playpen? now that is a name i havent heard in a long time. but the numbers are astounding. around 300k unique visitors at its peak? people always thought that paedophilia is an isolated case, personal abnormality, a mental disease. looking at that numbers, it is safe to assume that our current understanding about paedophilia is extremely limited, or probably biased. with a number that large, comparing to the number of people who have access to the Internet, most probably there are more pedophiles out there than you could ever imagine. they can be anyone; your family members, friends, school teachers, social workers, even politicians. or you may even have your own pedo demon waiting to be awakened deep inside your personality (or probably have been awakened, thats why you are here, maybe). and all that is a contemporary statistics. what about in the past? post-war european countries are known to have legal child porn industry until around 70s. and films depicting nude children were still being produced until late 80s. child marriage is common and widespread since the dawn of civilization until 90s. some backwater countries still allowed such practices. religious practices, including Christianity, never banned marriages with 'children' below the age of 18, the Bible says that you can marry a woman once they have come of age, which is around 12-14. questions about child sexualities and age of consent started as recently as 40s. these makes me wonder; is paedophilia truly wrong? or is it a natural aspect of life that human is trying to suppress for whatever reason? i guess we are a weird species. no wonder aliens didnt want to establish contact with us yet.
