How do you guys organize your pdfs folder? There are some topics such as politics, philosophy and history that overlap so much I just don't know how to organize them. What do you guys do?

I recommend Calibre for a visual library http://calibre-ebook.com/

But I also keep my ebook folder organized. I add # before a subfolder of a general subject under which I add books. Such as:

#History -> #Greece -> Book by Author (2015) -> Book by Author (2015).pdf

……………..#World War 2 -> Book by Author (2011) -> Book by Author (2011).pdf

#Mythology -> Book 1 by Author (2015) -> Book 1 by Author (2015.pdf

I have many, many hard drives.

They are in rough chronological order.

Most of them don't use RAID, so they fail every so often and I lose gigabytes of books I hoard but don't have time to read.

Data hoarding is an addiction.

i'm lazy so i have one big folder "research" with subfolders by topic, it's just stupid tho i'll have to move it all to calibre some day, but most of it are really scientific publications from libgen.in / sci-hub.org not books

also i use full text search, really useful, under linux there is recoll dunno about other systems

I tried to organize mine. But there was too much intersection and multiple categories for what I read that I just gave up.

Do it little by little, every day and you'll find yourself with a tidy library. Also, make a copy of your library now and compared it to the new one when you're finished.

I only have around 350 books organized in total. This is roughly how I've gotten them laid out.

>Even though I've split Engineering and Health from Science, I still think I'm going to need to further subcategorize it into fields of study at some point.

>Religion, Philosophy & Politics as well will eventually need subcategories into pol natsoc, soviet leftypol, allahu ackbars, le happy judaism, christianity, and general assortment.

>"Engineering Unsorted" exists because I downloaded some books in a package and I didn't get around to finishing sifting through it all.

In terms of deciding what goes where I simply decide which field the book is primarily the most relevant to. Perhaps I should have a "tags" system, but this method is working for me for now.

A folder for each author (last, first) and an assorted folder for general knowledge. It's manageable now, but I'll probably migrate to Calibre and start tagging things in the future.
