Everything related to the controllers of governments using their influence to affect culture and society: drug culture, music, eugenics.

Starting off with this book, the reason I created this thread:
>Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & the Dark Heart of the Hippie Dream by David McGowan & Nick Bryant (2014)

013e29 No.997

>>996
A synopsis of the book from Amazon:
>Laurel Canyon in the 1960s and early 1970s was a magical place where a dizzying array of musical artists congregated to create much of the music that provided the soundtrack to those turbulent times. Members of bands like the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, the Monkees, the Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, the Turtles, the Eagles, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Steppenwolf, Captain Beefheart, CSN, Three Dog Night, Alice Cooper, the Doors, and Love with Arthur Lee, along with such singer/songwriters as Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, James Taylor, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Judi Sill and David Blue, lived together and jammed together in the bucolic community nestled in the Hollywood Hills.

>But there was a dark side to that scene as well.

>Many didn't make it out alive, and many of those deaths remain shrouded in mystery to this day. Far more integrated into the scene than most would care to admit was a guy by the name of Charles Manson, along with his murderous entourage. Also floating about the periphery were various political operatives, up-and-coming politicians, and intelligence personnel - the same sort of people who just happened to give birth to many of the rock stars populating the canyon. And all of the canyon's colorful characters - rock stars, hippies, murderers, and politicos - happily coexisted alongside a covert military installation.

>Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon is the very strange, but nevertheless true story of the dark underbelly of a hippie utopia.

I read this book a while back and while it goes into a lot of depth as for the numerous and creepy connections amongst hollywood/rock and roll stars, it doesn't really culminate into a coherent conclusion. Information's still pretty interesting/neat though.

I'm no expert on the scene in general but I have read extensively about The Doors so I went straight to that 'chapter', actually 4 pages.

It made several misleading claims.

>1) Jim Morrison never played an instrument

False he played harmonica and its on some of the released recordings.

>2) the doors had no previous music experience.

False

Ray had played extensively in his brothers band Rick and the Ravens.

Jim played in Rick and the Ravens once to cover a band member quitting before a gig.

John and Robby had been in a band called The Psychedelic Rangers and had even recorded a demo.

>3) The band formed mysteriously, no obvious connections between members.

False

Jim and Ray met in Film school in UCLA.

Robby and John were in a band together, Psychedelic Rangers.

Ray was in Transcendental Meditation group with Robby.

Sure Jim's father was a senior military man and military connections were common of many counter culture figures, certainly spooky. But if you are going to create a conspiracy theory please don't change the fact to fit/help the story.

Jimi Hendrix was buying tone pedals and electronics for a former navy electronics engineer. Conspiracy?

>create a conspiracy theory

History isn't a conspiracy theory.

Damn. I'll consider.

Rest in peace, David McGowan.

But as >>2138 pointed out extensively, what's in that book is not history but horseshit. I've heard about these types of theories from others before and my question is, why doesn't the synopsis mention the Grateful Dead or Robert Hunter. They were involved in the early acid tests and IIRC Jerry Garcia's wife was actually a synthetic chemist. Look into a guy named Owsley Stanley as well, the "LSD Millionaire." Forget the Doors the connection to deep state shit is stronger with the deadheads. In the end, thosands of potential rebels pacified by ridiculous acid lyrics like in China Cat Sunflower. I love the Dead anyway.

Also, it does mention Frank Zappa. What is his government connection?

I read an interview in Hustler with him from the mid-90s and he is one of the most politically aware, anti-fed/centralized government artists I've ever heard. He was close to anarchic, but very well-spoken and rational. I found I agreed with almost everything he said. Very thoughtful guy, stayed away from all the drugs too.
