Well, yes and no, I guess. No the rituals themselves do absolutely nothing. You need to already know the basics of magickal practice before rituals have a point. You need to be able to "cast spells" first, and rituals help you achieve whatever it is you're wanting to do.
Rituals are tools. Preforming a ritual with no prior magickal experience is a bit like giving a hammer to a man with no hands to hold it.
