So I enabled country flags on my board to show where the spammers are originating from. This revealed that they have been using proxies from around the globe.

Now, the problem I'm having is that they are posting from "anonymous proxies", indicated by white flags with question marks in them.

These are definitely NOT Tor posts as I don't have Tor imageposting toggled.

Could someone explain how they are hiding the countries their proxies are registered in?

When I post from Venezuala (or some other countries) on my VPN I sometimes show up on flag boards as unidentified proxy. An IP check can ID me and my country, no fuckery's going on on my end. I have the following theories:

- Some shit is broken with the flags

- The system 8ch uses for the flags has lists of IPs or IP ranges owned and used solely for or by VPN companies or proxy providers

The second seems more likely, but I don't know if it's a standard thing they use or if it was coded for 8ch and is updated with their knowledge of VPNs. If this is the case I'd be sort of disappointed, but it's not identity revealing so don't much care either way.

Anyways, barring errors it's probably VPN/proxy users. Why it can't just show the country and also indicate it's a proxy (or just not bother indicating), I wouldn't know.

This could be. What's strange is that for the first week or so after I turned the flags on, the spammers flags were showing from various countries like Greece, Vietnam, US. Only in the past couple of days did the anonymous flags start appearing. But, it's the same spammers because the posts are similar. And they're spamming manually because I require captcha for all posts and a high character minimum for OPs.

I use a VPN myself and the regular country flag comes up in my posts, so I don't get it.
