So what's everyone's experience/interest with permaculture, here? What related things are you into?

 No.8

I got into permaculture because my econ teacher in high school was a permy homesteader. I ended up taking a PDC that he taught this past summer.

I'd consider myself a beginner when it comes to technique. This past growing season I sheet-mulched a small section of my backyard and started a food garden, which has yielded good crops of greens, squash and potatoes. Next year I'd like expand to perhaps twice the size of my previous plot and grow more staples.

I have a great deal of interest in the ethics and principles of permaculture, and try to apply them to most every aspect of my life, including cooking, fashion, traditional games and computers.

I'm also well into P2P, which I like to think of as online permaculture.

I lived in an intentional community for a while, where people were practicing various techniques. Besides that I was interested in this sort of thing anyway, but I have very few resources to experiment with.

Anon, what was living in an intentional community like? Did it run fairly smoothly? And could I ask what country it was in?

 No.19

>>18
Well it was like living with anyone. People got annoyed with each other and had cliques. (There were about 50 of us, from infants to elderly people). Plus alot of highly individualistic people, so you get alot of clashing methods of doing things. Despite that stuff it was nice. Most everyone has similar political, spiritual, etc. mindsets, most everyone is willing to compromise and work together, people cook big meals for each other, decide things by voting, practice alot of techniques to prevent violence and intolerance, people understood to give you space if you asked for it, help each other with their children etc.

If you're particular about things that you own getting lost or broken (like tools or bicycles)…don't let people borrow them, hide that kind of stuff.

This was in the U.S.

Where in the us.
Anarchist here.
I'm attracted to permaculture because I see it as an important avenue for maximizing individual autonomy. I want to get involved in projects to bring an easy, sustainable permaculture living to people so they can live their life with more freedom from oppressive institutions.

Well poop. I was starting this dump at /home/ but now I'm unsure about which board is going to be the most prominent when it comes to homesteading.
Any way guess I'll just monitor everything until there is a clear winner.

If you want to ask me questions about the content feel free, but if you want to go into specific depth and explore the finer details of a subject start your own thread.

Feel free to use this as a general dumping ground.

Hi everyone! This board is brand new, so don't be turned off by the lack of posts. I've seen many signs of interest in permaculture on various boards, especially the various anarchy boards and /prep/. Let's collect this interest and start discussions about techniques, principles and ethics. Here's to a long and prosperous life for this board! Cheers.

Your humble mod,

Hey, saw the link to this board on /prep/. I'm the board owner there and I'm considering getting rid of the board soon and just sticking to my original board, >>>/poverty/. So if you'd like to blatantly steal any of /prep/'s content for this board, you're welcome to. And I'd love to link between here and /poverty/ if you're down for that.

There's also /home/ - homesteading. They have 9 unique IPs at the moment, you might want to post over there, the users might be interested.

Anyway I'll try to contribute some posts here soon.

Hey, thanks man. I really appreciate you wanting to see a good, cohesive community form around these ideas on 8chan. If you do choose to abandon /prep/, I'd be happy to take in the frequenters of that board, if you feel inclined to recommend /perma/. Considering the smallish, slowish (but lovable) community that 8chan has, I think it's a good idea to consolidate ideologically similar boards that have small user-bases.

I created this board because there was no board for gardening, but I'd like /perma/ to be a board which welcomes discussion of anything related to the PC ethics and principles, including homesteading, self-sufficiency, disaster preparedness, low-impact lifestyles, etc. A long as it's driven by compassion for living beings and concerned with achieving maximum thermodynamic efficiency, it belongs here.

I'd love to have a good relationship between /perma/ and /poverty/, since they share many of the same ethics and indeed techniques.

Well, it is quite possible to grow plants in the winter, in a greenhouse. But plans for next growing season are quite welcome ITT. Pic related, not mine, though I wish it was.

Made me smile.

I'm not logging yet! I'm hoping to start some shiitakes this winter though. Just have to find some good maple bolts.

Next season: Potatoes, onions, chard, kale, beans, squash, carrots, cucumber and whatever I find at all the gardening fairs in my town. I like to grow whatever I east a lot of (staple foods).
