You have to be really careful about your hand positions because you can't slide your hand around to correct small mistakes of hand placement on the steering wheel or the shifting knob. Only replacing your hand completely will do.
It's really hard but it will also make you a better driver - you'll learn to place your hands very precisely and thus operate your car like a samurai wielding his sword.
Try it out, make sure that the gloves have a lot of grip though, so I advise some with rubber coating on the palm. Ideally those warehouse worker or furniture carrying ones, because they're made for grip.
