I would like to learn and get a manual car. Any tips on it? Nobody I know owns a manual car so I can't learn on a friends car. I'd be scared to test drive someones car without really knowing what I'm doing since I've only drove stick in video games or in an arcade The big downside is that I live in lower NY and the traffic is a real pain in the ass.

Realistically 'd be looking for something like a older WRX that can put a little work into.

I was told that buying a used one might be hard to find that didn't have the shit kicked out of it.

you're gonna need to make friends with someone that has a manual shitbox plain and simple.

Check your area facebook page groups or reddit related to cars and axe someone if they would be down to teach you, im sure there would be some literal faggots who would be more than happy ya'mean?

it wont take long and once you understand it, its like riding a bike my nigga

you could also just ask the seller if they can teach you. There's a good chance that that a wrx owner would be down to do it.

>traffic

You could just get one with a manual mode. I have one of each and it's almost as much fun. Not having to worry about traffic is a decent trade. But if you really want to learn, and you're ever near western MA, and can afford to replace a clutch I'd offer to teach you in my V6 Mustang once she's out of storage in a few weeks.

Why not just go for some driving lessons? Way cheaper way to learn how to drive stick than busting the clutch/gearbox of a car you own.

I wish my friend didn't sell is 76 bug. Could have learned in that, but he sold it 3-4 years ago. Maybe I can rent one? Do they rent out cars with sticks?

>>8468

I was in a Mazda 3 with that once. You mean the up/down shiftier right?

>>8471

Also a good idea

my next car is still a few years away since my car now still has some life left in her. Sadly by the time I'm ready most 00-07 wrx will be dead or so beat up I'll be forced to get a newer one or just get a whole other car.

Learning manual is no big deal, you should be able to learn in an afternoon in an empty parkinglot if you're not pants on head retarded.

>>8468

Manual mode a shit. No third pedal no deal.

I understand how to do it, but I've never done it.

Everyone I know who has tried to learn has been capable of driving on non-highways within the same day. All it really requires is a friend with a MT car who is willing to let you learn on it and the basic desire to make it happen. While it does wear the clutch some, especially if you have a tendency to ride the shit out of it, you won't be doing serious damage to the car.

I'll never get over my friend selling his VW bug before I could learn stick in it. Knowing full well I wanted to learn.

I just hope I like driving and being in a WRX as much as I think I will. I've liked them since I was in middle school.

Its no biggie, just be mindful that each car will have different engine and shifting characteristics. Its up to you to not freak out and find the "biting point" of the car. you're in

t. Six-speed driver.

>>8506

You will. There's something about finally owning a dream car. Although, I should warn you, that need to check the Hot Wheels section for them only gets worse.

>>8510

This. Between my family and I we have 3 different manuals and every time I switch I almost have to relearn for a few minutes. Just picked up a 4th one actually, looking forward to trying it.

I have a bone stock 2005 STi (best model year coming through) as my DD and it's bretty good. You will get used to the power but that is the way it is with any car no matter how powerful it is. It still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Not sure if I'll go new or used when the time comes. I've been told Rally cars used tend to be worn in. I like how the new one looks, but almost every year of it I like. The WRX and the Mustanf are two cars I just seem to like no matter the year.
