I use this in my CSS

.ad-banner, div.thumbnail, footer, #\38 ch-bottom, .hide-thread-link, .announcement {

height: 0px!important;

display: none!important;

}

It removes more than juat the ads. It'll also remove the admin's announcements, and the junk text about gag orders.
