They do co-operate with Law Enforcement and won't disclose the exact number of NSLs - and they do obey to Pen register/Trap and trace orders; this, coupled with a supposedly lack of TLS on the second segment of the connection, could allow for complete wiretap (realtime content + IP address) without any necessary co-operation nor involvement from NT Technologies.
On the other side, two TLS conns would give the two canaries some credibility (well.. "some" credibility).
