can you use PGP for instant messaging?

77b712 No.58

>>57
OTR is better for IM. Use PGP for email and files transfer, "slow" stuff like that.

ba5c2b No.59

>>58
Care to elaborate on OTR, how to use it, verify it, etc.?

77b712 No.60

>>59
No anon, sorry. Never used secure IMs. (well Tox, if you consider it one)
Consult https://otr.cypherpunks.ca/

With GPG how can I decrypt a .gpg file to an output file, instead of in-terminal?

"gpg -d /path/to/file.gpg -o something.txt"

Isn't doing the trick?

ba5c2b No.62

gpg: WARNING: unsafe enclosing directory ownership on configuration file `/home/niggerhere/.gnupg/gpg.conf'

This is after running

" sudo gpg -u niggerhere -e -r Glenn ~/Desktop/k"

(Some of these names are changed, leave me alone.)

Can I write and encrypt messages through the terminal? What I do now is writing a text file and then encrypting it hrough the terminal, it's not a problem but I want to know if I'm missing something
Also, how do I really import a public key? For know what I do is importing it through the name or the e-mail, never directly copy&pasting the whole key

9df483 No.64

>>63
Disregard my second question, if I am not wrong I just have to write it in a text file, add a gpg extension and use the import command.

ba5c2b No.65

>>64
I did it in a text file without .gpg, but failed to get it by name/ email, can you tell me more about your use with name/ email and keyservers?

9df483 No.66

>>65
Hey sorry dude I'm an idiot, I played with this thing yesterday and today didn't really remember well, I probably never added a public key with a different method than importing the public key text file

ba5c2b No.67

Terrible question, but...

I can now encrypt and decrypt TEXT FILES okay, as well as other types of "Files", but how do I encrypt and decrypt direct chunks of text so that I can paste those ASCII/ Base64 chunks?

ba5c2b No.68

>>67
User>> gpg -r UserHere
gpg: Go ahead and type your message ...
Hello, User... This is a test, okay? Okay.
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
gpg: processing message failed: eof

^^ See? It won't work?

77b712 No.69

See >>>/tech/161467
You want to use the -e (--encrypt) when encrypting

"gpg -e -r UserHere" ^^ Yielded that

Yeah, about that...
If you want it in ASCII, add also -a. (--armor)

Holy son of testicles.

Thank you so much.

Yes, as long as you have the key.

gpg: Signature made Sat May 16 19:35:03 2015 EEST using RSA key ID BDE1C907
gpg: Good signature from "Rin <user@8chan.co>"

Forgot to answer the question itself. I find it easiest to copy the text to a file/terminal and verify that with gnupg.

Yes you can, there are PGP plugins for most xmpp/multiprotocol clients like pidgin, there is also an Foss app for android called conversations, you can find it on f-droid, it supports pgp encryption via OpenKeychain
