I have a copy of this book, and have been interested in making an ebook version seeing as I couldn't find one. I'll look into converting it for you, anon. It's a wonderful read.

Probably stupid question, but do I just slice the pages apart and scan, or can I take it down to a copy store and have them do it?

Tried a quick scan today, didn't end up too well, I'll look try to debind the book in the next couple days here.

was planning on uploading a test to see if the quality was okay for the first 50 pages or so, but even that, which is only 1/6th of the book, I was able to get down to no less than 18mb as a PDF. I've tried my luck with google over the last few hours but not sure what I'm doing wrong with converting, there are much longer books on here that are much smaller, if anyone has any advice I can finish this book finally.

scratch that, I've tried something else that worked a bit better, looks like final book size will be somewhere around 1mb now.

Here's a sample (the first 90 pages). This is the first time I've done this, so before I dump an entire night into the full 200 something pages, if you had any feedback it will save me some time down the road if I need to change something major.

notes:

I know it feels tight, I can fix the cropping for the final version

If the lines of text overlapping a little bit is really annoying, I can fix that too (I think)

I know the graph in the first section is a little bit messed up, I'll fix it

The images already looked like that

If someone is reading this and is more experienced than me, and wants to have a go at it, I can just upload the raw scans of the pages somewhere, too, but I'll try to squeeze out at least a functional, usable version of the book in the meantime.

I noticed the pages are a little more fucked in that version than I thought, this one is a little better. Still same request for feedback

had more time today than I thought I would, so here's a working complete copy, I know the timeline is fucked, I'll work on the details a little more tomorrow hopefully, but everything should be here. Should I include front and back cover scans?

I just got it off of

http://8ch.net/urbex/res/698.html

and came to give the good news.

If you're the same Anon who posted this there, thank you so much, I can't wait to read this.

If you're not, thank you for your efforts regardless.

>If someone is reading this and is more experienced than me

This is one thing I've always found lacking on this board, there is ample resources for downloading pdfs but nothing for making them. There's no recommended software or tutorials.

For a board that calls itself /pdfs/ it's a major part that's missing. Some people will come here just for help with PDF making or editing and notice that it's just an archiving and link sharing board.

To be fair, in my case it wasn't especially easy, although I did find a few things, such as set ups like this:

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/02/diy-book-scanning-is-easier-than-you-think/

Combined with a decent camera, and decent OCR software, you could conceivably do much better. Hell, I bet even an iphone on a mount and a page-turner like that could have cut the time in half. Also, in this case I just got lucky that someone was already requesting the niche hobby book that I happened to own. I'd bet in the case of other niche books, the demand isn't readily available enough to warrant the several hours of work it takes to scan a book, unless you're feeling super altruistic, as well as patient.
