German Idealism > all philosophical metaphysics. If you want shit that blows McKenna's psychedelic metaphysics, read the mystical traditions like Kabbalah, Suffism, Hermeticism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. They're at least good inspiration for complicated universal stories.

Let's end this meme. I don't care if a philosopher gets some of his ideas from drug use but all McKenna ever did was get high and ramble on about shit that sounded like it made sense when he was high. I've been there, I thought that fire and electricity were 2-dimensional substances and sound was 1-dimensional and it blew me and all my friend's minds. I was on mushrooms and it was bullshit though, stoned ape hypothesis and all of his other garbage is much the same.
