I think people play on PC at this point, it used to be really active on PS3 in November when the guide was written. If you're still wanting to play with WAT1, 90% of the regulars moved to PC and the ones that didn't are either not playing the game anymore or still on PS3.

There are many ways to get around this. The first is to persevere. Some of the tests I took around 50 times before I finally got gold or even silver. In all games you should always opt for Manual as you can slow down quicker by grinding gears. There's also a nifty little cheat in GT3 (don't know if it's present in other games) where you can hold down the trigger buttons if you have chosen Automatic to prevent the car from changing gear. Sometimes you gain a couple seconds from doing this.

I don't understand what happened with the new Gran Turismo games.

It seems like with each new platform they change the engine so you can turn less and after the PS1 versions you can't really go sideways

It's like racing trains that you can steer (barely)

What can EA do to make Need for lSpeed a decent franchise again?

IMO The series went to shit after Carbon, with Shift and Hot Pursuit 2010 being slightly better than garbage like The Run and Most Wanted 2012.

Yeah, they have made some terrible designs over the years but even their worst modification is better than the shit EA designed. In my idea, you could also choose to get new parts from tuner brands such as Gemballa or Koenig. My point is it all exists in reality, so the parts actually function aerodynamically and don't look like crap.

Hell no. I loved the later Midnight Club games.

Hell, Midnight Club LA with better AI would have been an ideal street racing game. And maybe a difficulty slider.

Even though it was hard as hell to just STEER in the late game. And I ended up getting the million dollars by selling my entire garage, buying a cheap shitbox to go hand the money in, then buying everything back again for free.

So I got a new graphics card and wanted to play a good looking racing game.

I got this one since it came out in 2014 I thought it would look good, but it looks the exact same as NFS shift from 2009 (and plays the same).

So are there any racing games that actually look good for today?

If you're looking for Graphics only:

Dirt 3, Project Cars, the new GRiD titles, Shift 2.

Not quite sure why you would play those, I'd rather play an enjoyable title than one that looks good.

Problem with GT5 is that a lot of the cars are low poly leftovers from GT4 and earlier, some even from GT2. That and it suffers from a bad case of terrible sound syndrome.

I'd argue that it's way harder to find a game with good sounds than it is to find a game with good graphics. You can have eye candy all you want but if you don't enjoy the roar of the engines then it's not fun opening the engine. I've had points in games where bad sounds turned me off of the title.

Yeah, I've played GT5. Engine sounds are really awful, it's the thing that prevents me from just booting up the game is those noises. I've been into GT Legends and Historic GT for that reason since the engine noises are really nice to listen to.

Problem is that there hasn't even been any very good racing games worth purchasing full retail in years. Even The Crew is 33% off this weekend and that is basically a glorified Test Drive Unlimited 2 with UPlay.

could not recommend anything made by slightly mad studios (nfs shift/shift2/projectcars) their handling model in all of their games is dreadful. it's like every car has insane understeer, then oversteer, and they're all on ice.

-Always be online while only being able to roll with 8 friends at a time
-Have numerous bugs

Then sure go a head. But it's not worth it now and sure as fuck won't be worth it when everyone has left it. Shame as the concept is good, and if it was just a single player game with multiplayer it'd be great.

Nope, it's this little barrel of fun. You could make your own tracks, and you could choose how many cars you wanted to race against, from just one to a full field. My only complaints were the crappy music, the engine noise which sounded like a UFO and how you didn't seem to be in control of your car at some points.

Hell yeah I remember Formula One :D It's a damn shame they never made a 1996 Season update. They were working on it but that game became F1 97.

Interesting, I wasn't aware there was an update in development. I forget what it was called, but there was a game on saturn that had ukyo katayama as a playable driver and I recall finding that funny, because of the 5 or so playable drivers, why him? (probably because he's japanese and it's a japanese produced game, but it struck me funny nonetheless).
