's still too early to say for sure.

Plus one on the Mobil and penzoil. Also amsoil has many good comments on it.

But if you can't afford either go with castrol synthectic.

But it also boils down to the car. What car is it?

3e71b8 No.6946

>>6944

I'm sure Amsoil is good but there's something about their distribution scheme that turns me off.

Ive heard a lot about the Rotella oils, anyone had experience with them or know what they're about?

>>6947

Oh god, at least tell me you got it manual.

773891 No.6974

>>6964

Rotella is diesel oil made by Shell (so Rotella is Pennzoil's brother). Lots of people use it in gas engines too, particularly when 5w40 is required (Rotella T6 Synthetic is 5w40). Whether that's a good idea or not is a question for someone who knows more about the differences between diesel engine oil and gas engine oil.

00fcb8 No.6976

>>6974

Afaik, Rotella has more ZDDP than gasoline engine oil since they've had to reduce the zinc amount in those over the years because of the toxicity and the contamination of cat converters in gasoline cars.

e91ade No.6990

>>6947

Why would you sage your own thread nigger?

>>6974

Major diffrence is that the oil is not made to handle gasoline additives. It'll work in a emergency but will degrade very quickly. Same goes for has oil in diesel.

Also diesel is designed for low rpm usage and the oil film will not cling once you climb above it's operating rpm.

+1, its the only oil that shut up the vanos on my previous E36.

I tried different weights of

>Mobile 1

>Castrol Black Bottle

>Efl Excellium

>Total Racing

RP did it.

10/10 if correct viscosity.

What's your planned OCI?

0fa453 No.7017

>>7015

Around 7k, maybe a little more or less depending on how the oil looks

Are these filters any good?

773891 No.7035

>>7023

Nothing special about them as far as I can tell, especially for the price. Get a Mobil1 EP or a Fram Ultra (literally the only Fram product I would ever put on my car).

Is Red-Line a suitable choice considering that it's one of only true synthetic oils on the market? I'm looking to get the maximum wear protection for my daily driver.

go with MOE BEEL WHAN

MORE BILL WUN

MUH BULL WHUUUUNNNNNN

2fce07 No.7072

I've always pronounced it as Moe Bill Won. No idea if that's how you're supposed to say it or what.

3c83bb No.7074

>>7038

I've used their diff oil and I am very happy with it (reduced clatter). It's a credible brand, I'd go for it.

>>7071

fuck, these tripfags are cancerous.

>>7071

Lol faggot go crash your scion

773891 No.7078

>>7071

What's wrong with them? Cut one open, it's a well-constructed filter. Sure, it's overkill for a regular OCI, but someone who's already considering shelling out for a K&N would be better off in every way by saving a few bucks and getting a better filter for it.

b49622 No.7081

>>6947

Well is this on a lease or did you Buy it?

If on a lease just use whatever's on sale at crapzone. If you bought it penzoil or Mobil one or if you're really cheap get castrol or if you want a good quality oil get royal purple or amsoil.

As for filters since it's a new car I bet the engine is Still braking in and you will be seeing a lot of flakes so don't cheap out on a filter here k+n or Mobil one.
