Not really, the truth is that 8chan has been growing more and more unstable over the past few months. And there's only so many quick fixes copypaste can do, before the entire software just needed to be replaced.

There's no conspiracy here, though i will admit that these things could have been communicated better.

The problems with the site are

1) Jim's shitty ass 2ch hardware. It can't handle the IO load of vichan or the CPU load of Next.

2) The site's owner is a cripple and dependent on donations to survive: which means that donations go to his living expenses in addition to the site's exorbitant hosting and bandwidth expenses.

In addition, HotWheels has stated multiple times that giving people the feature of multiple board searching (searching for something over multiple or all boards which has apparently been asked for multiple times) would require moving to one post table (to keep it computationally achievable) which would require rewriting every database access in vichan.

This is a very common software problem called Old Woman Hip Syndrome (OWHS). Many people don't know this but software code degrades just like geriatric bones. Alas, time doesn't heal all wounds.
