It's not just gnome and it's not just debian. This cancer is spreading to almost every distro and initd is only one component of systemd. Every ubuntu based OS is already using logind and will be using initd starting with the next LTS release.

Meh. Linux was always developed without any real structure, or standards.

You can port your own branch of the main distro, and not give a damn. It's why a distributed version control system was made.

There are other flaws in the kernel and base binaries that you need to worry about than shitty systemd.

Lennart is a douche and a crybaby that can't take criticism, and while he has used SJW style tricks in the past all this is more driven by his ego, the need to cheat Red Hat into thinking that he is actually working, and Red Hat's desire to get more control over Linux and to further 'standardize' things and to make it harder for alternatives to arise as competition, init script are not used in Linux alone, they exist in all Unix systems, from commercial stuff like AIX and HP-UX to the BSDs.
Besides if they don't add new and convoluted features how can they get people to cough up all the cash for training, certifications and support.

Debian, Fedora, a bunch of their derivatives, Sabayon, Arch and a few others.
Ubuntu will probably adopt systemd too.
As to systemd free distros, or should I say redpiled ones, Slackware, Gentoo, Dragora, Funtoo, CRUX Linux, PCLinuxOS , Vector Linux(can't use systemd because they use a different scheduler, systemd wants cgroups a feature that BFS does not provide.)
Anything else using BFSby default is a good bet too.
