I'm starting to think I have adhd. I can't read a few pages of most philosophers without my mind wandering into daydreams, see pic. How can I make learning philosophy more interesting?

12c2ad No.2791

>How can I make learning philosophy more interesting?

Stop reading Kant.

18824b No.2793

Are you just starting out or something? Kant is a horrible place to begin, so are Hegel, Heidegger, Derrida, etc.

cc40db No.2794

Take Ritalin

ADHD applies to everything. If it's just philosophy then your problem is reading about shit you have no interest in.

I tell this to anyone who asks me how to get into philosophy: You get answers to what questions you bring. If you have no questions, nothing philosophy says is interesting. If you want to give it a chance, read whatever and see what catches your attention.

I would say try Nietzsche, just 'cause I think his subject matter and stances in summary are appealing and easy for the lay person. He's also good 'cause he goes far deeper than you could have initially anticipated, and has been an influence on a good number of 20th century thinkers and is thus relevant.

He can even...no, he definitely should...powerfully shake your own self-understanding if you try to digest him in full, so that you will start weeping and crying about how horrible life is at the beginning of the evening, then by midnight, have reached a private epiphany wherein you want to dance naked on the street from the joy of realizing just how full life is.

tl;dr, Friedrich is the bard of feels

Hell yeah. I'm still technically a newfag but Nietzsche and James are my favourites thus far. They make me feel warm and happy inside.

Pick one.

start with Nietzsche for sure.

He is a like the most based of them all, the guys health was falling apart left and right and he was so straight edge he would not even drink tea or coffee due to the caffine in it.

Thus Spoke Zarathrusta and Beyond Good and Evil should be ur starting point.

He is all about not making excuses, not joining hive mind groups or ideas, being your own man and going your own way. He has no regard or patience for excuses or anything.

Reading him wil lbenefit you and your problem with adhd

>help! philosophy causes adhd

Philosophy doesn't cause, it IS adhd.

>I'm starting to think

See? You are starting to think instead of slurping and regurgitating talking points of your BigBrother-given Community Organizer.

Bet you can't even remember who exactly is the worst enemy of the working class this week!

did you think i was implying that Nietzsche was the first atheist or something? no my friend, i meant that r/atheisim types look to him as some kind of noble ruler over all of philosophy and believe out of context quotes(assuming they arent falsy attributed quotes) of Nietzsche without question, when they arent busy making shit up like pic related. they use Nietzsche to confirm their own biases, rather than looking to others who question their beliefs.
