I doubt any of you remember but I posted a thread a while back about how I had an S10 that I put a new fuel pump in but it wouldn't start.

I finally figured it out. The ground to the fuel pump was bad. I grounded it to the frame and the fuel pump kicked on, and it runs great. Need to fix a few things still, but actually getting it running feels great.

It basically looks like pic related, except it has a chrome grill and different wheels.

Any simple fixes like this that you guys overlooked because it was just too goddamn obvious?

I thought I would add that I don't have the bed on it right now, so it has less weight in the ass end than I'm not creative enough to come up with something good here, so bear with me

It was fun to drive around a bit just peeling the tires when I'm barely hitting the gas on dry pavement. I'd hate to DD something like that, but it could make for a fun toy without the bed on it.

Too many to list. The best example is probably when I rebuilt my engine because of a horrible noise that turned out to be a bad crankshaft damper. It turned out for the best though because it had a shitload of leaks anyway.

That seems a little more in depth than what I was really going for with this thread. Tearing down an engine wasn't really what I had in mind as an "easy fix that was easy to overlook" but if you want to post a story, I'll read it.

Another one that I have is a Honda I bought. I have two different size oil filter wrenches. The oil filter that was on this car when I went to change the filter was too small even for my small oil filter wrench. I messed with it for a while, then I realized I was just going to be changing the oil filter anyway, so I put a pair of channel locks on it and twisted the fucker loose.

Might not have been pretty, but it worked.

Actually got this some time ago on a GMC Savana box truck.

Crank no start, no fuel pressure, 18 watt test lamp was lighting up in the fuel pump socket. After this episode, I made a "high load" test lamp using a 55W sealed beam headlight.

Well, just replacing the damper would've been the easy fix that I overlooked.

Anyway, shorter story, after the whole rebuild I realized I was still losing coolant. I knew the mating surface on the intake manifold was pitted pretty bad, and I thought that my attempt to seal it up with RTV had failed miserably. After a couple months of debating whether to try it again, I accidentally discovered that I had left a hose clamp loose. Snugged it up and haven't lost an ounce since then. I felt real smart.

>filter wrenches

getcha some filter pliers. I use ones like these almost exclusively, except on cartridge filters.

And when all else fails, get out The Claw.

you probably should have pressure tested the cooling system. I think you can get the kit on ebay for like 30 or 40 bucks.

I like the idea of those filter pliers, but I've changed the oil on some cars where the goddamn filter is in a spot where it's like the manufacturer almost doesn't want you to change it. Those would work well on a lot of cars, though.
