Answer me THIS, /phil/ :

So much of the Internet seems to be openly hostile to christianity and other forms of religion.

Yet on most of the same Internet, anyone who expresses even the most remote opinion of anti-religion or just atheist everyone immediately starts drooling "fedora" and "euphoric" from their keyboards.

Is it just memetardation? Is everyone just so insecure about their spirituality? Or insecure of anyone "acting smart" so they leap to "defend" themselves (Crab Bucket Mentality)?

Answer us why you don't qualify as a retard for asking this question?

Since none of you are smarter than I -- I'd you were, you'd have an answer to my question -- that means you're all retards, too. Such fail.

Yeah, I stopped reading right there.

I have seen what you're talking about, but what are you suppose to do? It's the internet lol

Who is this 'Internet' person you are talking about?

I've never heard of him.

Wow guys, glad to know I'm actually on 4chan right now. Especially you >>2551. You know perfectly well what he means. Instead of bashing his question because you think you would've phrased it better, just connect with his intention in good faith (no pun intended).

OP, it is indeed the Crab Bucket Mentality you mentioned. >>2543 has it. Posters in many online locations swarm into a contrarian beast, and while atheist talking points can often equip this beast with the unkind criticisms it requires, atheism too can be swallowed when it seems to have become safe and dominant.

Going back to >>2543, you can even find contrarian swarms coming from different angles at the same online location, simply at different times. Once the locusts start swarming, those of opposing opinion may shy away from the swarm already gaining steam.

Of course, sometimes you get threads which are epic shitfests, so that happens as well.

I think this is also tied to how easy it is to mock something, making it seem ridiculous without having to refute it's arguments.

It's so much easier to just go "lol fedora m'lady hahah" than to argue with an atheist. You also don't risk loosing your own pride or having to change your worldview in the process.

This kind of behaviour is the cancer that makes most of the Internet a shitty place for rational discussion, especially since people of the same opinion will usually consider the other person "rekt", thus reinforcing their own worldviews, which results in what we call a circlejerk.

because neutralfags are a thing and people seem to believe that sitting on the fence permanently is a valid opinion

Also this, few people in the internet look for rational discussion, most of it is about cheap gratification. They will use fallacies and ad hominem until the other person stops replying and then feel like they somehow won.

Amateur theo-fag here, technically a deist agnostic. Religion is just one of them things, its akin to talking about your sports team, really depends on what bar you are in.

I find most of them harp on the basic hypocrisy that is inevitable once you get large groups of people going through any given belief system. They mainly bitch about the people, not so much the religion, in my anecdotal experience.

Also most of the internet is who? What sites? We could just be seeing large demographics of people who are rebelling against their parents, or it could simply be the innate desire to call OP a faggot. The internet is a weird place that you just can't throw blanket terms over. A lot of people everywhere get offended if you simply just disagree with them.

In a nutshell, every group has their dumbasses, and people who talk too loudly when they shouldn't. Unfortunately that is what most people see of things they don't belong to.

Are you trying to say that meaning doesn't exist or that there was no meaning in >>2536?

If the former then that's a paradox.

If the latter: how?

Because new atheism is a cult.

When anonymous, most people tend to comment about what they don't like more than what they do like.

ba9578 No.2775

My friend, they aren't against religion or non-religion, they're against vocal extremists of the two groups.

Very few, if any, people are going to be against you praying, believing, and going to church. It does them no harm and is benign in it's intentions.

In the same way, those that argue atheism or agnosticism are inherently evil or what have you, those rare individuals are frowned upon as zealots by mainstream thought.

All you need to do to avoid people attacking your beliefs is to make those beliefs benign, and only bring them up when the topic occasions it, not whenever you can, and most importantly, don't try to tell people their beliefs are wrong and yours are inherently superior. That's how flame wars start.

9ab4b8 No.3180

>>2536

Are you implying it's the same people being hostile in both cases? Because I doubt that's generally the case. The internet is simply a rather vast place.

And spirituality =/= religion

3d5c56 No.3243

Because the internet isn't a hivemind. No matter what you say there are people who will hate it and the people who hate something will be the loudest.
