ef1990 No.45284

Greetings Nunu, et. al.

BV from one of the smaller boards here. The front page index refuses to update, and has been stuck in this state for a good eight hours or so, at least. I've tried forcing some activity from the mod.php page, no joy. While the index rebuilds when viewed from mod.php, the user facing side does nothing.

We're dead in the water, captain.

Look, I understand the background. I've been following the situation here, Fred's announcements, the development board with Josh's running commentary, etc. I'm not looking for special consideration or treatment, all the boards are pretty much in the same boat.

I'm not entirely happy with the current functionality of Next, but it's certainly reached a usable state. If it was not for your plan to move all the legacy board data over, and thus destroying the state of the test/beta boards, I'd be pushing for our board's user base to move and abandon the old board immediately.

I just want to add my voice to those pushing to adopt Next sooner. As soon as possible, now even. We can work with the few shortcomings that remain in the new engine.

So, not really a complaint – more of a bit of a plea. Thanks for all you've done and are doing on the admin side, and here's to hoping for an early Christmas, guys.

Josh said we will be migrating within the next 48 hours if everything goes according to plan. He said that yesterday, so things are probably already in motion to get this rolling.

>We are nearing launch.

Was too busy trying to do BV chores this morning to check the status. I just noticed the quoted announcement from Josh.

I'm all for it. As said, here's hoping for an early Christmas for 8chan.

WHOA DUDE THAT REMINDS ME OF WHEN JOSH SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT HOW IT WOULD LAUNCH NOV. 1

AND THEN WHEN HE SAID IT WOULD HAPPEN AT THE START OF DECEMBER

I'M SURE THIS TIME HE'S TELLING THE TRUTH THOUGH, MAKE SURE TO DONATE TO INFINITY NEXT

>I'M SURE THIS TIME HE'S TELLING THE TRUTH THOUGH

Well if you go to the beta site you can confirm for yourself that it is as close to ready to launch as it is going to get before this site starts losing users due to the constant posting errors and frozen front pages. So yeah, Josh is obviously telling the truth, but none of this matters to your agenda. :^)

For a moment there I thought you might be butthurt, but then I noticed you're dorito face :^)

If I was mad I'd just post in all caps like the guy I responded to. I simply pointed out what was probably obvious. To derive butthurt from my post even without the smiley would be a huge leap in logic. But I'm glad the smiley helped, since it seems you may be a bit slow. Here is a star ★ to reward you for your effort in diagnosing the situation and correctly determining there was no butthurt in my post. wew lad

I'd be shocked if we see Infinity Next in 2015

Well naturally, we're all 8gaggers here after all.

Have you considered going back to SA to be triggered about your hypocritical attention-whoring there instead?

All across the internet, it is known far and wide that goons can dish it out but cannot take it, and are rapidly losing their ability to efficaciously dish it out due to their metastasizing special snowflake complexes. All of your trumped-up objections to 8chan, all of your feeble and half-baked attempts to SHUT IT DOWN, all of this springs from the one sin of 8chan users:

They have opinions as varied and often shitty and unrealistic as yours, and theirs are different than the official ones you accept, and they disagree with you without apologizing first or caring about your perceived seniority and the vast stores of wisdom you must secretly all have to act so dumb all the time.

8chan isn't a deferential colony of SA, and all of those years and years of spamming tranny and beta threads across /b/ didn't achieve the desired unilateral effect you were sure it would, and…let's be honest…that triggers you. That triggers you so hard you shouldn't go back to Tumblr, you should go back to myspace.

Just how long do you think a ddos lasts m8?

0df930 No.45322

Eh.

Josh is head and shoulders above all the halfassed lame development teams I've had to deal with in just the last year alone. For a one man coding gig he's delivering a superior product in record time.

As for all the weirdness and instability, that's just a right and proper part of the chan experience. And speaking of buggery, I'm trying to ride shotgun on a power mad BO who's savoring the idea she could send some terroristic ransom demands to another BO who's board she misinherited due to the recent migration attempt glitches.

Seriously, you lot missed a way big opportunity at some shenanigans while hanging around here with all your capslock kvetching.

Anyways, enough with all this touchy feelly happystuffs. It's time to get back to some proper chan posting, Nunu bomb threats, etc., etc.

Happy Holidays!

this

Josh is a pretty cool dude in general. I don't know why everyone has such a problem with him, he's the most likable 8ch staff member by far.

8d8f58 No.45325

>>45324

Agreed. I haven't talked to him much besides reporting bugs in the beta if I find them, but he responds quickly and fixes things in a reasonable amount of time. I've seen him go off on people, but those people were retards. The arguments are mostly:

>muh default css

>muh outdated furfag browser

>muh text only terminal autist browser

Realistically Josh can't please everyone especially when Josh doesn't have the final decision on everything and has time constraints. If enough users on /tech/ think Pale Moon support is important they can make the required patches and submit them to Josh/hotwheels at some point. Same with terminal autism browsers. Default css is mostly just whining for the sake of whining at this point as it is so unimportant. There are already a few themes that make infinity next look almost exactly like 8chan they just aren't default on the beta site.

ecbe2f No.45330

How many users do you think 8chan as a whole has lost due to all the recent problems? I for one have been browsing less and less because of this frozen front page shit.

ebc3d5 No.45333

>>45330

The most quoted statistic is about fifty percent.

Anyone who has been around long enough and partaken of various image boards has seen it all before. Instability is fundamental to chan life, and 8chan is not exceptional in that regard. There's a vocal crew running about who present this as some zero sum business venture. That may have been true way back when it was 2/4 chan as the only options. Today, and to use a related marketing term, all of our "customers" are promiscuous. We're all still out there, somewhere, cooling our memes in anticipation of Next's launch.

The real problem is not how many we've lost', it's how many will stay lost''. I think about two thirds will return a week after Next is fully up. I also think I'm something of a pessimist here, and wouldn't be surprised if we get a rebound plus an expansion from curiosity seekers.

There is a danger dependent on how long 8chan remains in this state. Based off of previous experience of similar situations found on other chans, I'd say this would have to go on for another full month before permanent damage is done. That's long enough for people to drop anchor, assimilate into a new board in another location, and stop looking back.

Even then 8chan won't dissipate into the 404 void that failed chans go. It will just make for a long year of creative recovery and recreation.

From the /operate/ thread:

>Migration failed.

https://ghostbin.com/paste/qt2ww

>Basically, Josh never actually tested his code against a production-sized dataset ever.

>This is pretty much a junior developer straight out of college mistake, but I guess you get what you pay for?

HE DIDN'T TEST IT BEFORE DEPLOYING INTO PRODUCTION THE ABSOLUTE MADMAN

Jesus javascriptfucking christ even the outsourced offshore indians my employer hires know how to do the proper SDLC. No wonder this shiteater got fired from his job in Australia and moved to e-begging. Holy shit what a joke!
