Protip: When you get a car, make sure there's oil in the transmission.

Anyway, does anyone know if it's possible to get replacement gears? "Rebuild kits" aren't helpful here, and I'd rather not shell out for a new unit (even if I could find one).

Well first of all what fucking car and what kind of fucking transmission.

There should be a transmission shop near you who can source gears.

94 Geo Metro with a 5 speed manual.

Thanks, I know some people who know some people at a trans shop. I'll see if I can't do something with that when I get the chance.

dude the geos were all rebranded cars. The geo is literally a fucking captain planet branded toyota corolla.

Just go to any junkyard and get a used tranny for less than 200 bucks.

>make sure there's oil in the transmission

Well, from what I understand, on some newer cars, the motherfucking transmissions don't even have a goddamn dipstick.

>Oh, your transmission is leaking fluid? Well we're just gonna charge you $5000 for a new one since we accidentally the dipstick.

I don't know who thought a sealed transmission was a good idea, unless they are deliberately trying to make cars disposable so people who know nothing about fixing cars will just go out and spend more money on a new one when their disposable shitbox falls apart.

New cars are disposable. Nobody but motorsports rebuild engines. Just swap and drop baby.

Hey at least rebuild kits are pretty cheap

Lack of a transmission dipstick isn't like lack of an engine oil dipstick.

Most cars that don't have a trans dipstick instead have a way of filling them that while requiring a special method or device, is "fool proof".

The conventional way of filling a no-dipstick transmission is from the bottom, where the drain plug and fill plug are coaxial, and you basically "fill them up until they overflow" and you're done.

It's more trouble, but you can't fuck it up.
